That happened in my Russia game. Oddly enough they ignored Africa.
Had a game where it was just Axis vs Comintern, almost lost when Moscow fell and the Soviets had 99% surrender but I managed to hold it with 6 tank divisions and punch a hole for them to go through

Fucking Jagiellon Dynasty.
This reminds me, I really hope there won't be any of that pseudo-Cyrillic bullshit in HoI4. That kind of shit belongs to cold war-era B-movies or something, not historical games.

Like "Poldid"? "Dustyaid"? What the fuck is this shit?
I thought it gave it character...
I didn't mind it. It was really useful in how you could instantly tell what alliances people were in.

I don't mind different fonts for the alliances, but the out of place Cyrillic characters really bug me.
I really like that feature, despite the fact that it looks somewhat silly to me because I know the basics of Russian. Because of that Poland sometimes appears to me as "POLDID".
Like I said, it adds character to those who are Communist, considering their leader is the Soviet Union, it makes sense for flavor.

A Pole rated me optimistic for 'Poland Stronk'? The Hussars are rolling in their graves!
:v:
(no offence meant just a joke)
Any of you guys having a problem launching HOI 3 and in the start-up window where it says 'select a mod to play' it's just a white empty box?
I put in a WW1 mod in the HOI 3 mod folder but it's not showing anything
Nevermind!
Here's some screenshots from my WW2 China playthrough of me ousting the Japanese and capturing their capital with M1 Garand-armed Chinese Paratroopers.

Kind of a gamey tactic imo seeing as how the AI mobilizes their entire army to mainland China and you just have to drop Paratroopers on Control Points, hoping they change how victory conditions work in HOI4.
[editline]29th January 2014[/editline]
Also you need to import the folder and .mod into the TFH's mod folder if it is for TFH

And I wouldn't exactly call it gamey, you'd still have to take the time and effort to eliminate their monstrous airforce before you can bother with air campaigns or even do paradrops unopposed.
In ck2 does anyone else only buy skirmish retinues? They're so cheap in cost and ret cap that i just spam them. In the actual battles its works out because I end up having so many archers that i annihilate the enemy morale in the skirmish phase, then finish them in battle phase.
I've had it backfire on me a few times, in which case it usually turns out to be very bad losses on my end, though this is mostly when I've been fighting 1:1 against huge muslim armies with tons of HAs
Seriously muslims can field such huge armies
But yeah they're mainly "hasten wars by taking enemy holdings really quickly" units for me, or putting down revolts and dealing with smaller enemy armies

Cataphracts all day every day.

Japan in my playthrough ended up advancing through the mainland China. Their farthest advance was right outside Nanjing and their furthest southern advance was to Hong Kong. They over-extended and left my major industrial centers alone. While they took the countryside I built up my army.

HQ units have no combat capabilities and garrisons on their production OOB's are laughable with 2 regiments per division. The air force won't stop paratroopers either, it's a common method to just game cp's and make them surrender and a reason why its banned in MP games and you can only have 1 paratrooper divison per 25 IC. Its definitely a problem, AUSTRALIA annexed Japan in one of my games by dropping 5 marine divisons on the mainland.
Also Japan doesn't follow historical order of battle or invasion plans in Vanilla, only mod I've seen them do it correctly is HPP and sometimes August Storm.
Not to say the way you play is wrong, just my 2 cents.

I pretty much always go 100% cultural retinues. I like when my retinue is an elite force of 10,000 housecarls.
But heavy infantry is practically worthless for assaulting holdings, and gets raped in the skirmish phase of any battle, plus they're expensive and you get fewer troops for your money's worth

I don't care. I want my retinue to be badass, not efficient.
[editline]30th January 2014[/editline]
If I wanted to min-max I would play something else than CK2.
In CK2 I'd just go as the English and spam longbow regiments.
Literally the best possible money/numbers ratio. I could field about 40,000 of them by the time I unified Britain in about 1140.

How come all my enemies always have the antichrist as their general with 5 star orange rectangles up the ass while my generals are all such retards that they all make Rick perry look like Cicero?

AI gets a bonus to their generals and you should adopt defensive ideas

Military Tradition. Unless you are in a nearly constant state of war, your military tradition drops at a extremely high rate, which gives you terrible generals. As Brandenburg(now Germany) I have 100 military tradition and it only drops at a rate of -1.00 a year due to prussian and military ideas. Most HRE countries get bonuses to military tradition I think so that is probably why you are having a problem with the generals.
Just don't play with lucky nations/AI bonuses on.
Just don't play with lucky nations/AI bonuses on.
Doesn't really make a difference when I don't, personally.
Just don't play with lucky nations/AI bonuses on.
Nation specific ideas are still a pain. Swedish, French and Prussian armies are incredible and Russian quantity is almost impossible to match.

or how my 20k army loses to their 7k when i have the same military technology as them, a better military setup, a general (which they dont)
or how the AI can siege 5 provinces without artillery with 2 cavalary before i siege one of theirs with 10k infantry and 4 artillery
or how AI is immune to attrition
or how sometimes AI armies just teleport right across the map
or how when AI is at war with nation X and is losing severely, then as soon as I declare war on said AI nation, they suddenly rush all their armies to me and get a white peace with the other nation
...
fuck the AI
