I found EUIII to be the simplest Paradox Grand Strategy I've played. Don't know what you people are talking about.
[QUOTE=Damian0358;40222765]With everyone talking about EU3, I think it's fitting to ask this. How do you even play EU3?[/QUOTE] Inflate economy [I]in a moderate manner[/I], use surplus to grind out colonial, structural, and military expansion, don't war France unless everyone is up for it, don't inherit countries bigger than your's, don't play anyone in America because in 99% of the cases it's a waste of time...

In EU3, I tried my luck as the Byzantine empire, I tried taking back Achea or whatever, suddenly I'm at war with almost all of Italy, I take Achea, but the Italians still keep fighting, Why? They have literally no reason to keep fighting let alone start in the first place.

Always get Military Drill first, quality over quantity. Get the highest possible inflation advisor possible and fetch the National Bank as your second NI. Tune your budget bar so its right under 0.01 minting, even in red. Stick with one RM at a time if you plan on claiming thrones. [B]Spam churches everywhere[/B], get that stability cost NI. Stick with balanced teching because the 1 - 2 focus advantage is obsolete by the 17th century. Cut your military expenses in half when you're not at war and don't expect to do so any time soon. Otherwise the AI will continue to crank out men and ships to throw at you. They don't care about inflation or shitting loans.
I don't know what patch of EU3 you're playing but churches are pretty much useless tbh It really depends on what nation you are, though. As italian nations (with high tax) you should probably invest in production buildings first, since manpower is decent, et cetera.

But personally I think early on and late game when you're a mid-large empire, it's important to keep a low stability in case of stab hits from events and such since iirc it has a impact on revolt risk and income. I'd say to still prioritize the other lvl 1 buildings over churches, but still build them whenever you get the chance though.
EU3 is so fucking simple. I was playing as the Dutch in the eighty years war, I gave up after the Spanish and Austrians kept on sending and sending more guys and I had no chance to gain any land, so I basically just gave them 25 gold and they accepted peace. I then proceeded to colonize and conquer the hell out of North America and Canada. I have a monopoly at most of the trade centers and I currently have over 2400 ducats. Profit of like 400 a year. [editline]9th April 2013[/editline] DUTCH NORTH AMERICA SHALL LIVE ON. [editline]9th April 2013[/editline] I'm having fun with this, but starting from any time after 1550 is a fucking pain. Unlike starting from the beginning, there's like no balance at all in Europe and it basically turns into DONT TOUCH ME SPAIN AUSTRIA HABSBURG.
[img_thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/846950070905315028/BA5B1CC143CFDBF3D5B2F640BFB7A100274881DD/[/img_thumb] Had probably one of the strangest games of CK2 I've ever played, the HRE actually did amazingly well early on as a heretical empire (Usually when a heretic gets the seat a civil war removes him), it basically destroyed Catholicism in central and eastern Europe and pushed France to the its coast. I decided to start as the lowly Basque, after managing to wipe away the Muslims in Spain, I turned my attention to freeing Rome of the German Schwein. I only went to claim Provence but the Emperor wasn't having any of my shit and sent his best doomstack against me. I had to clear out all of my treasury in order to battle him. I was expecting a holy war to reclaim the land in time, but a civil war broke out only months after the Emperor lost, ensuring me to Italy and a weak HRE to contend with if they did reform under new rule. Now it's completely fallen apart; so weak now that even the Danes have started picking at them.
For some reason, I can't the patch after getting the free Gamespy promotion. Everytime I try to start the installation for the expansion, it keeps saying I don't have access despite the fact I've already given myself full permission to do whatever the hell I want.
What level 6 variant of buildings do you guys tend to make in Eu3? I tend to go government for magistrates if I am a blobbing empire, and trade as a somewhat smaller country where expansion isn't a priority.
[QUOTE=VOSK;40219065]Kamakazie, can you post a world map of your HoI3 game please?[/QUOTE] [t]http://i.imgur.com/9dwrvlX.jpg[/t] And the more refined version. [t]http://i.imgur.com/SjN9xqL.jpg[/t] I didn't get around to modding the save yet. I'm going to unpuppet a bunch of nations and reshuffle their allegiance of some. Also I'm war with Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania, and Nationalist Spain after the USSR and UK respectively released them.

