Oh, and my copy of Vicky 2 crashes at the main loading screen every time.
Same here, the loader is broken. You need to go into the files and start the game... Just wait until Paradox patches it.
Vicky 2 is probably one of the best Paradox games for starters. I wouldn't recommend Hearts of Iron as a starting paradox title. It's the most complex and challenging of all of their series.

EU3 is great simply because of how many ways you can play the game.
I bought Victoria 2 + A House Divided from steam about a week ago, and I'm still getting used to it. I managed to unify Italy around 1868 and ally with North German Federation, Austria-Hungary, Spain, and the Ottoman Empire. It's 1889 currently and I'm worried that France will declare war on us. Our army sizes are fairly equal, but I'm terrible at managing combat in this game. Any tips?
i think in vicky you can just doomstack.
also let the enemy begin occupying your land so they suffer from attrition. after their numbers are significantly reduced you can destroy their armies and begin invading their shit.

Eu3 is actually easier than CK2 and Vicky2. He said he had Vicky 2 so I suggested he play that Vicky 2 instead because it was easier. He can't right now though because it's broken.
You could doomstack in Vicky 2, but the problem is the high attrition rates just rape you, since soldiers are pooled from a social class, rather than just a manpower pool.

well that's why you only doomstack to destroy the opponent's army. then you can split stacks to start occupying a ton of land at once.

Try to aim for armies with equal parts frontline units and artillery.

I love how soldiers are actually taken from your population pool in Vicky 2. It's more realistic and gives war a real cost.
Here's what you do for larger conflicts. You cycle your troops so that you have one army fighting and another resting. You do not want your whole army on a single territory getting killed more by attrition than by the enemy.
As Prussia I occupy all of France about about 3 years. This destroys them, Killing millions and forcing millions to the America's. After my war France is normally almost depopulated and unstable. I like my France with regular revolutions and almost no citizens.
I like my France Corrupt and Aristocratic. None of this silly republic nonsense spreading amongst the lower classes.
well that's why you only doomstack to destroy the opponent's army. then you can split stacks to start occupying a ton of land at once.
I avoid using doomstacks like the plague because they eat up soldier pops too fast.
First I'll use armies one at a time, positioning armies around the battle as a sort of reserve system. Only then if the battle is truly going south, I'll send in additional armies and rotate the depleted one out the fray. This way even if the battle is lost, fresh armies can rotate in incase the enemy tries to counterattack.
In CK2 if i own all of Ireland and wales and am the king of ireland, would it be in my benefit to create the kingdom of wales?
In CK2 if i own all of Ireland and wales and am the king of ireland, would it be in my benefit to create the kingdom of wales?
Unless you plan on invading all of Britannia, not really, better to let the duchies fall under your de jure kingdom.
In CK2 if i own all of Ireland and wales and am the king of ireland, would it be in my benefit to create the kingdom of wales?
It's good for prestige, having two Kingdoms rather than just one. It also means that no Welsh Dukes can create it and become independent from you. But for holding on to the territories I'd keep it all under the one Kingdom because De Jure rule under one Kingdom is much, much easier.

No.

It's better to not create the title but make sure you own most of the Welsh land so that none of your Welsh vassals can create the title and become independent, and after a few years it will incorporate into the de jure Kingdom of Ireland

100 years is a few years, btw.

same MP game. Russia & Oman are to destroy the Netherlands player

Russia blitzkriegs all of germany with 600K troops. Netherlands warexhaustion escalates quickly to max.

so does Russias, but Russia gains no revolts from its total war.
tl;Dr Netherlands player concedes defeat, oman player collapsed after attacking with 100 troops and Russia (me) is the sole ruler of the planet.
I have never managed to have a good game as Russia, either starting as Muscowy or as Novogorod. I just always ball it up somehow and then I get frustrated and go back to playing weird places in India or Malmuks.
if my capital is being sieged and i hire mercenaries, will they appear on my capital and proceed to get owned by the attacking army?
Yes, they will get owned since they have 0 morale.
Yes, they will get owned since they have 0 morale.
I knew that, I just wanted to know if they appear at the capital when there's an attacking army, because it says they will appear in or around the capital. I've never seen them not appear at the capital

When you hire them, if there are enemies in the capital they will appear nearby it. They won't spawn into enemies.
I think I might have mistaken CKII for EU3, I don't play CKII that much so I thought you were talking 'bout EUIII so my info might indeed be not correct

I should have specified, my bad
I enjoy playing Bohemia in EU3. I personally like to start in 1402/3, when Serbia and Bosnia aren't vassals anymore and there are still rebels on Ottoman soil.
I just can't play Bohemia.
Ugly name, Ugly colour and ugly borders probably inbound.

in eu3 you get mercenaries the same way you recruit units. they won't pop up in the capital unless you recruit them there.
Does anyone have a mirror download for death and taxes 9.5? I'm trying to get it but the original dropbox link isn't working :/
