I like to imagine that the only reason Germany hasn't gone to systematically waging war and making huge war machines is because they have grand strategy games to scratch the itch.

paradox interactive saved the world from a world war 3.
bless their souls.
Victoria 2 also has Gas Attacks
Well that's a bit different as opposed to genocidal gassings
I still want to produce a not-kitchy or offensive 'realistic population decisions' mod for Vic:II which adds forced relocations, intentional famines, genocide, etc.
You just can't have a game what has the Scramble for Africa, American colonization of the west, and the Great War(s) without it.
I'd also add a lot more intentional industrialization and reform events, those are sort of lacking.
Also more events for uncivilized nations.
Well Vickymod has Genocide Decisions if you're fascist. It removes a certain percentage of non-accepted pops from your country.
I know I've mentioned this before a few times, but there's also the implied massacre of people from events like westernization and 1840 liberalism and the like
I've been playing the Vicky 2 Divided we Stand mod, but I'm a bit new to the game so I am having a hard time trying to grow my shit. Any tips on that?

That's conducted via "assimilation rate", though. It's considerably faster in colonial/rural areas.

Sums up my thoughts exactly
man HoI3 is fucking impossible to understand
shit was designed for retired military officers so they would have something do to
fuck that game
I'd say the easiest way to play HOI is to probably play as an Axis team-up country, as you can very easily learn how to use the most vital aspects without having to overextend yourself over every continent like Britain or have the massive curse of a chain of command that is STAVKA as the USSR.
The CK2 dlcs really improve the combat, since you have to specialize buildings in keeps to build your armies(Old Gods, that is.). Politics is a lot more rampant now, it reached the point where everybody and their mother was plotting against everyone else.
Since I'm Pagan I'm stuck with low crown authority, but apparently some vassals don't like that and next thing I know I'm imprisoning all my vassals left and right when they decide to make a new "King's Sister for Queen!" faction or "Lower Crown Authority!" right after I disbanded the previous one.
My Polish Kingdom ended up dividing since I lost some civil wars but then I reunited all the territories except for one which I have a truce with, but their time will come. Poland remains stronk.

I managed to get the the hang of it after just a couple of sessions playing with a friend and having him explain things to me. He wasn't even an experienced player either. He had just watched a few videos and did a little reading on the very basics (aka all the tabs at the top and some basic fighting). It can be a bit overwhelming, but overall it's not that hard to play, it's just hard to get good at.
I figured I might get a quicker response if anyone here knows, I've already asked on the PI forum but anyways.
I'm trying to make an event that can be triggered by a human player at any time but the AI can only activate it at a set date, and the date the AI chooses will be within a range. How would I go about doing it? As I have it now I can't get an or operator to work, it requires all of the listed modifiers.

Another event I made is not activating at the date I set it to, I don't really see whats wrong with it. It works via console, any ideas?

Thanks.
So if i'm reading this correctly you want this:
If you're AI and it's 1937, accept.
OR
If you're not AI and it's 1936, accept.
allow = {
MAN = {
war = no
}
has_country_flag = puyi_seizes_control
OR = {
AND = {
ai = no
year = 1936.1.1 #This isn't really needed, it's impossible to fire anything before '36 anyway
}
AND = {
ai = yes
year = 1937.1.1
month = 2
}
}
}
This is something more like it then.
Well, Chucky's out and it's pretty good. Chronicle is awesome, haven't done much with anything though.
Calling the kingdoms "custom" is a sorta misleading though. Sure you can change the name, but I think it'd be awesome if I could create an elective kingdom or empire called the Pan-Hellenic Alliance or something, with the king-level title being Strategos.

Yes this is exactly what I meant, thanks a ton.
Is the a mod for V2 that stops Russia from literally warping deathstacks into every battle? In my current Japan game, I tried to puppet Manchuria and both Russia and China Dow'd me. Now despite the fact that I had easily over 2 million troops (half of them are guards) in the area, with max military tech, I just can't compete with the meat-grinder of Russia and China combined, specifically Russia. Even though they're only using Conscript troops with no Cav or Art against me, I just get ground down by sheer numbers. Where does Russia get so many troops from in fucking Siberia anyway?

Those are the countries with the biggest populations, what do you expect? Also you are probably getting attacked while you are sieging, correct? Guards are complete ass at defense. Get more defensive units and good generals.
I'm gonna give hoi3 another shot
team up with hitler as nazi spain here i come
So Charlemagne is out, is it worth it?
Huh, PDS is going to be spotlighting mods now

lmao they advertised "dozens of new cultures" in Charlemagne. In the end there are only eleven.
The three East Slavic cultures literally copy-pasted from the Russian culture, and Suebi/Frankish are copy-pasted from German. Saxon is almost the same as Anglo-Saxon too, except they added a handful of names to Anglo-Saxon and I guess they forgot to copy them to the Saxon list.
snip
did they go weak on the start options in Charlemagne like with old gods?
I'm not really surprised at this, PI seems content to keep releasing new content instead of fleshing out existing ones.
Pagan religions like Romuva, Sumensko and Slavic really need some additions for flavor, etc.

Or, as people have been suggesting since the original release, how about they work on the eponymous events? Crusades are incredibly bland. Funny enough, I bought RoI happily but have never played an Indian character, and with Charlemagne, I played him for a bit then found someone else to play. It's usually the stuff that isn't the "main" selling point that sells me on CK2 DLC.
Except Old Gods that is, because fuck yeah vikings.
Currently playing Justan Justanid from the new start date on ironman and finally have some moderate Zoroastrian success.
The infidel Muslims will know fear when the chosen Saoshyant of Ahura Mazda marches on Mecca.
edit: The fucking asshole Abbasid Caliph wanted to revoke my title so naturally I told him to shove it. Him being the Big Green Blob, he stomped me. GG. Anyone who says they do well with Zoroastrians in ironman is full of shit. The fucker got medium crown authority and literally all I could do was sit there and try to fabricate things in the hopes that eventually there'd be enough plot power to lower it.
25 percent off code for Charlemagne on GMG P65PW6-F9B91D-TW2AG2
Charlemagne kinda sucks, but not as hard as Rajas.
Rajas was just really underwhelming. I know that people yearned for Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, but the gameplay of the Indian subcontinent felt extremely bland. Honestly, there was little religious, cultural or even political intrigue in India, and the main way for it to be exciting was to push out of India, which is nothing amazing in itself since it's just holy war Casus Bellis throughout.
Charlemagne adds some cool new stuff, however, that crosses over into non-769 playthroughs or start dates. It's okay, but should be $5 as opposed to fucking $15
So, it's 831, and the Crusades have fire, the Byzantine Empire has pretty much lost Anatolia, the tengri faith has reformed, and Sviþjob owns everything north of Denmark.
halp

The farther back the start date is the more batshit insane history takes a turn.
