• Planetside 2 V6 - VS capped Indar? It's more likely than you think

Ah nice. I hadn't noticed.
Hey, I just started playing this. Can I join one of your guy's groups or something?
TR pulled off a massive 5-region-wide counter attack against the NC in Indar-Connery. Pushing them beyond the Region Rock was something I hadn't seen for a long time.

Oy, if you weren't aware, if you've played PS2 in the past, you may or may not have gotten a free 6 month subscription for PS1. Unfortunately, those subscriptions end on 20th. Since I have pretty heavy doubts that SOE cares at all about making the effort to make PS1 free to play (Like they said they would,) this means that PS1 essentially dies in two days. I wanted to try and organize one last big fight on the 19th, but I'm awful at organizing pretty much anything, so that's probably not going to happen. If you want to hop on to at the very least see what the old game was like, download's on the third page of the "PC Games" tab here: https://www.soe.com/ You can see if you're eligible for the 6 month plan under your account details there, as well.
Since I have pretty heavy doubts that SOE cares at all about making the effort to make PS1 free to play (Like they said they would,)
The 6 free months was a test to see how many of the people begging for it to be F2P would actually play it again and how many were just having a case of rose tinted glasses. Given that there's been a maximum of 6 players every time I've tried logging in the last couple of months, I highly doubt they'll bother doing anything with it.

I think part of the problem is that most people didn't even know about it.
The whole PS1 community and most of the PS2 community knew about it. There were announcements about it from Smedley and Higby over twitter, people were buzzing about it everywhere. If the population doesn't exist as you say, I guess that means the game isn't as great as everyone remembers.
The whole PS1 community and most of the PS2 community knew about it.
Very much doubt that, but I doubt either of us can prove anything in that regard.

Trust me, enough people knew about it. The server was packed after the announcement, but died down pretty quickly.
I played for a couple of hours over three days when they first reactivated everyone but I just couldn't do it. There are plenty of old games that aged well; I play Half Life 1 mods to this day. But Planetside 1 just ain't one of them. Being able to customize my loadout to exactly what I wanted was about the only thing I missed. The laggy movement, stiff shooting, and generally dated mechanics of the game just made it hard to come back. Will still forever hold a place in my heart though especially as the first MMO I ever played. Now hopefully I can build a better computer to play PS2 optimally before it dies...

The only thing I wish PS2 had taken from PS1 is like you said, the customization of your loadouts. Ditch the classes and give us attributes we'd like to spec into, with the customized inventory, please
The only thing I liked when I played PS1 was the base design and capture mechanics, but PS2's base designs are getting much much better.

I'd still like to see it go free, all things considered.
I played for a couple of hours over three days when they first reactivated everyone but I just couldn't do it. PS1 brings a lot of new and interesting things to the table but all of those things are overshadowed by how completely horrible the netcode and general clunky feel of the combat is. PS2 shunned innovation in favor of following the leader, but the general gameplay and modern sensibilities make it addicting enough to overshadow how awful the balance, engine, and free to play model is. A friend and I came to the conclusion that a game with PS2's quicker gunplay and modern sensibilities combined with PS1's sheer depth would be an incredible game, but I guess they didn't want to or didn't have the resources to make that.

