Planetside 2 V6 - VS capped Indar? It's more likely than you think

Can I admit something? I feel like I play this game wrong. Even with joining platoons, I always feel like I'm just playing to look at my (abysmally slowly growing) cert count and basically just farming. I constantly feel like, outside of 1-1 combat, all of my vehicles, planes etc are no where near as powerful as others with 10+ hours grind on one weapon on one vehicle.
There isn't a right way to play! Go out and shoot things, that's about it.
If you're just in it to get more certs to get better weapons, I'd do something else. You want to play to have fun! Not think "oh, if I go here I can probably sit around and revive a lot of guys. That'll get lots of points."
For your certs you do get, I really recommend getting gameplay for your purchases. Improving auto-regen or reload speed is cool and all, but won't make much of a difference ever. Most of the guns are the same too. Buying 2 C4? Totally new possibilities.
Got 1000 certs sitting around, not sure whether or not to buy a turret for my Engi (Auto or Anti Tank), a new gun, or start speccing up my MAX.
If you haven't done it yet, I'd get the 250 AV option for your MAX. If you're not TR, the 1000 cert ranged ones are even better! Though there's a big risk they'll get nerfed sometime in the next few months.
Outside of shotgun range, the AV options are better at killing infantry and can murder vehicles.

The second generation (1000 cert) MAX AV weapons aren't worth getting unless you can afford both.
Fractures are shit and Vortexes slightly less shit (but far more obnoxious). Ravens are stupid overpowered.
Vortexes aren't bad. They're not the rape machines Ravens are, but they can still reach out and hurt past your render range.
But yeah, without a pair of them they're not as useful.
I'm so burnt out at this point. Haven't even tried the auto-turret. My outfit that has been going since day 1 has died off, people leaving or just stopping cause they too are burnt out or found a better game (Archeage seemed to draw more than a few away). I feel the best times were before the lattice, when strategy was key. Moving down a line until you hit a zerg wall then abandoning that line to go to another really gets me down.
I hope they get round to adding intercontinental lattice and battle islands this year and that LA revamp they were talking about.
Like, I threw a few bucks for one month at membership, but jeeze, even SC prices are fucking ludicrous.
What is this thing about strategy?
Duh, "strategy" means "cap empty bases and hop to a different one as soon as enemies show up to defend it" of course.
I Am looking at the whole picture of subscribing: I got barely enough to get one weapon and a bit of an xp boost. Great, prices are all over the place, no matter how long you subscribe, helms still cost $10. There is no excuse for these prices, a set of equipment costs far more than any AAA title on top of the subscription, for a kinda directionless game that really doesn't seem to be as updated as other mmos.
I mean, two years in and still every gun except for the far more expensive ones have nearly identical models

You want to talk about prices. In 2012 with far less things to buy, it would cost just under $400 to buy everything individually. For ONE faction.
On the plus side, the game isn't locked behind a paywall what so ever, and at worse is a time sink. So it's not so bad. Really wish the 1000 cert weapons were reduced to 500, though. There's enough shit that costs a thousand or more that it really is a time sink in the worst way
How exactly does subscription work? I mean in the sense that, if I were to buy, let's say 3 months, would I instantly be billed the $38.97 or the $12.99? And would it renew itself, or would I have to do that manually?

I think you get billed right then and there the full amount, and I also think it auto-renews. But there's nothing stopping you from cancelling it after you buy it so it doesn't re-new. It doesn't cancel the time you already paid for
Noted, thanks.
Noted, thanks.
Cancelling a multiple-month sub right away will stop you from being able to claim your monthly station cash for the remaining months though, so that's something else to consider if you want that SC.
How do I claim Station Cash anyway? I just bought a one month membership, but I haven't noticed any gains.

