Not sure how to feel about even more close-range weapons.
It's not a double barreled shotgun, so it can't make the CQC game any worse.
They'll never add long-range weapons worth a damn anyway so more SMGs and shit are the best anybody can hope for.

But all I want is my Light battle rifle for LA :(
In all seriousness though, the above is probably spot on. The render distance for most infantry seems to be the most stable at 300m.
I would prefer more mid range options, personally. Further additions to Empire specific BRs, ARs, and Carbines would be nice.
why is the desperado so weak?
Because test server. Damage values are probably copy+pasted from the default pistol.
These videos were just uploaded to Vanu Labs' account.
Surprised you guys hadn't posted them.
We don't post every single video from the channel because there's so many of them.
Having said that, shit yes finally the concept art helmets.
EDIT: So apparently 'Vanu Labs' is not a dev or a QA tester, he's not affiliated with the dev team but somehow managed to get his own version of forgelight running. How? I have no freaking idea.

Provided subsequent battle rifles did more than sprinkle enemies with hot piss, sure. I get more use out of my Commissioner at medium range than my Eidolon/Warden.

The issue I can see with a battle rifle is something that does revolver level damage, sniper rifle accuracy and can be spammed at close range hipfire but given a scope to work at mid to long range.
It's a tough beast to balance.

Revolver level damage? The Commissioner does almost twice the amount of damage BRs do shot for shot if I remember correctly. Or were you speaking hypothetically?
I think a good battle rifle design would be something that does above average damage than an assault rifle/LMG per shot, maybe have the accuracy and recoil of the slower firing versions of said weapons, and have a rate of fire that doesn't feel stupid and hamstrung like the ones we have now. Obviously it would have a small mag to make up for its power though (like 10-15 rounds).
I can't really describe it, but there's just something about BRs at this stage that feels singularly unappealing to me at close and mid range.

He doesn't have his own version of forgelight running, it's all on PTS, can't go into detail with the exploit but it's already been reported to SOE although they are actually being pretty kind about this sort of stuff unlike their other games in this sort of situation.
I can't lock onto anything in VR anymore. Is this new, or was it just an unlucky event?

They're just models right now, no stats.

He's using some private scripts to get GM powers to spawn any weapon/vehicle. SOE doesn't mind as long as he's the only one doing it and he doesn't interfere with anyone's experience. He's possibly even allowed to do what he does, since he isn't exactly hiding it.

That makes more sense.
They just released the video showing the new Battle Island the Nexus.

Looks pretty awesome, a lot of detail there compared to the normal continents.
Good god that music is horrible.
If only Esamir was like that instead of a big bland expanse that lacked any sort of character.

It's not tough to balance at all, but the devs have a warped sense of what balance is. Right now average score means everything to them, so a high-risk/high-reward weapon like a proper FPS battle rifle can't exist. The entirety of infantry combat is centered around really low skill floors so a BR1 who just signed up can do okay spraying with a Carv/SAW/Orion, and really low skill ceilings so you aren't going on absurd tears without some heavy resource consumption (C4, medkits, grenade bandoliers, MAX) or conservative playing and abuse of a situational weapon. A gun that made you a threat at any range based on player skill would be great by normal FPS metrics, it'd just make everything from snipers to pump babies mad, and less happy niche weapon users = less revenue.
Thankfully I primarily play VS and our MAX is hilariously good at range so I can just go the "spend more, be OP" route.

I'd settle for turning the Commissioner into a primary weapon and letting it take attachments, but yeah, the ideal would be like a 10 round Gauss SAW that has better walking ADS accuracy.
The issue with the current battle rifles is that they have the TTK of a shitty carbine without the damage being distributed over multiple shots and lower muzzle velocity than the ranged carbine and LMG variants. Up close, even assuming you never miss, you'll be outhit by a fucking Solstice; at dropoff range, you're using something with slower rounds than most ranged LMGs and carbines, and your perfect accuracy TTK is the same as theirs assuming they missed repeatedly.
Did anybody post this Chinese commercial because the thing is a fucking riot.
Ran with hardcase's open recruitment platoon for devil dogs, since my times just aren't lining up with my outfit, I'm considering it. Getting tired of just running stag with no backup, support, or even a gunner, last 2 weeks I've just been focusing on my infiltrator to work on long range moving targets.
That's one great thing about DD, there's always at least a squad or two running at any given time, even during the late hours.
So if you get the Desync Walking corpse bug while being an infiltrator, you are still able to hack terminals.

yesterday we had exactly that, but it was a TR Heavy with a spinning, constantly shooting minigun. Fucking hell the noise man...

I like to jump up and down in front of enemy snipers.
SO I'm thinking of going jumping into planetside 2, but recently looked at the forums and looks like the Vanu has so much more players than other empires. Is it because their overpowered?

I wouldn't call the VS overpowered, personally. The VS has just been getting more of the 'Fourth Faction' players, in recent times.
Population really depends on the server you intend to play on; Mattherson is one prime example of a server that has a high VS population and low TR population. Waterson, on the other hand, is the exact opposite: Low VS population, high TR population.
The Vanu has the 4th factioners at the moment but in a balanced fight they're not as scary as it seems. Their niche is long range, and coupled with a decent rate of fire it gets ridiculous, but otherwise they're killable just like anyone else you run into. Originally the ZoE Max suits were ridiculous, but now that the damage intake is significantly increased they're a little more tolerable with a brick of C4, a rocket or a couple mags of a automatic shotgun.
There's no shame in pulling out a shotgun or max suit if the odds are 3 to 1. :U

The official forums are also full of morons. The devs don't even care about it, they have to have an official forum because of some company policy but they mainly post on twitter and reddit and such.
Christ, looking at it half the posts are like WHY SNIPERS NEED TO BE BUFFED and OMG THE KDR STAT IS [worthless/necessary/magical], never go to the official forums.
i havent played since december a long time, what is "4th faction"? from what i can see on google its people ditching their factions when they start to lose but im not entirely certain
Pretty much exactly that. People who play whatever faction is "winning" at the time. It's not really as rampant as people make it out to be, but it still happens.
Do they intend to fix the Djinn mask texture bug for the NC, where the neck and the collar at the bottom is a berry blue? It's bugging the hell out of me because the back of the neck just stands out like a sore thumb with Amerish Leaf.
Apparently the suggestions and bugged are being sorted by thumbs up, so if anyone's feeling generous to thumb the post up to get it noticed by the devs, I'd appreciate it. :>

That's not a bug.
That is the ugliest thing they could ever do to an otherwise good concept of a mask and I immediately regret not buying the retracted foreman's helmet.
