That's because crusades don't give CB, only bonuses against fighting that country for everyone who is your religion.
I feel like that's pretty dumb. I'm pretty sure the pope calling a crusade is a cause for war.
Sometimes I play a CK2 game where I only hold demesnes and hold no vassals. (Excepting baron level vassals). It's possible to do this with a couple of small kingdoms (for example, Ireland), plus it limits blobbing.
The main way to make money is to encourage urban development. Make cities and raise obligations, or make cities for your subjects and either have liegship over it or increase feudal taxes to a manageable level.
I never bother to touch fedual taxes at all. The negative modifier, from what I've observed, tends to nullify any real gain you get from upping up taxes. I leave them on default since I tend to make a larger return from developing lands that I own (sometimes vassals) than I would from increasing taxes more.

Feudal Taxes can potentially lead to a lot of income, but in my personal experience it's income that's soon lost when it comes to dealing with unhappy vassals. Rebellions will drain your coffers faster than low tax rates. [editline]21st March 2014[/editline] I'm not too concerned about the nerf to having a large demesne, I always saw hoarding all the land and turning yourself into a dictator a pretty cheaty way of playing the game anyway. [editline]21st March 2014[/editline] And it'll be nice not having to prioritise non-foreign teachers when educating my kids.
I've always found it strange how weak the Pope kind of is in-game. I mean, if the Byzantine Empire or the Abbasids launched an invasion of Rome, shouldn't most of the Western world come to his aid?
The Normans sacked Rome and nobody gave a shit.
Well they didn't conquer Rome, and they were Catholic. If some sultan invaded the peninsula, threw the Pope out and turned Saint Peter's Basilica into a mosque I'm pretty sure Christian kings would have given a shit. I don't think even the Normans could have gotten away with taking Rome for themselves.
In CK2+ all Catholics are allowed to call a war to restore the papacy, they could add something like that for CK2. I'm also considering where to play as when Rajas comes out, I'm honestly not that interested in the Indians and might just go for the other expanded east.

After that I'll go subjugate India and murder Gandhi's ancestors.
Mughals go go go

Christian heresy?). Then I want to do a Buddhist game and move west, like Arabia/Egypt/Abyssinia. Maybe I'll also play as a Greek and try to recreate Alexander's conquest and reform the Greco-Bactrian kingdom.

Going from the period of the Old Gods, at the very least, there were the Carolingians, Otto I, and even later the Angevins. The Byzantines might even count in a few cases. Also, if we are going by examples, a bunch of Maghribi Muslims sacked Rome including St. Peters in the mid-ninth century and no one did really did anything.
So Oliver Cromwell's rebellion succeeded in Great Britain, and Scotland wasn't having any of that shit, rebelled and has conquered most of GB. Though if Scotland some how annexed GB they'll just reform it under the Scottish Crown since all British nations can form GB.
so my first game as england in eu4 ~100 years in : vassalized portugal, naples (feeding), and have a PU over france and castille edit: forgot to mention I formed GB and have a full fed norway vassal ready to annex, and that I already annexed brittany + flanders of course this was super easy because I won 100 years war with loans. castille PU was all luck (they were originally my ally)
Current Progress: (pic incoming) [t]http://i.imgur.com/91wJw8G.png[/t] Morocco + Algiers are both all catholic. My current goal is to completely dominate the Mediterranean and become HRE emperor.
I'm planning to form the Angevin Empire in EU4 with the Veritas et Fortitudo mod (gives me a 1310 start with the Plantagenets ruling England), but France's army, despite its massively fractured form, is still massive. They have something like 45 regiments as well as the help of Auvergne and its other vassals. I've allied a few countries nearby but at the same time, if they occupy a province that I need to form the Empire with, I'm kinda fucked. Thoughts?
Playing big brother/protector to a pet country seems to be even more fun than expanding/developing your own country. Being the Romans and helping the Russians rise to power for example, or restoring the Byzantine Empire by feeding Ottoman provinces to Greece as the United Kingdom. It gets annoying in Crusader Kings 2 though, since you can't actually sell provinces to another country. Ends up being you beating Poland's enemies and poking them with a stick going, "c'mon, declare war on Pomerania. Do it."

That's the one thing I'd like to see being reworked when they make CK3.
Rajas is out tomorrow. Woo time for all mods to break.
And all saves as well.
Rajas is out tomorrow. Woo time for all mods to break.
REALLY TOMORROW?
Is it possible to become a merchant republic, without starting as one?
Is it possible to become a merchant republic, without starting as one?
There's a little guide on the wiki, don't know how accurate it is though. http://crusaderkings-two.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_Make_Your_Own_Merchant_Republic#Making_a_Republic_Without_Cheats
I think you should be allowed to switch between republics and monarchies in game with out really immersion breaking things like that. As a republic when in control you can choose to disband and seize assets of the rival houses, causing war to make yourself King. Other merchants would then flee and you'd never be able to go back to a republic. I don't really know what events could happen to switch from kingdom to republic. Perhaps you get heavily involved in coastal trade and merchants?
so with that whole possible independence movement within Venice, we may see a Supreme Doge once again. I cry tears of joy.

Wow, Rajas is only $15. Wasn't ToG more expensive?
No? Paradox expansions are 15.
Localization is missing for Missing DLC Tooltip :v: [t]http://puu.sh/7IZbF.jpg[/t] [editline]25th March 2014[/editline] So you can play as characters with the new religions if you don't have the DLC, Buddhist Roman empire go!
