Goddamn I just tried playing again and I remember why I quit months ago.
TTK on par/lower than modern warfare, getting rolled by people who are combat rank 90+ and thus have way more certs spent which means they have way better shit, everything is glowing fucking neon at night, and coordination never exists for your side, while the enemy side is fielding many platoons of military-level organization.
Can't help but agree with you on a few of those points. I hate going into a battle, and it turns out theres just tons of BR 90+ enemies just using this as an opportunity to farm certs. They've got good weapons, such as that big ass revolver, battle rifles with every attachment possible, etc. and they just run behind enemy lines, unload a mag into the crowd, get some kills, and walk off. You try and stop them? Well, you get sniped or suddenly every single one focuses you.
Also having no vehicle certs and going 1v1 with another vehicle, you won't even stand a remote chance. Especially in planes.
Figured I could stick a repair Sunderer near a gate for defense. Jesus.
It contributed around 15k / hr XP to my score. Even after the repair points stopped, I was rolling in ribbons anyways.

I cant speak about dogfighting, but I don't really see the problem with that for ground vehicles. It would be really lame if some BR 1 guy could pound the living shit out of my up-armored lightening with AP cannon and surger chassis. If they want to beat a vehicle like that then they shouldn't go toe to toe with them and expect to win, they should work with friendly armor or just make the most of their surroundings.
You really don't need to have a MBT to be good at killing other vehicles. AP lightening with a decent magnifacation WRECKS shit. Fastest projectile for that tank and highest damage.
I do this all the time. TR taunts are the best.
I love the tr voices over nc or vs. It's one thing tr is good at

But do you get bonus checks? I thought naught.
But do you get bonus checks? I thought naught.
Dude...we don't even get them.
Dude...we don't even get them.
clearly you're not living free enough
What the hell, I was in my lightning while trying to scale down a hill when the side of my tank hit the ground and it instantly exploded :v:
Yeah, that sounds like Planetside 2.
Biggest problem with planetside is how boring the classes are and there's a severe lack of choice of playstyle
Just look at battlefield 4, every class has a whole buch of neat gadgets and it manages to make classes more unique than planetside. And battlefield is a MODERN THEMED SHOOTER
The only class in planetside that gets close to that is the infiltrator, except that the most useful abilities of the infiltrator give shit all exp
btw it's double experience weekend it seems
NC's carbines are actually all pretty different.
The GD-7F is your hipfire monster, slap and advanced laser on that and mow down people at point blank. The ACX-11 is like a portable Gauss Saw, and is best suited for mid-range fighting. Grab a forward grip for this one.
The Razor is what you want as a perching LA, and is great for longer midrange fights. Forward grip here too.
The Gauss Compact S is meh but it can mount grenade and smoke launchers, which have their uses. It's a multi-tool. I've had a lot of success using the actual gun part of this, so results may vary.
The Gauss Compact Burst is generally a trash gun. Avoid.
The Mercenary is good in the same range as the ACX-11 but it handles completely differently and is much more forgiving in close range combat at the cost of a high alpha and utterly devastating headshots.
I personally love the Razor since I'm not going to be getting any kills unless I'm in a stealthy spot with it. I have a suppressor on mine, which is not always recommended.

Handy.
I was planning on replacing my ACX-11 with a GD-7F, on account of everyone being a goddamn partisan fighter who exclusively fights in tight corridors.
gd-7f's reload time is balls though and it'll take some getting used to
i love the gun but tbh the razor is all-around a way more reliable weapon, and it's a good fit for both your light assault and engineer classes
sure you feel like you've got a lot of close range encounters but honestly i'd rather have the razor in a tight spot than the gd-7f in an open field
[editline]22nd February 2014[/editline]
if you dont roll engineer at all though then the gd-7f is a great pickup yeah

PS2 has variants of most of the equipment in Battlefield.
Can't help but agree with you on a few of those points. Sorry but that's not how it works. The reason they kill you isn't because of the 5% performance bonus they have from upgrading everything with certs, it's the skills they've gained from 1000+ hours of gameplay. I wreck BR100s with a standard Trac 5 with only a foward grip. The only real effect the cert dumps have is allowing you to do things differently, like sniping with a BA, blowing up vehicles, etc. In a fair 1v1 fight very little matters other than skill and your choice of loadout.
You're talking as if Battle Rifles are some sort of god weapons only unlocked at BR90 and they oneshot things. They're sidegrades, they're effective at some role and worse at others. Learn to fight around them instead of complaining about them.
As I said before, PS2 takes no advantage over being set in a sci-fi setting combat-wise.
Almost all that we see on the battlefield is a something we can see today.
Heat-seeking missiles? Gunpowder weapons? Flares? Cheap plastic looking weapons?

We all agree with you. The game looks somewhat sci-fi but is closer to WW1 in technology.

Remember they are cut off from earth. And look at Vanu, a whole faction of sci-fi. I think your just nit picking for stuff to complain about after getting zerged back to the warpgate.
To elaborate:
There can be so many things that you could add to the game to make it more unique.
Like deployable nanite shields for engineers to make cover when you need it. Or those automatic turrets.
Or hell, EMP granades scramble up you HUD and/or minimap or disable temporarily the control panels.
ANYTHING.

This happens.

Nice projecting there. What the hell does it even have to do with what I said.
Vanu weapons are for the most time just recolored bullet shooting weapon that has no bullet drop.
And that's about it, if it comes to the plateau of originality from SOE.

You mean those concussion granades?
You mean those concussion granades?
Oh. Yeah, you're right.
[editline]22nd February 2014[/editline]
No, wait. EMP grenades do fuck with your HUD.
[editline]22nd February 2014[/editline]
and your shield/cloak.

Wait, so the game HAS EMP granades? :v:
Are they faction specific? I've never seen anyone use them.
Also correction, the most original weapons in the game are Lasher and Lancer.

Well shit, nowadays I only play engineer :v:.
No worries. I still haven't bought the gun proper, so.

Things with the longest range in the world from longest to shortest.
1.) ICBMs
2.) Artillery
3.) Over-the-horizon airplane missiles
4.) Sniper Rifles
5.) Service Rifles
6.) Handguns
7.) Shotguns with ultra-wide spread
8.) Someone's throwing arm
9.) The throwing arm of an elderly man stuck in his bathroom
10.) Any weapon on Auraxis.

Infiltrator gets them. All factions.
Infiltrator gets them. All factions.
So THAT's why I never seen them used.
Most of the time they either sniper from hundreds of meters away or you get an SMG shoved up your ass.

They're really unimpressive, being that the dev's idea of disabling deployables is making things like land mines instantly detonate it's kinda counter intuitive.
Before the spawn room change this was their primary use.

Except that "most" (debatable) is divided between 6 classes instead of 4
Which is ridiculous, given planetside doessn't have the boundaries of authenticity that battlefield is limited by

I think you're missing a few vehicle mounted weapons before sniper rifles, but yeah, pretty much.
The average range of weapons on Auraxis is right around the maximum range of a paintball gun or air rifle. Actually I just looked this up for the hell of it.
The muzzle velocity of shotgun slugs is about 300m/s. That's the same velocity as a paintball gun. The velocity of a 'powerful' air rifle is about 900m/s, which is a higher muzzle velocity of any infantry weapon on auraxis, even the NC's new railgun sniper.
I know they halfed and quartered the velocity of their weapons compared to their real world counterparts because of the 300m draw distance and specifically engineered a lot of their weapons to be absolute trash at those ranges but god damn is it frustrating to have to lead targets so heavily at like 50m or more.