In the depot (and I presume the equivalent marketplace in other SOE games) there's a button on the front page allowing you to claim it. There's probably also a way of doing it from your account page but I don't go there that often.
Finally figured it out. Thanks a lot!
What's the current state of the Spiker? the 2-shot burst seems pretty good but I can't figure out what the chargeup is good for.

its there to look pretty and give it a reason to be a slightly worse desperado really
the spiker itself is pretty solid now, but the release of sights for the NS pistols knocked it and every other ES pistol into obscurity for the foreseeable future
so fucking angry that they removed my beloved #teamwoof banner. I played for the team and now I have no reason to play
Back again, played it for a few days last time I popped in here. Aside from the ugly as shit looking and borderline useless automated turrets I haven't really noticed much different.
I also decided to take a look at the Roadmap to see what the they had planned for this month, only to find that they haven't updated anything yet and that there were barely any votes for roadmap items for the previous month.
Also, I have very conflicted feelings about Planetside 2's "largest multiplayer FPS battle" Guinness World Record.
The title currently belongs to the Man vs Machine project where 999 people fought in the same battlefield.
In my opinion, Planetside 2 does not fulfill that criterion. Yes, you get over a thousand of people on a continent, but I feel like Planetside 2 should be excluded for a couple of reasons:
1) It goes against the spirit of this record. Every single player was visible in the Man vs Machine event. It ran pretty decently judging by the videos. Planetside 2 has a 300m rendering cap for infantry
2) It was a single engagement where each player had a relevant role in terms of taking strategic parts of the map. Again, the way PS2 is built, fights are often very disparate. It hardly matters what someone does on the other side of a continent when you use that information in the context of a skirmish happening in front of you.
Even in the long run, a victory or loss on a certain hex could also mean literally nothing at all for like 15-20 minutes after it happened if all pops are evenly balanced.
Maybe I'm wrong about some of my points but I still firmly hold that Planetside 2 does not and should not be counted in terms of boasting the largest number of players in an FPS battle. I would say it boasts the largest player count per server for a persistent shooter, but NOT for a single battle.
Duh, "strategy" means "cap empty bases and hop to a different one as soon as enemies show up to defend it" of course.
This is what I've always found lame as fuck about this game. It's never been my intention to cap empty bases and leave once enemies show up, but whenever my squad goes for an outpost it's always fucking no one for ages until the last minute when it's suddenly fucking everyone.
It's always all or nothing. I would kill for something for squads to be able to do without getting dragged into the meat grinder with the rest of the platoons.
Until they revamp the resource system and make ANTs a thing (god knows when that's happening though), there's not really much else they can do for smaller squads. If they add stuff for them to do completely separate from capping bases, nobody would be capping bases anymore.
As for the zerging, there's only one good way I can think of to fix that. Right now they try to give incentive to find fights where you're outpopped for a ridiculously small XP boost. That doesn't work. They need to go further and actively penalise people for fighting in battles where they outpop the enemy, even as far as giving you zero XP when you outpop the enemy 2-1. That way XP farmers (which let's be honest is everybody at this stage) have to go find a fair fight if they want their precious certs.

I really with they would add some end game content that's actually interesting. I have nearly every single gun for the TR fully modified in the sense that I have the mods that make sense for them
My Medic, Infiltrator, and Light Assault are all maxed as well.
My Lightening and Flash are near maxed and I hate the Prowler. The harasser feels like utter garbage and only marginally faster than the flash (which I find fucking hilarious) and I am NOT going to spend the 50-75 hour requirement to learn the air meta/ practice piloting.
I want new weapons, or at least ways of combining old weapons into something new. I'm not going to invest time in another faction until they add considerable content to bring back faction identity back, like I've said a trillion times.
Right now, every single shitty outfit on TR emerald is essentially "If the fight is too tough, even though we have a decent chance of winning; abandon and ghost cap instead".
I don't think I'm alone when I say that certs and XP are utterly worthless values for me right now. I have like 2.5-3k certs that I casually spend on different shaped Red Dots.
Increasing battlerank seems completely trivial I got to 64 because it's my favorite number and that's where it will stay. You grind XP for some stupid title and icon that no one really looks at anyway.
Please SOE, please create some sort of interesting, maybe time limited events ala Warframe instead of endlessly recycling your shitty holiday particle effect cannons and immersion-obliterating malignant, eye-cancer of themed aesthetics or camoflage.

In their defense, it is frustratingly impossible to succeed in capturing an actively defended base and nets less points than defending a base themselves.
But yeah, most of what you said I agree with. With how weapons are now, there's only a handful worth anything, and they're used in every situation. All of them are also just damage dealing, and none are support weapons. AI weapons are also almost famously useless, often being worse at AI than AV weapons.
Haven't played for nearly a year, what have i missed?
