Man surviving as Northumbria is fucking impossible, the goddamn Vikings get forty thousand men
They've nerfed the levies but they've left event troops unchanged apparently. I'm still hoping for a second hotfix before I start a new game, because of the event troops imbalance and also the reported bug where crusades are won but no territory is gained by anyone.
What's worse is they raised all the event troop numbers too. When Old Gods first released I thought the Vikings got like ten thousand men altogether, and it was easy enough as Northumbria to hide in Ireland until all the Catholic Irish lords joined you and sent armies. Now there's no point in trying to fight the Vikings. At the very least event troops could cost money or something, to prevent the AI from just curbstomping everything with the early Medieval equivalent of a million men. Also, didn't they go on about vastly improving the AI in 2.0? Because maybe it's just me but I see a lot more of the AI marching endlessly halfway between two provinces.
What is the actual hardest country to start with in IV? I want to give it a try.
Albania.
You literally can't unless you're doing a modified earlier start date. Gave me a chuckle though.
That's like meta-difficulty if you can't just release and play as vassal
You literally can't unless you're doing a modified earlier start date. Gave me a chuckle though.
Invading Serbia can lead to Albania surviving.
I tried playing as Walachia but Hungary always invades nothing i can do.

Needs more context. In other news, my DH "Who can into space" list, in order of moon landings: 1. DDR (Glorious leader of the 4th Internationale) 2. USA 3. Soviet Union (Comintern scum) 4. Japan 5. Scandinavia (4th Internationale, also got like 10 CVLs) 6. Italian People's Republic (4th) 7. Iberian People's Republic (4th, not done researching Moon Landing Prep)

Man I wish I had the money for HOI3. Is it any good?
What mod is this?
Its HPP if I recall correctly, been mentioned quite a few times already.
At least we know it ain't BICE. The whole map would be gray.
Man I wish I had the money for HOI3. Is it any good?
On its own the game is regarded as being awful. It is a great game when you have all the expansions though, so when you have the chance get all of them.
On its own the game is regarded as being awful. It is a great game when you have all the expansions though, so when you have the chance get all of them.
I wanted to get the HOI3 Collection. But alas no cash.
as someone who loves civilization V a shitload (like 500 hours or something), how would i like this game? any similarities, or none at all?
as someone who loves civilization V a shitload (like 500 hours or something), how would i like this game? any similarities, or none at all?
This I absolutely love Making History 2. Would I like this as well?
as someone who loves civilization V a shitload (like 500 hours or something), how would i like this game? any similarities, or none at all?
Which one?
This I absolutely love Making History 2.
Which one?
oh wait shit i forgot this was the thread for the developer. whichever game has the entire world in it i suppose? is it possible to "conquer" the entire world in any of them?
Yeah Europa Universialis 4, Victoria 2, and Hearts of Iron 3 let you do that. Europa is set between the end of the Hundred Years War and the start of the Industrial Era (I think, haven't actually played it). Victoria 2 is Industrial (?) to the First World War, and Hearts of Iron 3 is the Second World War. That's all timeframes, mind you, and though you can play out history as it happened, you can also make Belgium a nuclear superpower and head of the Comitern if you want Plus there's mods and expansions and shit for ages, I think there's a Cold War expansion or something coming out for Hearts of Iron pretty soon

It's actually a standalone game from the HOI series and being developed by BL-Logic, but yeah it's supposed to be released in either Q1 or Q2 2014.

