Paradox Interactive Thread: V2 The cartographers nightmare.

HoI3 was my first Paradox game. It lead to some unfortunate concerns regarding micromanagement among other games.
I didn't find Victoria 2 that hard to get into. The hard part is playing the game well.
Free two song DLC out for both CK2 and EU4
Vicky 2 is by far my favorite game. Although the base game is complete AIDS and near unplayable once you try a few good mods.

I think that is the first time I've heard/read someone use the term 'AIDS' as an insult.

It's just a thing I tend to say about something being really unpleasant.
it's empty so not like I got any free expansions out of it. :downs:
I "fixed" it by gifting it to myself. :v:
The problem with Vicky 2, is that there is only ONE formula, in my case, for success, with all countries.
I mean:
Go nat focus admn.
go nat focus clergy
go nat focus caps
use all events to force state capitalist or int. parties into power
Build up factories.
Profit.
Pwn the neighborhood

Depends. While interventionism can work quite well for getting industry off the ground, it can bite you in the ass later on when all the factories are running at a loss.
I had a game as Japan where I used interventionism to boost my economy up to about 4000 industrial score, then my money reserves went dry and I had a huge depression that resulted in my industrial score dropping by over 3000 and only slowly starting to recover about a solid decade of misery (that was ended by a military expansion/spending drive), with it recovering to 1800 by the end of the game.

How could you possibly manage to crash the economy as Japan? They're so strong on that front.

I got lazy and just subsidized every factory.
Sometime in the 1910s the world economy went down the shitter and I found myself overproducing everything. I had monetary reserves of about 6 million so I spent them and hoped to wait it out by invading China and slowly annexing bits of it.
I ran out of money and the economy still didn't pick up (I had tried to shut down some factories and build newer electrical parts/cars/telephone factories) and so I went "Might as well let the free market fix it".
I have some questions.
A friend of mine gifted me Crusader Kings II. With some money left, I bought the DLC Collection Pack and Garry's Mod for him.
I now have absolutely no money left, and I just find out I didn't get two big expansion packs to the game (The Old Gods and the Sons of Abraham). Can I just get these two or do I have to get all the songs and portraits and unit graphics?

Songs, portraits and units are just cosmetic things, they're not needed for anything. Actually some portrait packs look so bad they're really not worth buying.

Fantastic. Then I'll just look out for them. (read: find someone who is kind enough to gift me since I just ran out of money)
It's a pretty bad image but I just love when these moments happen in EU3. This war just happened to me an hour ago, and it was so cool I decided to document it.

playing as a custom ruler as the kingdom of bavaria starting in 867 and i'm having lots of trouble getting my head around succession laws and titles lost on succession
Basically never ever use Gavelkind, since if you have more than one son all of your titles, which are counties/duchies/kingdoms/empires you hold personally, will be divided amongst your sons which means your kingdom will get divided unless you start killing all of your sons except your favorite.

Training my men before WW2, maybe I can survive the Nazi's.

The best succession law to get (if you've got a good grasp of the game in general) is Ultimogeniture, which means the youngest son of your family gets all the titles. Sure it might not be as stable as Tanistry or Elective, but it guarantees you'll be playing a young character every time, allowing you more time to rule along with having more control over the character's development.
And make some matrinal lines in your family so you have family members in other branches.
I usually give it to family members or make republics if I can. Family members ensure that the realm stays together since they all stay on one side in the event of a civil war.

Never same generation though.
If you do, give a minor title or something. If you give the same generation titles and they're not super friendly with you, there will be claimant wars.

Germany said fuck the Molotov-Ribbentov compact
Is it possible for the Allies and Axis to work against the Commies?
Barbosa happened early I guess, the Soviet army wasn't mechanized enough to deal with the Germans yet and this is how far they got in 4 weeks.

Muh automerge
Is it possible for the Allies and Axis to work against the Commies?
I've never seen or heard something like that happening, actually.
Really digging this new HPP version, the Japanese are doing correct amphibious invasions for once.

FUCK MY AUTO MERGE
Wait, there is a new version of HPP out? Aw crap :v: I had an excellent game as the PRC, in which the Axis only won against Italy and Shanxi by January 1940.

Check it. Red is PRC, Blue is ROC, Yellow is Japan, Green is Meingjiang/Inner Mongolia. Numbers mark each month of 1939.
Also Poland survived from June to February even reaching Kiev, but that's like, a completely common thing.

Yeah, managed to enact Ultimogeniture because my crown authority isn't so high enough for Primo.
The problem is, is that from going from Gavelkind I have to parcel out land to my 4 sons, and I have such a small demesne....
One time when I still had Gavelkind, the ruler died and succession went a little awry with non-family members inheriting some lands of the demesne?
[editline]25th December 2013[/editline]
also, anything new in HPP?
Also, anything new in HPP?
Latest version seems to have expanded and fixed some elements of the Chinese Civil War and Second Sino-Japanese war.

No you don't have to parcel out land, it's just a prestige hit for not doing so. It's a VERY BAD IDEA to give them land in fact, since they tend to want to rebel and take the crown from your heir when you die.
Generally, give land to cousins and beyond, but breed your other children out in order to make kinsmen for the main line.
You want to have several lines so that you can give out land to family without there being huge claimant wars over kingdoms.
Matrinal is fucking awesome when you can do it. It's one of the one things I don't like about republics, families will often go extinct or close to extinct since you can't have matrinal lines.
[editline]25th December 2013[/editline]
Also, marry your sons to the nearest daughter of a throne. You might have a chance to inherit it or be able to start a war over your claim on it.
