Well, finished my first game of Planetside since the beta. Played for a good four hours as combat medic, ended up with enough cert points to pick up nanoweave 1, flak jacket 1, upgrade my healing magic laser twice and that's about it. That was with an insane amount of healing too. It felt like I was one of very few medics, as I had a bunch of assisted captures (the big 500 point ones) with each one having at least a dozen revives. My first assault ended getting me 3k scoreboard points in revives and healing alone. I got a shitload of healing ribbons, and don't know what they actually do other than give XP. All that for a tiny amount of certs. Considering I was looking for a fun no-grind F2P game, looks like I'll be disappointed. I couldn't even afford a decent scope or a new weapon (not even close to a new weapon) after 4 hours. Maybe I'll continue giving it a go tomorrow and activate that one day 50% XP boost I got. I also got 6 friend invites from people waaaay higher rank than me. Either people from facepuinch noticed my name, or my healing was actually useful. [editline]7th February 2014[/editline] Also TR #1

You'll have pretty much everything you wanted (barring some 1000 cert guns, sorry) with no effort. It's not ideal, but it may avoid you some of the "grind." If you're not digging the game in a week, I wouldn't invest further time playing to just get more stuff. It doesn't change much.

But I'd have to play at the same pace I am now (healing dozens of people and reviving just as much while assisting captures for four hours) for a shitload of time just to get like 2k certs so I can improve this combat medic and get another AR.
I hate it when the game forces a TK on me/others. I was just driving a harasser once, and this Sunderer entered within 10 feet of where I was. "Something" killed me (the pilot in the harasser) instantly, I think counting as a suicide. Though I couldn't see it, I was told that the harasser then spazzed the fuck out and obliterated the Sunderer. [editline]7th February 2014[/editline] Like, I spend most of my time just trying to help my team! I don't usually even shoot at people, I just vomit ammo and heals and try to defend captures from wayward LAs and Infiltrators. I just feel so sad knowing I bummed out a dozen people.

I haven't been able to play for a while, since I've got a pretty crappy connection at my new digs. What's the general swing of things lately? Who/what is considered overpowered since the Vanu got put back down with the rest of us?

The WDS has started so everyone is going in massive air zergs to get all the points and free stuff, and vanu are still being spandex wearing pussies.
Is it just me or is it better to only to play Combat Medic/Engineer for cheap cert points when you go back into this game after a really long time?

[editline]7th February 2014[/editline] Also TR #1
Everyone sucks at getting certs when they are new. Its kind of bad that the game is like this but if you invest time into it you learn all the ways you can better earn certs. I did a big post on it in this thread many pages back. Basically there are a ton of things in-game that boost your XP without buying boosts, ribbon bonuses can get you around 4-5K XP per day, get medals for weapons to get a nice cert bonus, defend facilities for a cert bonus, if you steamroll as an attacker you earn a lot of certs, killing vehicles gives a load of certs especially if they are extreme menaces/high threat (worth more), playing during alerts is the number one way to get bonus certs because you get a flat 20% XP boost for doing so plus the reward at the end (determined by how much your faction won divided by the amount of time you spent playing the alert), etc. Its totally possible for a totally free player to make 100 certs every 1.5-2hrs or so of playtime, maybe even more than that if you are really on a roll. Whenever I play I try and make my cert goal one cert averaged for every minute of playtime (if I don't make that, no biggie). It's not as hard as it sounds, sometimes you really strike gold. Like the one time I was gunning for a tank, while defending an amp station during an amp station alert while we were slightly underpopped. The enemy was literally POURING into the courtyard and I was just constantly blowing up infantry en masse for a solid 15 minutes. Got about 45 certs in 15-20 minutes from that alone :v: Considering the game lets you pretty much do everything without paying a dime and only new weapons (the default weapons are generally pretty damn good) or player progression involves certs, I think its pretty reasonable. Yes, you do need to "grind" a lot to unlock Nanoweave all the way, or completely kit out a class, or get a few new guns, etc... but I really like that the game doesn't depend on you getting that in order to really have fun with it. It could take me a couple of weeks to save up for a gun, but at least I was having fun for the most part instead of grinding for the sake of unlocking something. All of the "game" is already in the game without having to unlock anything, just the extras and goodies and such take time.
Is it just me or is it better to only to play Combat Medic/Engineer for cheap cert points when you go back into this game after a really long time?
well, yeah. you can count on the players of planetside to do one thing - get shot in their stupid faces, and being a class that can profit richly from players getting shot in their stupid faces, whether infantry, vehicle, or max, is always a good idea

Because the Vanguard as a whole was actually underperforming compared to to other tanks in pretty much every regard (including vehicle vs. vehicle), shield or no. At least it was up until that big ole' balance pass, but I don't recall anything happening to tanks during that save for some minor tweaking of damage and resistance values. Has anything actually changed in regards to tank balance, or are folks just looking for somethin' to doff?
It hasn't been changed, people have just been focusing on it more now that the Vulcan has been nerfed to oblivion and the ZOE is gone. Everyone always finds something to complain about.
Bummer.

Holy shit I just had to leave the game for a bit due to the rage. Just died as a Max because the 5 engineers around me refused to get off their sodding AI Mana Turrets, and could not get revived because the medics were to busy farming said engineers for free certs because the idiots kept getting picked off by the same few people.
hope you're not TR!
lol wtf you got like one kill how
The Vanguard itself isn't overpowered, it's the Enforcer that has ridiculous over-the-top DPS for a secondary gun.
That thing is a bitch to use with pubs though, even if I'm with my mates. Every gunner I've ever had has hopped in, saw the enforcer and said, "can't kill shit with this" and hopped right back out. No one wants to tank hunt with me when they could be farming infantry for a billion x more exp.
this doesn't make sense, how can 1499 be 99.5% better than all other players when the average for all other players in 1506
To quote the text at the very top of my website, "Rank and rating are different. Rank is simply the number of players that have a better rating than the player being ranked." At the time you did the query, you had a high rating (maybe around 1900), probably due to some killstreak. This ranked you 1500th. At the time I did the same query, you had 1700 rating, which ranked you 22300.

The VS are really good at kicking ass for the first hour and a half of an alert, and then losing basically everything in the last 30 minutes.
Welp, looks like I'm going to playing PS2 on a regular basis now. Free grind aside, it's actually quite fun. I'm having an issue where my healing beam isn't appearing though. I wasn't sure if there was supposed to be one when I first played, but after seeing that I'm supposed to have a magic green beam of healing, I've understood why healing has been so hard for me. I really want that green beam, and changing my particle/effects quality up and around hasn't helped. Also, reviving sure is weird sometimes. I've been managing to revive people through solid walls.

They're not actually through the wall, they died on your side, that's just the direction their bodies fell in.
Aren't they planning to re-add ragdolls as soon as they figure out a non detrimental way of doing.
okay ragdoll physics would certainly take the edge off a friendly sunderer plowing through an entire squad of your teammates, but considering the amount of people that can be dying at once near you in planetside, wouldn't that be kinda resource-intensive?

The way dead bodies work now is perfectly fine. Though, another possibility is doing them the way Halo 3 did them, where they're animated and have a definite position and orientation in space but the joints are free-ish to move.
Anyone else here have a ModMic 3.0? For some reason my mic is getting this weird humming/static noise on Planetside 2, but its only Planetside. Everywhere else it's fine.

I doubt they'll worry about ragdoll synchronization, even if that means people falling off cliffs and such.
