I can't seem to find a link to /gsg/ mod on the /vg/ OP, was it renamed?
They stopped supporting it IIRC
They stopped supporting it IIRC
Renamed it too I think, I remember there being some drama.
Played a bit in HoD.... I forgot how the fucked up colonizing if you are a smaller nation(even more if you are playing as Netherlands).
Any HoD mods that remove the colonial point system?
Renamed it too I think, I remember there being some drama.
It's all because they found out the modder was a redditor. I believe that's all there is to it.
So if that is unavailable, then I ask again: What is the best AVAILABLE mod besides NNM and PDM, because nnm is too simple and pdm is too easy.
EUIV wars are so much longer than CKII wars
It's so hard to increase warscore to any sort of significant level if you're fighting any country with more than a few provinces. Anyone have some tips for winning wars faster than 10 years?

If you're fighting with superior forces, then getting the wargoal out of the way and carpet sieging generally gets the job done in ~5 years for me.

I honestly don't know of any.
Really, the best way to play is either /gsg/ mod (unofficial versions are still being made and released, just google it to find them) or NNM.
I then usually set the infamy cost of different peace demands to be lower to create a bit blobbier of a game, since until Great Wars the map changes very little in vanilla.

"Liberation of Paris from Greece" :v:

It's RandomHOI. Not the worst map I've seen show up, either.
And speaking of RandomHOI, I've yet to figure out how to fix the problems regarding unit overproduction for NPCs.
I liked the map personally. My second generated map, and the borders are really convincing to some extent. There are some crazy stuff with the islands though, I control the main islands but each of the hebrides, man and orkney are owned by another country, and I havent got a single core on them.
What overproduction are you talking about? Is it about the lag?
Further into the game you might notice countries with low IC lining way too many doomstacks on their borders, even if they all mostly have subpar tech.
Problem with randomHoi for me, it crashes when it becoms a bit late.
Am I the only one that thinks that EU4 is a complete shit game? During peace, the game is about preparing to go to war, and during war, it's just clicking locations with excruciatingly long battles... Looks like EU4 is only about domination, here's something I made related to the new "diplomatic" changes in Art of War, which will totally give us more things to do in peacetime.

I don't know about it being a complete piece of shit, but it certainly holds my attention far less than CK2 (and about the same as HOI3).
Ultimately, I don't give a shit about world conquest, or about war, I just want to manage my realm/country. EU4 seems to make all the country managing entirely dependent on timers ticking down, and that just results in boredom. At least with CK2, you can toss about with events, which breaks the monotony up somewhat.
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
It actually makes me feel pretty sad that I paid more for EU4 than I did for CK2, though I didn't drop more than a tenner on either.
Try Victoria 2
Even ck2 is about blobbing more or less when compared to vic2
Vicky has a pretty solid reputation for being hard to get into, doesn't it? All Paradox games do, but Vicky especially.
I'll look into it, though. Does it have anywhere near the same level of character interaction as CK2?

That's a bit of a shame, but you can't have everything. I'll keep an eye out for a cheap steam key.

I got Victoria 2 to play with some friends and I couldn't get into it as much as I do with Hearts of Iron.
Also has anybody tried to this mod for Darkest Hour? It connects the WWI scenario to the 1933 Grand Campaign and allows you to go all the way to 1991, I got it last night and had a rather boring game as the Russian Empire after inevitably preventing World War I from happening by not supporting Serbia when Austria-Hungary gave it the Ultimatum.
There is a new version of it coming out tomorrow and it'll let you start in 1900.
I think focusing on too big of a time frame makes the game quiet dull, how are you gonna entertain the player that long in a game based around warfare? Peace time isn't modeled very well in HOI's
If only we had EvW huh?

I spent the peacetime building up my industrial capacity, infrastructure, and updating tech before I gave up. When I stopped World War I from happening, I thought I was only delaying it because I thought there would be another event that would start it in the future when I would be much better prepared for it.
Plus you can always use the Extremely Fast Speed to speed through peacetime until you decide to start a war.
Victoria 1 Revolutions with VIP is the ultimate country micro management game...if you do things right you can industrialize africa in 2 years...

The only downside for that mod is it stops stimulating stuff if the Central powers win after WW1 but I might be wrong since I haven't exactly played that far in a AAR game.

1 Second = 1 Hour
1 Second in every other Paradox game = 1 Day
Correct me if I'm wrong but (I'm horrible at math)
365 x 24 = 8760 * 36 / 60 / 60 = 87.6 Hours
Thats without pausing how long you'd have to run at max speed (again correct me if I am wrong Math is not my strong suit), not including pausing and dealing with economy trades/tech/production/infrastructure construction JUST to 36 from 1900. From a game design standpoint its really not that great, I'd love to have a HOI game with indepth diplomacy and actual politics but it's just not made to handle it. It is a wargame set during the path to WW2 after all.
Max speed isn't one day per second, it's a lot faster.
Technically every day/hour is a sort of round or turn, rather than time.
speed also depends on your specs, if your computer can't handle it max speed could be slower.
[SP]Why is there such an event anyway[/SP]
The interesting part is, I captured rotterdam, portugal recaptured and I captured again. It fired on the second time.
It's there as a booster event for major battles. Recreating them on the battlefield gives you a choice to get a different type of bonus.
Itd be better if it was dynamic like the loss of pride of the fleet
There is actually an event which does that, factoring in the contrast in unit numbers as well as the amount of casualties. If there's a major swing to one faction in the battle, they get a glorious victory event, and the losers get a terrible defeat event.
For example, when a single infantry division in an HPP game I used to partake in fought off an entire corps of British Heavy Armor divisions in a swampland, the casualties on the British side were so off the scale that it made the event fire.