The lattice has returned, and more elements from PS1 are set to return as well like more indoor-focused base designs, continent locking and base power, and some new elements as well. The resource harvesting is going to be a great addition. It'll be a while, but eventually PS2 will be as deep (and most likely deeper) as PS1.
It'll be a while, but eventually PS2 will be as deep (and most likely deeper) as PS1.
I don't really mean this in a rude way, but I'll believe it when I see it. Really.
Really hoping there will be a few more optimization patches, especially for CPU. The FPS counter seems to say that it's my CPU is what is struggling. Really enjoying the game now that I can play mainly at 40+ FPS.
They said there will be. I can't wait. The performance has gone from unplayable in huge fights to playable. Now I wait for perfection
I'm impressed that they even got it to a comfortably playable state on my ole machine. I'm running a five year old graphics card and I don't have a terribly impressive CPU, but I'm still holding steady at around 30fps on low/medium settings. It's not ideal, but I can work with it!
I remember playing the Planetside 1 beta years ago. Oh my god the amount of people in beta... you wouldn't have thought a PC game in those days could have that many people playing it, but it was unbelievable. I logged in for the first time to see a half dozen Galaxies sitting outside the HART building, surrounded by infantry, tanks, and aircraft. People running in every direction. Squad and Outfit leaders yelling into area chat to join them. Transports whizzing off towards the warp gates every minute or so. It was a neverending force of men. I later realized I was at one of 3 HART buildings, and they all looked like this. And then to think that each factions sanctuary would be just like this... The fights were absolutely colossal. Tanks moving down roads in columns supported by infantry driving right into the enemy base. People were starting to figure out how to use mines to destroy/delay enemy armor, so it was up to infantry to clear out minefields (under extremely heavy fire the entire time). Wall fights were always the best moments: tracers going back and forth, explosions everywhere. And god damn the first time you see an AI MAX you would shit your pants. The game was never the same after beta, not even half the people ended up staying. It was always fun though. I have mixed feelings about PS2: great gunplay, vehicles could use a bit of work, but it was the feel I was looking for... and PS2 only sometimes delivers. Most of the time I've spent playing felt like a few squad skirmishes with the occasional Biolab (which are not really that entertaining). Don't get me wrong, PS2 is the better game overall, but when it first came out it felt like there was no direction. It is improving though. And I am so happy they didn't try to add those god damn BFRs again. They literally ruined the first Planetside for me.

The game went from an improved Planetside to a carbon copy of Battlefield 3 (including the hud) and then it tried to be something unique and now it's turning into Planetside 1 again at a glacial pace. Nobody at SOE has any idea what the game is supposed to be but it's supposed to be something. It's becoming more fun in the current state, though. Over-arching objectives like continental lattice and such may add more to the game, but there's just something about how base captures that they nailed it in the last few months, between all the base redesigns.
this plays nothing like battlefield though I would welcome if it copied 2142 more.
this plays nothing like battlefield though I would welcome if it copied 2142 more.
I was talking about how the game was at about early beta. Save for using resources to pull how many vehicles you wanted and capturing bases, the game balance and mechanics were very close to Battlefield 3. Even before the beta, the game had a killcam and it tried to simulate Conquest by having 4-7 capture points spread around a base and a tickets mechanic, not requiring any effort actually getting into a base to capture it. You only needed to hold more points. Oh, you could also capture major facilities by capturing adjacent territories which would give instant progress to the cap bars, and nobody ever fought face-to-face. And Galaxies could deploy in G-AMS mode, which created spawns close to the enemy bases (more like, on top of them) and reduced walking times while being near indestructible. Speaking of Battlefield 2142, there's still Smedley's dream. That is, if the game doesn't go in a completely different direction from what he originally wanted.
Yes I was in the very first group of people to play the game even before the beta.
Damn, I hate this hitching/freezing

A resource/supply system where they have to be transported with sunderers or something, similar to PS1. And possibly a 'staging area' for each faction, as well, with Warpgates to the continents Speaking of indestructable galaxies [img_thumb]http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/SaborWolf/GunshipBattleTorn.jpg[/img_thumb]
I believe that's getting added in. [editline]18th November 2013[/editline] Although I'm getting burned out again because of the whole NC getting stuck in a corner again.
they planned something in which there are a few power crystal mines or something, from which you had to get vehicles with a supply of those things to other bases to provide them with enough power. Each base would create a little bit of power by itself, but not enough to supply a raging battle ( as the power would get drained way too fast by people spawning stuff non-stop, and it isn't per character like air/land/infantry resources) It was planned for may next year, but as we all know, that might take a lot longer if it isn't cancelled.
