They can still bully smaller kingdoms with moderate results and hold their ground for a while against the HRE for the first few legs of the game.
And run by the player the skies the limit. Gotta love making my son the HRE causing it to fall apart 600 years early.
Have you played a Republic since the giant nerfing patch? Republics are not OP, historically Republics were incredibly powerful and influencial politically in Europe. The Lombard League defeated the HRE at the height of it's power and Venice basically took over huge chunks of the Byzantine Empire after the third crusades.
I've never played as a republic but...

Shit like this shouldn't happen. Republics shouldn't be able to hold that much land. Or at the very least, AI republics shouldn't try to conquer every Muslim territory around the Mediterranean. Gotland didn't survive in that game, but it's not unusual to see the same thing happen in the Baltic.
If there were a few strategical trade provinces and republics fought each other over them instead of holy-warring everything it would be better.

Something like a valued resource in a province to make it worth more to take, at least a city. Some provinces only have grain, or low quality stone, others have fine wines or valuable metals. The republic that holds the most of them gets a bonus, meaning it's a target for other republics to take, perhaps even get a free CB on it. Now you have competing republics. Perhaps kingdoms can benefit from resources as well, but not nearly as much.
that's not totally true. in cases of hyperinflation the wages don't rise as fast as prices generally which causes serious problems. also, inflation is a marker of other economic "disasters" which lower the ability of people to procure goods and services.
if everything stayed consistent then inflation, hyperinflation, and deflation wouldn't be a problem at all.
Well a lot of things like wages or rents lag behind when inflation happens, but for the most part things tend to stick to what they should be. Usually its when inflation is insanely high that you get problems.
If I managed Eu3, inflation would mainly devalue cash reserves and technologies. If it was high enough in too short a time, it would start to negatively affect economic growth and cause revoltrisk.
Inflation should only be allowed to go up in extreme times of need, eg huge armies for huge wars that decide nations existance, etc . For regular conflicts use war taxes. Always keep inflation at 0, I recommend a brilliant master of mint, this should be your key advisor.
Eu3 won't be seeing any changes since Eu4 is coming up in the slightly distant future.
edit:
If you manage to stage a miraculous Zoroastrian recovery and reclaim the Persian Empire, you will have the option of declaring yourself the Saoshyant, the chosen savior of the world mentioned in prophecy by Zoroaster himself. This will not only earn you a new nickname, but you will also get a new trait that significantly boosts the opinion of all Zoroastrian characters towards you. All future descendants of the Saoshyant will also get a less powerful version of this trait, even if they convert to a different religion.
That's all I have for now. I hope you'll have a pleasant Wednesday!

Well I know what I'm doing first, giant Zoroastrian empire that prevents the spread of Islam and defeats the Mongol hoard.

Is Germany easier formed now? Just had Germany getting formed before 1870 and going to a great war against France.

Germany went overboard with their reclaimation of Alasce-Lorraine. . .
Mp game I'm doing with a couple of friends. We stopped in the 1580s somewhere.

Early on in the session I was battling a losing war against the Timurids, there was a instance where I even lost some provinces to the horde and to make matters worse rebels were all over the place, Hedjaz horde even revolted so that was even more of a mess. Somehow, I made a miraculous recovery by trapping their large army in a island strait and liberated all that I lost, and finally turned the tables on them when I destroyed said stack.
Hungary accidentally went full DISHONOBRU and embroiled most of Europe in war, so Austria and Russia had to go help him out, it was amusing hear them complain about losing. :v:
Right before we ended, I got caught up in two wars against Syria-Algeria and Persia-Adal.
I decided to start in 1399 as little Irish province expecting it to take a 100 years for the opportunity to arise to form Ireland. Well it came much sooner than I thought.

England thought it was a smart idea to declare war on all of Europe for some reason.
take wales and brittany and form the celtic union
Maybe i'm missing something here, but in CK2 how the hell am I able to beat back the Seljuqs in 1066, I had 3k more men then them AND the Defensive bonus and they slapped my shit.... I must be missing something obvious.
The strategy is to let them take a couple of provinces and hunker down in mid-east turkey, let the attrition kill them down.

That Austria fail... :(
take wales and brittany and form the celtic union
what about scotland?
Ireland really isn't in the position to make real wars, it basically starts out with the population of colonies making it nigh impossible to make money.
The strategy is to let them take a couple of provinces and hunker down in mid-east turkey, let the attrition kill them down.
Have them drop down to about what number? I had them at 12k to my 15k and they crushed me, I was told to fight them in mountainous terrain because the Byzantine army was infantry heavy. I was thinking that while they waged war on the border territories I could move the bulk of my army into their territory and siege their capitol. Would this be a viable strategy you think?
That Austria fail... :(
Compared to the other two he's got his shit together. For starters, he doesn't have any inflation but Russia and Hungary have like 30+ inflation. Also, he's begun colonizing Haiti already.

Just build docks and trade buildings in your provinces, and obviously trading in CoTs will put you on the right track to making money in the long run.
I'll have to heavily reform in order to get into trading, any Merchants I send fail to compete and any positions they hold don't bring in much money.
I also did another game going for Byzantium, managed to defeat the Ottomans but my main enemy is the Catholics because those bastards are far better organized than the Muslims.
Any word on when the GoT mod and Elder Kings are going to be updated? I don't want to dig through the official threads. :V

No current release date for Elder Kings, although my guess is they're waiting for the Pagan DLC to come out.

Which really sucks, because supposedly EK 1.2 fixes the retinue crashing bug that is making every single one of my games unplayable.

Are we going to need to buy the new DLC to play EK or would the important features be compatible in mods anyways. I'm kinda new to paradox games so idk how free stuff vs buying dlc works.

It doesn't really matter as long as the DLC content is mandatory for the mod to function. I guess that, at most, they could give the Orcs and Akaviri cultures some twists to the gameplay, but otherwise I think they'll just use it as a platform to work upon. If people won't get it, they can just release a fix that isolates the mod from the DLC, which they already did with LoR.
Paradox always distributes a patch alongside big DLC releases, usually changing some core gameplay mechanics. That might push mod release dates back a little as modding teams work around the changes.

You can disable retinues completely by emptying the mod's retinue_subunits file. That's how I play TPaTT now.
Or you can try to adapt this fix.

I already tried this on the Elder Kings mod and it still crashes a lot aven after starting a new game, so it might be there's more at play in that mod than just the Retinue bug.
It's possible I somehow screwed up emptying a word file, though. I'll have to see if I made a mistake or not.
is the game of thrones mod good?

Yes, although if you're picky about your precious Lore being destroyed like I am, you might go a little crazy.
