I find Hearts of Iron III pretty easy, the thing is though, I often get bored of micro-managing divisions so I end up just selecting AI Control for most of my theatres.
Personally I can't stand using ai control at all, I prefer managing every theatre on my own.
I've never done anything but AI control for the military (except when using nukes). I feel like I'm sorta missing the point of the game.
One of my favorite hobbies in an EU game is starting as an OPM (or tiny island) and colonizing the entire new world and administrating an entire empire overseas while holding a single city back home.
I have so far succeeded in doing this as Sicily, Malta, Iceland, Sardinia, and Corsica. Just use a huge navy to protect yourself and you don't even need an army. As Sicily I even managed to vassalize the entirety of Italy in the process to manage the land wars for me.

Try the knights
Portugal, Muscovy and the Ottoman empire are probably the friendliest countries to play. I would probably even add Ming/Japan as a starter for none-european gameplay.
Just be careful, last I checked Japan is bugged in regards to Krishitan rebels

Its a bit dumb but its been patched a bit. They still basically force you into passing laws that isolate Japan. Despite that I managed to westernize and conquer all of East-Asia.

As long as even moderately tolerating christians doesn't condemn you to an eternity of darkness and strife it's an improvement to how it used to be.
Do OPMs still get mad tech bonuses in EU4?

I'd rather have AI control for little fronts and stuff, rather than full theater. If I'm invading the soviet Union, they can go through the baltics while I focus on the actual fight. :v:
Paradox did a stream of a MP game of Conquest of Paradise yesterday

Just choose any of the broadcasts that 2 hours long, they're all the same they just re-ran it twice.
Something to take out of it, Swedish North American Colonies can be named Vinland and New Sweden.
I can't stop laughing at how bad of a name Morocco's "Jadida Granada" is
Bunch of people have been commenting about that on the forums so it will probably be changed before launch.
Lot of weird shit going on on Gamersgate... I bought CK2 there originally. They've just added to my account Crusader Kings II "Backup Copy" and TWO copies of CK2 "DLC Collection" - which is a shell item empty of content - and some of the minor DLC as separate items.
Paradox is ending their support of the GG version and focusing solely on steam, might be part of that.

I guess I must have already owned those DLC (preorder bonuses? no idea).
Doesn't explain the 2 copies of DLC Collection, but it's empty so not like I got any free expansions out of it. :downs:
I was wondering if you guys could help me out with modding a save in EUIV. So I imported my Jerusalem game before they added its own unique ideas, I've tried to change this in my save but I've been struggling in order for it to actually take effect.
I went into my save file and tried to change this
active_idea_groups=
{
default_ideas=0
}
to either this
active_idea_groups=
{
KOJ_ideas=0
}
or this
active_idea_groups=
{
jerusalem_ideas=0
}
But neither of them actually seem to take effect, and default to the national ideas! Can anyone here help find out why?

Sweet, all 6 games for 10 bucks! So which of the Paradox games should I start with? I've heard that Crusader Kings II is the easiest but I'm a lot more interested in the Victoria II timeframe.
Victoria II might not be a good choice for someone new to the series since it's arguably the second most difficult game to get into (right after HoI3, but it depends who you ask). CK2 is pretty easy, but it's more about dynastic management instead of handling the affairs of an entire nation, so I'd recommend starting with EU3 first since it has a little more similarity with it's sister titles.
Eu4 is the friendliest title.
So friendly that it gives you a drink and a back rub, in fact.
Vic2 was my first Paradox game. It's pretty easy on some levels. Just go for isolated/intermediate countries and start globbing up until capitalists and middle class kill you.

I got into Paradox games with Viki 2. I still found EU3 harder for some reason.

With cascading alliances it is.
I love Victoria 2, I would love it more if the military system were better. Then I could actually finish a game for once. By the time I reach the 1900s, wars become so tedious and boring that I simply debug yesman just so I don't have to fight it. If Victoria 2 had HoI3's military system, it would be fantastic, but the whack-a-mole system they have now just makes it impossible to hold a line.
