What we know about the Charlemagne Expansion right now
I wonder what "Customizable Kingdoms and Empires" means.

got myself in an issue in EU4
im Castile, allied England and Burgundy (which is now gone), and took Granada
the year is 1467 and I rival both Aragon and Portugal, who are allied
i want to war either of them but then the other tries getting me and my force limit + army just doesn't allow for me to get them successfully
what do i do so i can actually win this
Looks like we got ourselves some Charlie Mang goin' on with CK2.
Fan-fuckin'-tastic, I was honestly waiting for this! I really hope they have a tonne of new cultural decisions, being that they've added Saxon, Visigothic, Lombard, etc.
How is this dumb, I'm praising it, I'm legit excited.
I've been waiting for a Charlemagne-related expansion/update for a while.

Oh man, ohhh man, I wonder if this will bring various events to other empires.
I did find it kind of odd how once you reached Imperial status, that you had very, well, "kingly" events and decisions.
I hope Charlemagne includes more than a new start date, the other stuff they listed seems really minor, it doesn't sound worth $20 at all.
[editline]15th August 2014[/editline]
Also they messed up the new cultures, Visigoths were not the majority anywhere in Iberia, they didn't even make up 5% of the population, having the whole peninsula be culturally Visigoth makes no sense.
The simultaneous existence of German and Saxon (mainland) cultures is incredibly confusing, most of Italy being Germanic-Lombard is also kind of odd.
Those might be simply placeholder, to show off the new borders/cultures.

I personally don't think CK2 represents the early eras well at all, going back even further only adds onto the problems. Paradox isn't that great at quality control either. There's been plenty of bugs that still haven't been fixed just from Rajas of Indias; multiple cultures and religions that were added that they haven't even properly utilized for the converter to EU4, and the blob balance for AI Empires that would exist at the time would probably be awful. See Byzantium being incapable of dying from 867 unless the player influences it somehow. I can't imagine how bad the Abbasid's are going to be, and migration of certain peoples will either be too forced to bullshit levels (Hungarian deathstacks), or will never happen (Normans into England, or Normans even starting at all).
So I decided to try CK2 again after giving up on it immediately the first time I had tried it. I wanted to take it seriously this time so I went through all the tutorials, I started a new game in the GoT mod as Robb Stark. I immediately raised a ton of levies, led my gigantic army to the castle just next to Winterfell which for some reason wasn't loyal to me and besieged it. After a moment, I get the siege victory popup and then it says Robb Start has been taken prisoner and I lost the war. What the fuck happened?

If you get imprisoned by the person you're at war with they get 100% warscore. Also in the game of thrones mod its really easy to take some one prisoner by winning a siege on a holding that they're actively defending. I think the choices are to imprison just the holder, him and his entire family, or just setting them free. So you have to be sure your ruler is actually leading armies and not just sitting at home defending/ make sure you dont lose sieges.

And why are the islands so huge ?
I know it's an "alpha" but if Paradox are going to release screenshots at least make the basic things right. I am worried that at launch this game will be the same disaster that HoI3 was and will reuquire multiple expansions to become good.

I am excited.
Have recently started playing Knights of Honor again, it's such an underrated gem. Gameplay is just so smooth and great. Unfortunately I can't get it into widescreen, nevertheless I'm conquering europe as Ireland. Took all the british isles and started conquering parts of france and spain.
I wonder how many people even played that game.

oh fuck
on the other hand, charlemagne looks nice, although it would probably fuck up the blobbing even more with an earlier start date
bohemia in india anyone?

Probably more recognizable not exactly wrong or something that can't be modded out.
this shouldn't be the case, players shouldn't have to navigate to the forums for player-made fixes that they have to apply themselves
paradox should get this one right, like they did with CK2 and EU4
bohemia in india anyone?
Already p. easy to do in EUIV by the looks of it, so.
Charlemange looks cool, but I was hoping as an added bonus due to the steep price they would add in all start dates from 768 to 1066, like u can use the timer.
I personally don't think CK2 represents the early eras well at all, going back even further only adds onto the problems. Paradox isn't that great at quality control either. Yep. They've already proven with the Old Gods and Rajas that they can't justifiably manage properly integrating these massive changes with the bulk of the game. Not to mention how poorly thought out the historic aspect of those expansions were, particularly Rajas. Charlemagne is simply giving more reasons not to change the start time anywhere earlier than the end of the eleventh century.
And here I was hoping that they would actually do something about the last two centuries of currently playable game time that is, as it stands, exactly the same as the ninth century. Since Paradox is just pandering to the loudest voices on the forums anyway, I guess we should expect to see Norse Chinas next year.
"Napoleonic Era: Fight for or against the revolution and create entirely new custom clientcountries on the map from your conquests."
Probably going to be modified Colonial nations :P

The 'Custom kingdoms and empires" feature for CK2 is the ability to take your lower title and turn it into a Kingdom or Empire instead of having to use one of the pre-made ones

Flag Customization will probably be like Coat of Arms customization, a bunch of pre-set pieces and some colours.

