Paradox Interactive Thread: V2 The cartographers nightmare.

So I just had an awesome playthrough in the HRM.
I had given Indochina independence and the forces I had there were all stuck.
Everyone was being a major jerk off so I had to jump from tiny U.K. controlled island to tiny U.K. controlled island until I could finally get close enough to load my forces on.
It then turned out they can't get on and Indochina is being an asswipe and won't let me use their ports.
I made it so that Poland is pretty much Congress Poland borders.
2.02 is out, time to play some CK2!

Prussia can into Great Britain! Also, England got completely fucked by rebels and is now an Administrative Republic. Holy shi'ite muslims it literally hurts.
That West Francia blob is kinda scary looking.
West Francia actually managed to take over every Karling Kingdom at one point in my game.
And then they died and the Karling game started all over.

Sometimes I look at EU3 and think about the 500+ hours I put into it and wonder where it all went wrong in EU4
Sometimes I look at EU3 and think about the 500+ hours I put into it and wonder where it all went wrong in EU4
EUIV is great. I could never get into EUIII.
I wish I could play Ironman with a mod. As it is, it's pathetically easy to conquer things as a Tengri in vanilla.
Is there a way to get more doomstacks as the Mongol Empire? My 60k ran out pretty quickly and I can't really do shit without them.

EU3 was really quite shit until about the 3rd expansion. I must have put 1000s hours into EU2.

I'll start, the entire coring and over-extension system!
My most succesfull playthrough yet as Japan. I've got like 6 Carrier Taskforces ready to attack and 30~ marines and more landing crafts, I'm not sure whether to attack the States or SEA first.

Mod is August Storm
I'll start, the entire coring and over-extension system!
Also the trade system. I liked the concept but I wish they weren't so static and flowing only in one direction.
Man Naval warfare is such bullshit in HOI3, I don't understand it for the life of me :v:
I like the core and over-extension system. Makes sure there are repercussions for bum-rushing any country completely. It adds a little strategy to the game. The Trade system for me is just a nice way to get more inflow of $.
I like how the culture conversion works in EU4, in EU3 it could just never happen. I wish the culture conversion was also changed in CK2, I hate having pockets of my culture in places they really shouldn't be at.
Man Naval warfare is such bullshit in HOI3, I don't understand it for the life of me :v:
If there's one major lesson I learned from the French game I played earlier this year, air power is very crucial. NAV and CAS are deadly against naval units in battle, port strikes, and generally a decent substitute for convoy raiding. If you can also afford FTR they are good for covering navies while on the move/retreat and assisting your CAGs in inevitably huge CAG battles (severe stacking be utterly damned!).
Avoid using destroyers in your SAGs as they perform poorly compared to CL.

Over-extension and religious unity on their own sound good, but their possibilities are completely static and means wars don't change beyond fabricate>conquer 3 territories>core>fabricate on other state and so on. There is absolutely no thought or dynamism to them, they also don't necessarily always make sense either. I haven't really put much thought into how those should be tweaked so I don't really know what would be the best way to improve them. If I had my way I'd return the coring and cultural conversion mechanics back to how they were in EU3.
I imagine though that, over time and with enough expansions, EU4 will end up radically improved just as CKII is now compared to vanilla.

You can in 2.02 beta, but you won't get achievements.

Game of Thrones mod getting an update soon added Essos.
Both GOT and Elder Kings now have their own subforums on the paradox forums
There's speculation going on at the Paradox forums right now over the images they've been releasing as part of their 'advent calendar'. They are both apparently from an unannounced project and people are saying that it follows the CKII art style so they are treating it as a new possible expansion.

Others are equating it to that mousey dwarf thing further down on the calendar as some sort of fantasy project. Considering that the OP in that thread is using it as justification for more pointless "hurr need more years, whats a dark ages", I sure hope its a new fantasy strategy game.

That religion in Sweden is a Norse Heresy that became the mainstream religion in my CK2 game.

This is working better than expected. I'm glad I was able to remove the Magyars quite early on.

:C
CK2+ has really, really, stupid ways of handling things.
I just tried to imprison someone who was backing a plot to murder me and my fucking husband with 100 opinion joins the rebellion because his faction mood is unhappy.
He's the only person in his faction.
so I have base game CKII and I have no idea what I'm doing
I find Victoria 1 better than Victoria 2.
I just can't get the same fun out of Victoria 2 HoD. I mean, the combat/army system fucks up the whole game for me. I don't get the same satisfaction in Vic 2 for encircling an army or pulling some awesome schlieffen shit than I get in Vic1
Did I mention the terrain/forest system of the first one is just...marvelous? You can hold off waves of agressors if you happen to have the technology and right leaders.
The same doesn't happen in Vic2. Good luck in China, bro.
That's why I'll wait for another expansion before touching it.
