Halp playing hearts of iron 3 as France with black ice mod, decided to not lose France and see what happens, Italy never joined the axis and as Germany attacked poland the allies joined in, and then the soviet union attacked Poland too so now the allies are at war with the soviet union and the axis. I have no fucking clue what is going on. [editline]29th June 2014[/editline] Come to think of it Russia never attacked Finland either. Wait, got truce with the soviet union now.

Wait, got truce with the soviet union now.
You're stuck in a three-way. Don't bother with the USSR until they make a land border with you and instead keep applying pressure to Germany. Invade them through the Low Countries if you can spare the resources to flank them. It's also a good idea to not conquer Germany, but rather install a loyal government that'd attach it's armed forces into the Allies, making the fight against Russia easier. Alternatively, provided you're ambitious enough, you can hold the line and wait for the Eastern Front to fold over, then see if you can cut off whatever army is leading the way by landing in Poland. If Hungary, or even better Czechoslovakia are still existing it makes it easier to do the work as you've got less ground to cover. Usually it might be a more extreme thing to attempt with Russia as their divisions eat up supplies too quickly, but also come in really huge numbers, so they might overwhelm the French forces landing there.
Is there any sort of mod that makes the AI in Darkest Hour not go completely batshit when history goes a bit crazy? I'm playing the Grand Campaign mod and World War I ended in a draw in like a year or two, so both Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire are alive and kicking. Somehow this fucked everything up. As Japan, I'm still the only nation in the world who's built carriers in 1947 - everybody in the world's still focused on big-gun fleets. The Triple Entente is also still around. The USA is super fucked up for some reason as well. William McKinley's the president again somehow, and they never built up much of anything after the 20s, apart from a few armor divisions. Even as I throw ~100 infantry divisions into an invasion of North America (all of it), they're still "focused on Province Improvements". I'd really like them to stop building the Interstate System and start fighting me. I've pushed them past the Rockies by this point and it's really boring, especially since Germany and Russia are still at peace after Germany steamrolled France. Austria-Hungary also only has 11 infantry divisions, despite having 150+ IC and some Manpower left over. Also, is there some sort of random scenario generator for DH?
What do I lose besides retinues when I disable Legacy of Rome?
What do I lose besides retinues when I disable Legacy of Rome?
Blinding and castration which are restricted to ERE characters I think.
What do I lose besides retinues when I disable Legacy of Rome?
You lose the glory of Rome.
there are a couple of WW1 mods for HOI3, cant remember which i tried but it seemed ok
And all the new Roman Empire events & related traits. Also it's not ERE characters, it's Greek and Georgian characters.
Which really annoys me. How am I supposed to replicate Hungarian medieval history without pouring hot lead into people's ears or blinding them as part of dynastic struggles.
So is Hearts of Iron 3 worth getting at this point with HoI4 announced?
So is Hearts of Iron 3 worth getting at this point with HoI4 announced?
It'll be at least a year until it's released, and even longer until all the patches/DLCs/mods are released to make the game reach its full potential. So I would say Hearts of Iron 3 is definitely worth getting. Besides, you might end up liking HoI3 more than HoI4. I know I like EU3 more than EU4 but that's just me.

What's the best character to play for someone new to CK2? A count, duke, king? And which country is the best place start?
What's the best character to play for someone new to CK2? A count, duke, king? And which country is the best place start?
Ireland as the duke of Munster is your best bet seeing as it's the unofficial tutorial island and that specific duke has two provinces already.
What's the best character to play for someone new to CK2? A count, duke, king? And which country is the best place start?
Byzantine Emperor in 867. Lots of room to expand against weak enemies, powerful country, first war requires you to learn boat mechanics, Emperor is youngish with very young kids, etc. Also Ireland in 1066, because Tutorial Island.
I just assassinated my 1 year old cousin because the queen (my aunt) put me in prison and made my cousin her heir. I SHALL BE THE HEIR.
whats a good viking start to ck2? preferably not too hard at the start
I just assassinated my 1 year old cousin because the queen (my aunt) put me in prison and made my cousin her heir. I SHALL BE THE HEIR.
I always wondered why you could plot to assassinate cousins but not, say, your sons and daughters. It's annoying to have a deadbeat son and no clean way to get rid of him. [editline]30th June 2014[/editline]
whats a good viking start to ck2? preferably not too hard at the start
Play the guy that forms Sweden. He's easy as shit.
tried halfdan whiteshirt, took Northumberland then died in a dual 3 years in
I always wondered why you could plot to assassinate cousins but not, say, your sons and daughters.
Game balance and what not, still wish you could plot against bastards though. You can use the assasinate button against your children if that's any consolation, you can place your spymaster in their location to build a spy network to increase the chance of assassination.
This is from the same multiplayer game, now called "So long Washington, or how we decided to disregard the motherland and conquer the US" [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13459825/SoLongMotherland.png[/t]
Victoria Collection is on sale on GMG. I know it's right after the Summer Sale had ended, but the price is better.
new "very big" CK2 expansion to be announced at gamescom http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?785385-Do-we-even-really-know-if-there-ll-be-another-DLC&p=17652431&viewfull=1#post17652431

Any ideas on what it might be?

I sure hope they're wrong, but, knowing Paradox, they'll probably jump to pleasing the forums just like with 867 and India. Not that there is anything wrong with that, considering that it means they continuously listen to player suggestions, but the more they do it the more 'arcadey' unmodded CKII ends up feeling in my opinion. Here's hoping for a proper Muslim revamp, anyhow.
Maybe even as far back as the rise of islam perhaps? Probably not though, I can't wait to see what it is. Theocracies?
Maybe even as far back as the rise of islam perhaps? Probably not though, I can't wait to see what it is. Theocracies?
my guess is theocracies
iirc the devs mentioned that future DLC would be more storytelling-focused so I don't think it will be China (well unless they changed their minds). I hope it's a DLC that expands the core mechanics; for example I'd really like to see deeper interactions between characters, especially when it comes to plotting. I think some kind of massive rework of the core stuff would qualify as a "very big" expansion.
I've said it before but I really wish they'd revamp crusades As it is a bunch of Europeans flail around in the desert and die to Fatimid or Ayyubid death stacks. There's no mustering at Constantinople or securing supply lines or anything. Plus all the Irish idiots who join then sit around in their shit landlocked counties and do nothing

I really hate crusades for Andalusia btw. Because there's always centuries of intense tug of war between Christians and Muslims, but suddenly 30'000 knights come in and take everything at once.
