Getting ready to start an Ultimate Victoria game, haven't decided as who or when yet.
Was considering UK from earliest possible start date but we'll see.

Yeah, that's definitely something you would expect Nazis to do.

But they are the British, while I was talking about Nazis who would send cripples to concentration camps, usually.

Blind battalion, cripple corps, legless life guard, armless armour. etc.

I was more referencing the fact that conscripting people into service no matter their general suitability/fitness wasn't something that only Germany did, although Germany did it a lot towards the end of the war.
also holy shit a 1604 start in Ultimate Victoria was a bad idea

The mod seems fairly unfinished for the most part. The government setup in the Eastern Bloc is totally bonkers.
I think in my 1604 start game I've managed to use up all the artillery in the world - no one has the sufficient tech for artillery factories yet and so I can't build any boats or artillery units.
Which is a bad thing as the UK
[editline]12th April 2014[/editline]
Do craftsmen build artillery? Or is my game fucked for the next 200 years?

Artillery usually comes slow for my game but eventually the market gets oversaturated.

Well it's not like only Germans can use it.
It said in the patch that they fixed the Muslim decadence straighten up but it still doesn't work for me

British home guard comes to mind.
EU4 too damn complex, i am used to Victoria 2, which is IMO the simplest.

what.
what
what.
what???
EU4 is like the least complex of every paradox game till now... Victoria 2 is one of the more complex ones.

Latest patch probably broke the SPQR achievement.
EU4 may not be very complex, but to me it feels a lot more unforgiving than EU3. I seem to be always low on money, buildings seem to be very expensive and due to the shortage of money, I have to cut down the size of my army, which is too small and weak to handle rebels (from just one province!) which reinforce a lot faster because I apparently am low on manpower. And then I need to hire mercenaries, which means I need to take a loan, which makes my financial problems even worse.
Question.
Are you playing as Poland?
Loans make Eu4 incredibly easy.
I typically make it so that like, I have client states. They share the burden and make it so you can divert your funds elsewhere and to your own army. As poland I'd make the commonwealth, then release lithuania or something else, give it some territories; etcetc.
I try and make federal kingdoms with different states based on ethnic backgrounds if its not immediate area. United baltic duchy, etcetc.
As sweden I release finland. etcetc.

You don't have to exactly paint the map ,but seriously have vassals and client states. It helps a lot.
Question.

Yes, I thought this would be a natural thing for me in my first playthrough.

Being the emperor as Austria and never reuniting the HRE but instead revoking the Privilegia and keeping all the little kingdoms as vassals really simplified things for me. You get to keep a larger army and you don't have to deal with border friction which would automatically lead to huge coalition wars otherwise.
You also don't get the diplomatic relationships penalty for having too many vassals that way too.

The reason I started playing this game was that it allows you to play as Lithuania just before the personal union happened. The nationalist in me started crying after I created the Commonwealth where Polish was not an accepted culture. Playing as Lithuania is a little bit more easy than Poland since you don't have to deal with Western Europe and your only priorities are stopping the Ottomans or stopping the creation of the Russian empire. You also get Kiev which is just completely overpowered and Lithuanian traditions make it really easy to stabilize your nation during the protestant movement (though you will have problems with religious unity from the start of the game). However, playing as Poland I would imagine that Lithuania would become a huge problem since Ukraine can become independent really fast and whatever gets left behind will be taken by the Russians.
[editline]13th April 2014[/editline]
Also you can try to ally Denmark from the start of the game and there's a chance you can inherit all of Scandinavia through royal marriages. Having Sweden as an ally is a great bonus until they break their union with Denmark.
Poland is just a really weird spot because of the way its situated.

Yeah, all stretchy and shit
So, I still havent find out how to recruit soldiers on EU4..
So, I still havent find out how to recruit soldiers on EU4..
That little red button under your nation's flag in the upper left corner should open the production interface where you can select what units or buildings you want to build and then you start clicking on the provinces where you want your items to be built.
You can also individually select a province and choose to build units/building or hire mercenaries directly from there but you'd have to select every province individually to build a large army fast, so this is not ideal.
If pressing the red button opens up a blank list, you might want to restart your game.
Heres my CK2 converted Jerusalem game. (Also had sunset invasion running)
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ij1JCYb.png[/img_thumb]
I had a Jerusalem game like that. I wanted to press into India but then I was told the expansion breaks saves so that ruined that plan and I had to delete the save.
It also reminds me of Kingdom Come.

Seriously you should all read this, it's honestly the greatest AAR that's ever been made. I even cried a little at the end.
I even cried a little at the end.
I skipped to the individual end chapters to see what happened, and rather than cry, I couldn't keep myself from laughing at the epilogue.

You can't truly appreciate it unless you read it all damn it.
Anyone have that AAR where its a guy who plays as Estonia and has like the good majority of the world declare war on him at the very start? ( I think it was a EU3 steppe wolf AAR)