As long as I can pull in a significant fraction a year I'll move on to trade efficiency buildings. A dozen+ of them makes me king of trade. Then naval buildings, if I need more naval limits & shit. Army ones are avoid not worth it. Manpower typically is never a problem once you have level 6 buildings available. Finally I stack stock exchanges on all the rich provinces. Can't remember if the religion and administration buildings are different. If so, administration is first priority as it has a snowball effect.
[QUOTE=kamikaze470;40226624] stuff [/QUOTE] Are you planning on releasing West Germany and the DDR?
anyone getting horrible crashing issues with the latest prince and the thane patch? I'm crashing within a minute of starting a game.
[QUOTE=PopLot;40231107]anyone getting horrible crashing issues with the latest prince and the thane patch? Could be the memory leak issue we're waiting on Paradox to fix.
[QUOTE=VOSK;40230884]Are you planning on releasing West Germany and the DDR?[/QUOTE]I can't, in FTM or TFH they removed the option to release them. But I could do it like with Rep Spain, manually with the changeowner/changecontroller laboriously. Although I won't do that since I'm going to pull off Unthinkable so I'll be stuck starving to death if I removed that direct route to Paris.

Is there a way to get EU3 to play nice with dual monitors in fullscreen mode because it just hangs at startup.

At Midday I started an EU3 grand campaign as Sweden and suddenly it's 9 hours later, This game is really addictive once you get the hang of it.
[QUOTE=Tuskin;40236484]Get this [url]http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?586-August-Storm-Project[/url][/QUOTE]Neat, I'll probably use it for a next game since it probably won't be compatible with my vanilla save.
The Old Gods needs to come out soon

[QUOTE=RearAdmiral;40231193]Are you loading a saved game or does it happen when you start a new one as well? Could be the memory leak issue we're waiting on Paradox to fix.[/QUOTE] New Game. My old saves don't seem to work anymore : /

So I just tried my first game of Europa Universalis 3 which ended pretty poorly. I was Bohemia and so I thought it would be simple to declare war on some silly German state that no one cares about. However, my war created a butterfly effect of interventions and alliances that caused the entire Holy Roman Empire and Hungary to descend upon me with great wrath and fury. So yeah, now I'm scared of the game.

[QUOTE=Smooth Jazz;40261016]So I just tried my first game of Europa Universalis 3 which ended pretty poorly. [I]I was Bohemia[/I]...[/QUOTE] Oh god, that's hilarious. Bohemia is a joke in the Eu3 community. It appears to be a powerful giant but in reality it's made glass. Play a Newbie country. I recommend Portugal for learning basic colonial expansion and trade, and England for glorious war. You're an island so your threats are limited but your opportunity is limitless since you can expand anywhere with ease.