Here is the full discription of the CK2 DLC
Crusader Kings II: Charlemagne is the seventh expansion for the much praised strategy/RPG Crusader Kings II and introduces the gamer to an absorbing story of conquests of Charlemagne.
This expansion moves the game back almost a 100 years to 769 AD and will offer a unique new story driven narrative about the rise of Charlemagne and The Holy Roman Empire. It’s more of what you’ve come to know and love from Paradox Development Studios.
Crusader Kings II explores one of the defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by the masters of Strategy where medieval times is brought to life in this epic game of knights, schemes, and thrones...
Main features:
New Earlier bookmark, 769, almost 100 more years of Crusader Kings II
Special story event series for Charlemagne
Annual Chronicle in the style of the Saxon chronicle
Custom Kingdoms and Empires, create a new title from a lower-tier title, can customize flag and name.
Dozens of new cultures.
Brand new system for climate and seasonal transitions.
Regency overhaul
I like all the little additions in Charlemagne a lot more than the actual idea. Still no crusade reworking though, oh well. And I guess the whole controlled sallies are just for EUIV? Which sucks because the random automated ones in CKII are more annoying than useful.
Wasn't something like that in already?
No, not at all.
The customization DLC you could change the name of an existing Duchy/Country/Kingdom/Empire. But you couldn't create a whole new one from a lower title, and you couldn't change the flag.
There are some mods/programs out there that would make new tags for lower titles to become one higher.

Oh, because you start out with a shitload of territory in the Riverlands and it all gets shat on right off the bat. I ignored it and just built up a big army in the North. I got captured right after a victory though, not a siege. That's a silly mechanic.

Unless you directly owned something in the Riverlands that was captured that's not it. You only defend your own holdings in sieges, not your vassals'. I.E. if your enemy besieges Pinkmaiden then Clement Piper will lead the siege defense, and when the siege ends he would likely be imprisoned by the enemy.
Honestly sounds like either you let the warscore get to -100 while hanging out in the NOrth, which is an instant loss I believe, or it just fucked up
Man I keep having the weirdest Alt-history games in August Storm. Spain and Germany for example sandwiched France in 40. I'm abit confused as to why Spain joined the Axis as well, they usually only do if Gibraltar is secured by Axis. (Which the british did invade through but quickly got repulsed after France fell)
[t]http://puu.sh/aUlw2/c3245b275d.jpg[/t]
Japan is also steamrolling China somehow, it fell in late 40.

Bit more info on the features for the Charlemagne DLC. I may still be against the idea of a timeline extension, but I like the sound of what they're doing so far, mechanics-wise. I'm particularly in love with the idea of having your vassals and crown laws being more dynamic and requiring far more care for larger realms.
A new limit, much like the current demesne limit, will be imposed upon rulers with the introduction of the Charlemagne DLC. This limit does exactly what it suggests: it imposes a soft-cap on the number of independent vassals you can have in your realm before you start taking penalties. To offset this, you will be encouraged to hand out more duchy titles, and perhaps even kingdoms, as your empire becomes too large for you to manage each vassal yourself.
FUCK
[editline]16th August 2014[/editline]
I just want to know how much of a soft-cap and how big the penalties might be. I try to play by a strict 1 ruler per title rule so this might be a big game changer for me.
I like the idea of a vassal cap. It seems that Paradox are slowly trying to make CK2 somewhat challenging and I'm ok with that.
Because really once you start snowballing (aka early game) everything is just piss easy unless you purposely play suboptimally.

When I played last the Japs got through about half of the USSR before they met any serious resistance. Despite fighting a mostly united Europe the Russkies managed to last until 1948 before they finally lost the great war of attrition. Of course I probably could have beaten them earlier if it weren't for my AI allies being retarded and failing to make the most of the opportunities I presented for them.
Oh my fucking god it crashed when I saved and corrupted my game.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
That game was unique, of fucking course this happens to me.
