Just noticed I reached 2k hours for CK2, can't wait for Charlemange!
Well my youngest daughter is literally perfect; a genius, brave, kind, fortune builder. My oldest is smart but craven and lustful.
My oldest son and heir is gay and gluttonous, doesn't care about justice and my oldest daugther can do what he was trained for. (political intrigue.)
My grandson by my oldest daughter is a fine soldier and kind as well, a bit slothful though. If only I had enough money to assasinate everyone but my youngest and grandkids.
I managed to banish my wife since she was in a plot to kill my mistress. :v:
Edit: oh shit I didn't even realize my oldest son was my spymaster, he got imprisoned by my liege.
Now to get rid of my other useless sons.
Edit: my character died, now I'm playing as my heir and having him lock everyone up who I don't like.

lock everyone up and then commit suicide
Why must the Paradox games be on sale when I have no money ;_;
Charlemagne is out the 14th.
Art of War when though
Wow, the UK for once in my hands off Vicky 2 Pop Demand game (not /GSG/) released Canada in 1837. Also the USA let the UK keep Caribou in Northern Maine
Mid 1840s, Canada accepted Rupert's land and now reaches from Coast to Coast.

So, I'm downloading Vicky2, does anyone have any suggestions for getting into it? I assume the tutorial is as crap as it is in HOI3.

Play as USA or as a mainland European country, make sure you keep a good direction with research and development, don't overload your financing, keep taxes low, appease the voter issues to quell rebellion, and direct yourself into a free market.

Prussia or France is best to start off with.

If you're playing with a small country, try to have a party with state capitalism, or if that is not possible, a planned economy party. That will give you much more control, which you will need to stay competitive.
For larger countries I would go towards a laissez faire economy, because otherwise you'll be spending much of the game micro'ing your factories. Besides that, factories are more likely to be profitable for larger countries because they have more resources to fuel them.
Prussia or France is best to start off with.
Prussia is a good country if you want to head straight into Military stuff.
UK is good for easy-peasy country management (you're #1 for 80% of the game with little intervention)
Japan is fun for westernizing and turtling an advance.
Greece is hardmode
I finally figured out how to play HoI3. But now, holy shit that crashing. I crashed twice last night playing as Japan, every time a couple days after I had taken the Philippines. So I played it again today, go to save the second I take the Philippines and then it crashes literally when my cursor is on the save game button.

I also managed to finally figure out all the little features of the game recently, and was beginning to get into but was forced to stop due to the constant crashing. The game seems to crash shortly after any large events are triggered such as the invasion of Poland or blitzkrieg of France. My only guess is that it may have something to do with all the notifications that are involved, or all the movements of the AI, but I have no idea.
I started as the US and haven't yet tanked the country, which is nice. The economy's going reasonably, and I'm investing the shit out of stuff.
Plus I colonised pretty much all of the land that's empty at the start, and took California back off Mexico.
It's pretty bewildering, but it's a ton more engaging than EUIV has been.

this is also my experience with hoi3 thus far

I disagree. You have huge resources, but at the same time, all your shit is scattered and fighting is a big mess, since the AI is much better at micromanaging everything.
Also China wrecks your economy once it modernizes and floods the global market with cheap tea.
For anyone crashing in HOI3 I recommend you get Podcats LAA .exe
Also glad I gave EU4 a chance, I really like it. Played as Byzantium in my first game, gonna convert it to Vic2 soon.
(Not pictured my South African and American Colonies)

So how far can you go with the same save game using the converter? Does it go all the way from CK2 to Vic2? Will HoI4 allow save game converting so you can run a campaign from 700 whatever to 1948?

HOI3 converters are absolute ass in every single possible way and the other way you'll be able to convert is to do everything entirely by hand. It's by no mean hard to pull at whatsoever, just really fucking repetitive to do.

Good to know. I've only ever played HoI3, but the prospect of doing a several century campaign seems interesting.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a shot since I was really liking Hearts of Iron 3 before I started experiencing the frequent crashes
I am the worst ruler ever.
I've been trying to establish a primogeniture for my oldest son so decades of my original character hardwork won't be undone in a civil war, but I conceded that it was inevitable.
The moment my son ascended to the throne I imprisoned the second oldest and the other two rose in rebellion. Imprisoned his sisters and executed them without a moment's hesitation, the rebellion was put down quickly. Of all of King Sancho children, only Fernao lived to see the future of Aragon. (Fernao and the second son along with my oldest daughter were the only ones older then 16. One of them was 2 years old. :v:)
I'm going to try and finish taking the rest of the Navarra kingdom, and I need to find a way to get rid of the opposition in other kingdoms to my higher crown authority proposition since outright war with anyone will be met with France walking in with their 10k army to beat me bloody. I just barely avoided a asskicking when they joined the Aragonian-Castillian War and wiped out my last army so I managed to white peace.
Doesn't help that my current leader is useless as shit.
I plan on doing the great game.
Going from CK2 to EU4 to Vic 2 (and HOI3 when i get it, maybe during christmas)
I have some questions though.
What DLC should I get?
for EU4 I have the Extreme Edition, the major expansions and some others (Call to Arms, preorder, units)
for CK2 I have Sword of Islam, Rajas, and Customization
for V2 I have AHD and HOD
next one: should I use EU4 or go with EU3 Complete?
and are there any games that are pre CK2 that are convertible? (I just got into paradox games, sorry)
You should get Legacy of Rome and Old Gods for CK2.
You should get Legacy of Rome and Old Gods for CK2.
Don't mean to sound rude, but what about the second question?
Are there any worthwhile mods for those games (I only have a few mods for EU4 installed, ironman compatible)
Veritas et fortitudo for eu4
Meiou and taxes for both, though I havent played this
They barely run on my PC
Preferably something that doesn't change a lot.
Or are there any good EU3 mods (if I'm going to play with EU3, I haven't played enough of it but I kinda like it)
[editline]6th October 2014[/editline]
okay i'm still stressing over that second & third question
eu4 or eu3?
good ck2/vic2 mods (vanilla)

What's the hardest start for Byz in CK2? I want to play them but I don't like playing large kingdoms/empires because it's too easy.

In 1066, the Seljuk invasion at the start. If you can pull through that, it should be a breeze. In 867, nothing's really stopping you from growing except for the Abbasid Empire, but most often you'll be able to expand through most of the Muslims before they do anything. It's just about knowing when to fight the Muslims. Internal management is an issue as well, though.