I played as Switzerland initially and put Albert Einstein in as my Armament minister which gave me ridiculous bonuses on Secret Weapon decays and I basically rushed into that field while I built up a strong Infantry base to hold the frontline as I nuked the enemy into submission. Some other strange stuff happened while my scientists labored about in Geneva however, Germany forced France into a truce and the French State formed, however this was different from the usual as it isnt Vichy and wasnt part of the Axis. They were weak after this and I took advantage to force myself in there and reinstall a democratic government and placed the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region under my control as Protectorate to ensure the Italians wouldn't be able to try anything while I stationed troops on the Maginot line and the former border of Belgium and the Netherlands. However I wasn't finished in France yet, the Iberian Peninsula has some radical fascist ideas and needed some good ol' liberation which I gladly provided in a 2 month long war in which the UK aiding me through Gibraltar, all while this keep in mind my nuclear armament stockpile kept growing and my strategic rockets were being produced as well, my scientists had also discovered the incredible power of Jet engine proppled bombers and fighter ensuring me Air supremacy. While I fought in the West, Germany decided to poke the Red Bear and repeatedly spray it in the face with Bear Mace putting it into submission winning the Patriotic war without breaking a real sweat. The Soviet Union is forced into a bitter peace and Germany gets its much longed Lebensraum, Italy annexed the Balkans and Greece but thats not really important because Italy is irrelevant. So I waited 2 years until I was in a good position to attack, I built up my Army and weapons then I attacked. 12 nukes were systematically dropped on major german production cities and on its Capital after a week the Nazi's surrendered but the war wasn't over yet, troops loyal to the regime remained and the government was forced into Exile as Swiss forces occupied the now vast space eliminating pockets of resistance. A static line that defended France and Switzerland from the Italians now slowly encroached from the north as the Brit's did work in the Mediterranean and Africa eventually landing in Sicily, nukes were not needed here. While the Americans never joined the war due to no attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese were still their good old Imperialist self, they had invaded Thailand and Indochina and were occupied there, HOWEVER it seems China had gained the upperhand somehow in the mainland and had pushed Tojo all the way back to the border of current day North Korea retaking Manchuko as part of the PRC. A naval invasion this late in the war was a pipe dream with the Japanese naval superiority and no American Pacific fleets to challenge them, Operation Overlord would be to costly in men anyway so I went the historical route. China accepted the invitation to fight for the Allies and granted Swiss bombers rights to station in Air Bases on the Chinese coast (Somehow flying from Geneva to there in one single flight) and dropped two bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Emperor shortly surrendered after. With the war over Germany was placed under control of the Swiss and the Government restored in France and many of the pro allies countries. Many of the former Socialist Federal Republic's were granted their independence and a democrating Russia was created under the eyes of the Allies. The Balkans were also split into countries following a convening in Geneva and the new Countries and Governments founded. While the Great War is over, tension between the exclave of the Soviet Union and Russian Federation brews and calls to reunite the separatists under one flag the Russian Revolution may be revisted. [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] This isn't a nutshell when I look at it now :v: Also the mod is HPP for those of you wondering.
oh wait shit i forgot this was the thread for the developer. whichever game has the entire world in it i suppose? is it possible to "conquer" the entire world in any of them?
I would recommend you start with Europa Universalis IV. It is by far the most user friendly and easiest to get into. After that you can look into Victoria II and Hearts of Iron 3, but both of those require quite a bit of autonomy with your diplomacy, economy, trade, etc, if you want to do well. However, those can be automated through the settings I believe, but you may or may not want to full have control over them.
The only thing I care about is if I can drop a hydrogen bomb on Dallas as the Mexicans before sparking World War 3 as Belgium invades The Netherlands. Is this possible?
The only thing I care about is if I can drop a hydrogen bomb on Dallas as the Mexicans before sparking World War 3 as Belgium invades The Netherlands. Is this possible?
That would probably happen without your intervention anyway, knowing Paradox games.

Is this possible?
Acquiring nukes take a considerable amount of time (especially with a mediocre country like Mexico) but theoretically you could pull it off, assuming you don't use TFH's CGM feature or outright cheating.
the fact that that request sounds like something someone would say to create the most bizarre scenario which could never be true only to be replied with "well here's the technicals and maybe some better ways to achieve this etc" really speaks for these games. getting EUIV
Does anyone else look at Kazahkstan on a modern map and just cringe. It's just this fucking massive chunk out of Russia that totally fucks up where you can put the name. It bothers me.
