For a second I thought your map was messed up and had a skybox texture, but nope, that's just Scandinavia.

aaaa what the hell are the tech table keys in eu4 goddamit
My converter for EU4 -> Vic2 all of sudden refuses to convert
could someone try to convert my save?
http://speedy.sh/C83fg/burgundy.eu4
its not a CK2 save, and it should be converted to HOD, or HOD-NNM if you have that version of the converter

Is there a joke in the comic that I'm missing?
I have to say I like the idea of a vassal limit - keeping countless vassals at count level always seemed a little cheaty to me.

Better regency and vassal limit. Realism is always welcome.
Aaand viceroyalty. Finally a proper way to simulate some muslim realms, like the Timar system.
I'm interested to see if they use the vice-royalty system to change up a few things about the Byzantine Empire.
Specifically, prior to the pronoia land reforms started (I believe) by Alexios, the Byzantines operated under the strict belief that "just as there is one God in Heaven, there should be one Steward of his Earthly people" (One Emperor, One Empire.) Partially because of this, and partially because the Eastern Empire never truly fell when the Western Empire did, Byzantium never had dukes, counts or kings as we know them.
Instead (and this was in effect even during the historical events portrayed in the Charlemagne DLC) the Byzantines had replaced the concept of small provinces, something initially done by Diocletian, with the Theme system. Themata were large provinces (think duchy/kingdom sized) controlled by emperor-appointed generals (Strategoi) who ruled both the civilian and military aspects of their Theme. This restructuring of the Imperial administration was done in the face of incessant Arab raids into Byzantine lands, which required strategoi to have the authority to raise troops and coordinate defenses before an answer could be given from Constantinople on what they could do.
Of course there were positions like the kommerkiarioi and logothetes (the former oversaw taxation and the latter bureaucracy) but they would at best be Counts or Mayors.
In short, if Paradox wanted to best reflect history the Byzantine Empire from 800-1204 (my understanding of the bureaucracy gets a little fuzzy following the Sack) would operate with the Basileus controlling every duchy title and giving them out as "vice-royalties" (or in this case, Themata) to Strategoi.
honestly they're just making it easier and easier to manage Byzantines

Byzantines never fall in my games anymore unless you intervene
[editline]2nd October 2014[/editline]
Like, they can only die by player's hand
I should imagine making someone a viceroy comes with some pretty hefty penalties, maybe as per a relations hit or something similar to the intrigue bonus against you your spymaster gets. They are, after all, pretty much in control of everything you theoretically own in a certain area.
Finished a Victoria 2 Germany game.

And this is the battle where my guys were outnumbered 1:4 for a long ass time(France didn't help for some reason), although the british had no arty and my infantry were teched ahead with airplanes.

Dismantled both Britannia and Russia in a great war that lasted 6 years(stupid large russian plains). although I didnt even have to mobilize.
Fun as hell though but a bit easy due to the fact that germany has alot of researchpoints. Played using the /gsg/ mod.
Paradox Sale on
http://store.steampowered.com/sale/paradoxweekend2014
[editline]2nd October 2014[/editline]
CK2 will have a free weekend.. this weekend.
I appreciate it, but fuck you'd have to grind to get a somewhat complete experience.
In the final dev diary next week we will be talking about the new tribal mechanics. See you then!
That's it? Man this expansion isn't really looking worth 15€ so far to me.
769 could be a more fun start than 867 (assuming the cultural/religious setup has been improved a lot since the first dev diary) but it kinda comes down to "do the changes and nerfs actually make a 700-year long campaign interesting?".
On the other hand I can't wait for The Art of War.
is vic 2 worth picking up in the sale?
is vic 2 worth picking up in the sale?
Yes. And get its expansions. Vic 2 is probably my favorite Paradox game.
So I just tried CKII for the free weekend.
Being a tyrant is fun and all but the combat system makes it really frustrating to play.

Care to elaborate?

I'm playing as a Count, my capital is under siege.
I try to raise forces but it doesn't let me merge my units so I get instantly wrecked since the guy leading my forces is by himself so his flanks are surrounded.E
Edit: oh and when I'm under siege my raised forces don't join my defenders, and I can't declare war when I have armies raised beforehand.
I don't know it just feels really weird.

Unless its a peasant revolt or something you should have the time to raise your army before the enemy army gets to your capital. You can also switch the leaders of your flanks by clicking on their face/names, however not if you have crown authority at Autonomous Vassals. You could also try buying mercenaries.
In order for your armies to actually help defend a siege they have to be unraised, inside the besieged holding
Always have a large amount of money stored away for mercenaries. Especially if you're just a count. They will win the fuck out of wars for you.

Additionally, if you have the Sons of Abraham DLC, borrow money if you really need it, but remember to pay back in peacetime.

Except I did have two leaders in a unit but when they entered battle there was only one and I remember merging them.

Never pay back the Jews! You never know when your asshole liege might banish 'em, then your 300 whatever currency this game uses is no longer an option.
I just found screenshots of an old EU3 mp campaign with my 2 friends where me (russia) and my oman friend had a secret plan the entire game to destroy netherlands (another player)

tl;dr we won
I remember just stacking otherwise useless policies (decentralisation, narrowminded) to fuel my total war russia, even with max war exhaustion my empire never got any rebels
well yeah, most awesome MP game

If you're the one in charge could you just borrow a shit load of money and then banish the Jews yourself?

You certainly can. But whenever I'm a vassal I do what I mentioned. Few things worse than going to war/having it declared on you and having no Jews to borrow $$$ from.

Suddenly the events of WWII all make sense.
Charlemagne is out the 14th.
