One of the devs blew up at people criticizing his multiplayer focus and the AI in singleplayer, and quote:
I don't give a fuck about the AI in this issue.. Its a matter of problem for the players vs players..
Welp the devs abandoned the singleplayer game for the multi, time to uninstall EUIV and go back EUIII. EDIT* Heres the link if curious: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?789400-Basis-for-Truce-Time&p=17730111&viewfull=1#post17730111 EDIT** Oh shit its even worse than I thought

I'm not a fan of his initial wording, but I see where's he's coming from in terms of balancing thing. that being said 15 years is a bit too long for a lot of nations.
I think that 15 year truces are not a bad idea for some cases. I was playing and there was a coalition against me and every time the truce was over they'd attack and since the truce was short there was no time to repair relations resulting in a vicious cycle
I was reading on the Paradox forums, and someone had a good idea to have it scale based upon nation size, army size, navy size, that sort of thing. If done well that would be a great feature.
He said ck2/eu4. And the next expansion they're announcing is for CK2 at Gamescom next month.
He said it was larger than anything they'd done for either game, but he was answering a question about EU4.

I guess it'd make sense that smaller factions and nations would be embroiled in more wars, though it's not without doubt that the big fish of Europe had a reputation for triggering too many sequential conflicts, even if they were dragged into them via third party.

I'd have to go back and find the post, but it made a lot of sense.
I would really like a big expansion for EU4... the small dlcs are just annoying and nothing I think are worth buying. If they could release expansions like divine wind for EU4, I'd buy that shit

If they could release expansions like divine wind for EU4, I'd buy that shit
Sadly the age of expansion packs are past, Paradox has my respect for being one of the last companies to release actual expansions, but sadly starting with CK2 they are going mainstream with the occasional decent dlc and tons of cosmetics.
The one nice thing about Res Publica is that it makes Netherlands more fun to play... with fun events that spawn 50 rebels in your capital or kill off your 6 4 6 ruler, which I read as 5 and thought "oh I can handle this" then I noticed that it said 50 and had to reload the latest autosave.
Christ I've been playing Paradox games for awhile, but what happened to Johann? I don't remember the devs being so hostile, or hell, aggressive towards complaints.
I remember when he used to update EU2 in his spare time, unpaid.
Christ I've been playing Paradox games for awhile, but what happened to Johann? I don't remember the devs being so hostile, or hell, aggressive towards complaints.
Paradox is one of those devs who actively post on the forums and occasionally there's a dev makes a hiccup and says something they shouldn't but that's alright in my book. Whats different this time is that Johann has decided to take EUIV in a direction a majority of players don't like because he decided multiplayer was the most important component of the game now (despite multiplayers being ~15% of the total player base) and theres been a sort of push and pull between the fans and devs over every single tweak. The whole argument isn't only about 15 year truces, that's just the straw that broke the camels back and Johann couldn't take the criticism anymore. Basically they are taking the strategy out of the strategy game by nerfing/blocking/making impossible different expansion strageties so that you are forced to take the whole fabricate claims/war/optionally get a massive coalition against you/wait for 15 years for truces to end. They are doing all this for mutliplayer with little to no regard to how it effects the singleplayer that holds 80% of their player-base so this explosion was bound to happen at some point.
Does anyone know if theres a console command that invites a noble to court? I'm tired of paying 500 gold every time i do it.

I don't think I've played long enough games to see it actually become the Mongol Empire. Any of you read AARs? Post your favorite.

Paradox-Hohenzollern Where Germany goes from CK1 to HOI2, and ends with a worldwar between the democratic Muslim America, the monarchic German alliance with the fascist New England and a Communist Roman Empire. On the side are other countries like a constantly collapsing French empire and a Byzantine India who plots for their return. Kingdom Come Where Jerusalem struggles from the middle ages to the modern day. A bit more serious than the other LP, and probably the most deep and depressing ending out of any Paradox AAR.
This is probably my favorite AAR.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/Europe_geological_map-en.jpg You don't realize how much geography affects history until you see a map like this. It's not a wonder why Brittany would have a different culture than the rest of France... Cornwall, Wales and Scotland to the UK, etc Other points of interest: Historical Romanian lands are the lowlands, without the older mountainous, areas. Shape of Bavaria, Czech, Milan, compared to their surroundings... Why the Dutch gained independence a few hundred years before the Belgians, etc National borders become less arbitrary as well.
and interestingly enough geography of a nation also often determines the "personality" of the nation in question, and also the population like countries with very flat and open terrain have more expansionistic policies for example, while mountanous countries are more defensive or neutral or how the same steppe areas in russia were conquered like a million times by different groups, basically creating the same boundries of the former population

Post your favorite.
Surprised no one mentioned Subcontinental Subtleties. Also that one guy on SA who did a AAR of Steppe Wolf and other mods, was really funny but you can't view it anymore.
Okay let's talk about the features of HOI IV. (?) No, seriously, does anyone else agrees that the system developed for air warfare is superb and a step forward in the right direction? It mixes micro and macro in a very good way. I wonder how they will do land warfare because I didn't see any kind of province indicator in the map picture.
I don't think I've played long enough games to see it actually become the Mongol Empire. Any of you read AARs? Post your favorite.
not really AAR but I love this guy http://www.youtube.com/user/DDRJake he's a magician
not really AAR but I love this guy http://www.youtube.com/user/DDRJake he's a magician
He is great, unfortunately the whole paradox going crazy on tweaks began when he managed to do that, they wanted to make sure no one can do that again and began to see even minor things as exploits to be crushed or removed
I got bored modding Victoria 2 and watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail again so I said why the hell not:
