I hope HOI4 does better and we can get some decent expansions. I would have liked it if it was 1933-1950 instead of 36-48
Even having it at 10% max is too damn risky imo. I never set tariffs past 1% since it always tends to severely harm my industry. Same with lowering tariffs, I don't like to set it past -2% since it tends to have a negative impact on the industry.
Doesn't subsidizing industry negate this? Artisans starve, factories grow.
Some Runemaster screens
Doesn't subsidizing industry negate this? Artisans starve, factories grow.
Subsiding can be pretty dangerous too. Using it in the intermediate long term, especially en masse, can cause a bubble economy that eventually leads to a terrible economical crash. Which could take a very long time to recover from, depending how bad it was and other variables like what economical policy you have.
So what engine is Hearts of Iron IV going to run on? Or is that unconfirmed?
Probably the newest version Clausewitz.
So I bought EUIV.
Started a game as Savoy because they had a port and a location I wanted. Got a casus belli against Provence because I fabricated claims and got stuck in a goddamn 7 year war because Burgundy was occupied with Hungary but they eventually helped out. It's 1455 and I have gained just Provence so far but I'm really still learning the ropes of EU. I have ~a year and change until I can recruit an explorer which I plan to send immediately to the New World. Sorta want to start a new campaign as Burgundy (because they have a pretty cool start too, could fight to unite France while fighting the English and also send ships to the New World) even though I don't really have a reason to. These damn Paradox games.
Anyone have tips for increasing income? Mine is always a measly 1 or 2 ducats per month.
Will the AI for the Byzantine Emperor mend the schism if I take over all the necessary sites? All I'd need to take now is Jerusalem.

I think the only event they can't actually do is reform the Roman Empire.

Lower army maintenance when at peace, and make sure to focus on your trade. Since you're Savoy, Genoa should be right underneath you with a pretty rich province that also has bonus trade power. I'd take that province and pump out some light ships and set them to protect trade for more trading power.

They should be able to, There is no "ai = no" tag in the event file.

Those fuckers have had an embargo on me for a few years now anyway. Should I fabricate a claim or just go for them?
I find claims are always helpful in the long run since it means a lower admin cost to begin to core the intended provinces
Can you call an ally into a war after it's already begun? I have Naples and Tuscany willing to jump into a war with Genoa for me, but I did a little test run to see who would actually help Genoa. Turns out even France will help them, so it would be nice to see if Burgundy would change their stance on joining the war.
edit: Apparently you can, but Burgundy is in debt and can't help. I tried making an alliance and royal marriage with France and they accepted but they still took goddamn Genoa's side in the war. :suicide:

I wasn't a huge fan of the NI system in EU4, felt too restrictive imo.

I really hope they didn't replace counters with sprites....
"Hearts of Iron III had an option to have the AI make decisions for each of the main screens including research and production. These are gone in Hearts of Iron IV in an effort to streamline and simplify."
ughhhh
"With regards to provinces in the game, the aim is to make it easier to control a large number of provinces with major construction projects being tied to a region (a group of provinces.) However, strategic buildings such as bunkers and anti-aircraft batteries are still built in individual provinces."
UGHHH
I dont see how removing the AI to make decisions and auto research etc... is making it more simple... If anything it's making it more complicated for some people.
Perhaps it should be better read that they are removing the potential necessity of having the AI manage specific screens for you as a result of streamlining/simplifying?
If I have to believe the Paradox forums, HoI4 is the blunder of the century. Kind of funny how they know that less than a week from the announcement already.
Also East vs West is completely dead and will never ever resemble anything close to a passable product ever, of course.
I love how people have no faith or trust in almost any game dev anymore

BL Logic is still working on EvW.
BL Logic is still working on EvW.
Of course, but it's the PI forums that seems to forget.
Actually I'm kind of hopeful for EvW, if you look at the stream back in July it looked fairly presentable and by March they will've had 8-9 months of extra time.

Ohhh were you talking from their perspective
Ugh. No matter what I did I couldn't get France to not join the war and I didn't want to restart my first real EU game. Made France not accept Genoa's call to war but I also didn't bring my allies in so it was an even fight that took fucking like 6 or 7 years and I finally have Liguria.
I think I'm done playing in Europe forever in EU4...
it's simply put, not fun. not at all. every european game is too deterministic and I keep getting in trouble with any of the overpowered nations. Fuck France, and most of all, Fuck Portugal and Castille. I hate the events which gives Austria and France half of Burgundy. I hate the Iberian Wedding. They all happen every game I play. I hate how Castille and Portugal get trade winds (CAN THEY PLEASE ADD TRADE WINDS TO OTHER OCEANS BUT THE ATLANTIC? THEY ACTUALLY EXIST IN ASIA/AFRICA TOO!) so that they can colonize on day 1, and I hate that South America is taken over by both nations every game. Every time I play in Europe, it's mostly about waiting until one nation is no longer allied with Castille/France/Austria so that I can do something. Or it´s a small nation just attacking me with France, Castille and Austria on their side at the same time. This game has made me hate Spanish and Portuguese people for real.
I'll stay in Asia or even Africa for now. I mean they have better and more fun trade goods than Europe does anyway.

Maybe you should try the Oman nation, they are in a pretty great spot for trade and have amazing trade related national ideas. When I played as them, I was able to easily conquer the other nations, and even fight off the massive Turkish/Mamluk alliance. (this was before I realized that since I had like +20 gold per month I could go over my force limit, too)
Although I had to ally with the ottomans to really attack the Mamluks, but after that I was able to give them a horrible rebel problem, and they had to release Syria and Ethiopia.

Vijayanagar is pretty fun, same with Ming.
Technology has also been given some attention, the number of options to research has been reduced but they take longer to research and are worth more.
That's too bad, personally I loved reading about every single little tech in HoI games.

If I may suggest, assuming that most people predominantly play from the very earliest start date, play around with the bookmarks. The game can end up being pretty significantly different depending on which ones you use and may possibly help in some of those cases. No solution to super France/Austria, of course, but it does shake things up.