If you want to be part of the HRE and not german, play as Burgundy. They are monstrously powerful if managed right, and can (with a small bit of effort) tear France apart, then get to work on the rest of the HRE... or wherever you want! Once you've taken France as Burgundy, you're set for the rest of the game in all likelihood. If you don't know jack shit about the game, play as Castille or Portugal, they are so easy to play super well as.
[url=http://esm.knuddelwuddel.net/EK011.exe]Elder Kings 0.1.1. Patch is out[/url] [quote]Changelog [Added] Russian portraits for Reachmen (if you have Russian portraits DLC). [Added] More religion decisions for other religions (courtesy of DarkReborn). [Added] New traits (Virile, Rebellious, Disloyal, Lead from the Fore, Lead from the Rear) [Added] Female Mer portraits. [Added] 2 New events to Rally Rebels Marshal job action (the modifier currently has no effect, so there are now random events to give revolt risk). [Added] 2 New events to Survey Steward job action; Bandit Camp Discovered and Buried Treasure Discovered, both have a chance of giving money, while the Buried Treasure one also has a chance of giving a random artefact. [Added] New Retinue for the Khajiit (Anequinan and Pellitinian Cultures now get their own seperate Retinue). [Added] New CBs (Liberate Countrymen, "Honour War" for lack of a better name) [Added] New spells to the Spellbook (Heal, Grand Healing, Beautify, Harmony). [Added] Basic Dunmer House traits system (very quick sketchy work to ensure most Dunmer get their House Trait, let me know if it's causing issues). [Added] Arumba's GUI Tweak and Shortcuts mod. [Added] Several lore names to the lists. [Added] Reachman trait. [Added] Minor title Auto Assignment Decision. [Added] A "System" to try and make Mer realms a little less stable. Their long lifespans (and thus long reign durations) caused them to stack up +100 opinion, leading to far too much stability and steamrolling of other non-mer realms by the AI. AI Vassals of long reigning Mer will now get events reducing their opinion a little the longer the Mer reigns, hopefully reducing the long reign, but not eliminating it outright. [Tweak] Raht trait brought in line with Strong trait, and added to event weights. [Tweak] Decreased requirement for Marshal Councillor job from 15 Martial to 12 Martial (for non-Martial Educations; Martial educations can still always be Marshal). [Tweak] Changed Lead Troops into Battle Ambition to only be selectable by those able to lead an Army. [Tweak] Slightly reduced child mortality [Tweak] Independent Rulers can be appointed as Army Leaders even if they don't meet the "Marshal" conditions (you can therefore always appoint your own ruler as the leader of an army). [Tweak] Removed some of the Dunmer House artefacts held at game start, no single Dunmer now holds more than one artefact. [Tweak] A character can only create 1 Knightly Order in their life time. [Tweak] Merged Martial triggered mods into Martial stat. [Tweak] Merged AI and player minor title triggered mods. [Tweak]Cultural combat tactics so that at least all the Tamriel races have one unique combat tactic [Tweak]Agile now affects chance of death, chance of wounding, and chance of serious head injury [Tweak]If you have too many lifestyles (only doable with ruler designer) than you will lose all your lifestyles [Tweak] Reduced Swordmaster martial buff to +1 martial. [Tweak] Fertility in some races (primarily Mer) [Tweak] Becoming Craven battle event has been reduced in frequency, now your Martial and education directly affect it (higher martial and higher education are more unlikely to get it, but only the Martial orientated educations). [Tweak] Maimed/Wounded/Death battle event weights have been tweaked to reduce frequency based on martial skill and various traits. [Tweak] Altered Interracial marriage maintenance event to be low MTTH rather than an on_action yearly event. [Tweak] Hid some traits from ruler designer. [Tweak] Added checks to minor titles candidate decision so children will no longer appear in the list. [Tweak] Buffed Tend Wounded job action. [Tweak] Reduced Argonian fertility buff (due to decreased child mortality with the removal of VIET childbirth death events). [Tweak] Restored vanilla movement speed (it was 1/3 slower than vanilla, now it's the same). [Tweak] Readded the "attribute = learning" line to the Court Wizard. For some reason defying logic, this actually causes the Cout Wizard to rename itself to High Priest, it's an issue in base CK2, not something I can fix (so let me know if you'd rather have the number displayed and x2 learning bonus, of if you'd rather have the Court Wizard called Court Wizard). [Tweak] CBs have been scaled back to vanilla settings and rewritten. [Tweak] Increased Mercenary unit sizes. [Tweak] Reduced "Improve X" ambitions back down to 10. [Tweak] Changed some minor titles so they can be accessed at a lower rank (which was always the intention). [Tweak] Changed the Imperial Commune's mercenary vassal from Legion Cyrodiil to the Imperial Knights. [Tweak] "Blind" (congenital blindness trait) now has a small health malus. [Tweak] Thu'um decision temporarily disabled until the event chain is completed. [Fix] Prevented being able to select a start date earlier than 3370 (this was never intended). [Fix] Restored Magicka Potions to their original position in the Spellbook (they're no longer nested under Fortify Spells). [Fix] Immortals and Briarhearts getting Incapable and Infirm traits from normal health events based on age. They can still gain Incapable or Infirm via assassination attempts, battles and other "unnatural" events. [Fix] Immortals and related trait-Characters should no longer recieve the Old Age and similar modifiers. [Fix] Hundreds of localisation fixes. [Fix] Become Great General Ambition. [Fix] Broken Necromancer events. [Fix] Several duplicate ID errors. [Fix] Error in Portraits.gfx causing CTD. [Fix] Readded a missing event from the Spymaster's Build Spy Network. [Fix] Religious heads giving you jip for heretics when you're not even part of their faith. [Fix] Dead children getting pet cats (although, cats *were* the guardians of the souls of the dead :P) [Fix] Several duplicate Baronies removed. [Fix] When a character is able to choose another child's education path other than their own, the decision wasn't flagged as "important", and thus no one knew it was there. [Fix] Numerous education system bugs. [Fix] Duplicate trait (Pilgrim) removed. [Fix] Pregnancy events should no longer allow inter-racially incompatibles or infertiles to breed. [Fix] Some unit positions have been fixed. [Fix] Battle event for veteran trait not functioning properly. [Fix] Granting Assassin titles and demoting shouldn't be possible at the same time. [Fix] Wrong terrain types (if you spot anymore you think are wrong let us know). [Fix] Dozens of other minor bug fixes. [Removed] VIET Childbirth death events. [Removed] Telvanni Relation System due to severe lag issues. [Removed] (actually disabled) new crown laws, unfortunately their modifiers don't work (support for custom laws and other mechanics is incredibly low in CK2 *rant rant*). Note: The vanilla issue of eventual crash is still a problem. Downgrading to 1.091 and applying the old 4GB fix is a potential solution, however the mod has not been downgraded to be compatible, so you may run into some other issues, such as events or modifiers not functioning correctly. Also, I cocked up and put 0.1.2 in the installer, so...ignore the version number, the *next* one is going to be 0.1.2 (when installed it should say 0.1.1 in the launcher).[/quote]
