Is it just me or are there a lot of hidden nations in HoI3? In the localisation countries.csv, it mentions Scandinavia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Texas, and nations like that.
They were probably going to put all the non-existing nations as releasable nations but then went all "Dude the game's nations are already straining the engine and nobody is going to want to clog up the frontline with nations which would not in any way be created at that point in history."
About your mod issue, make sure you're running the right verion of the game, a lot have mods have been updated for 1.03 RC2 Also a few of mods require you to make a copy of the "Darkest Hour Full" folder under 'mods' and install over the copy. Read the readme and the thread carefully. I had the same problem yesterday with Mixmod I kept reading over where I had to install over a 'Darkest Hour Full' copy.
Currently my Victoria II game, as of 1912 Interestingly, communism sprung up in the Ottoman Empire (which had turned into a republic by then) and they then went to war with everyone around them: not a decent idea, as you can see. I'm especially liking how Russia randomly gobbled up bits of Turkey proper. They're the least industrial communist nation I've ever seen. Also, the USA went into a random conquering binge between 1870 and 1900. I'm not sure what's up with that.
A competent US AI that not only stepped up it's act by conquering it's cored territory from Mexico, but also managed to grab some territory from Mexico proper, amazing!
What's a nation to learn HOI3 as? I was considering italy or japan
Is Darkest Hour worth it? and how different is it from HoI3?
What's a nation to learn HOI3 as? I was considering italy or japan
I'd say either Spain or Italy would be good starting points. Both start fairly early in their wars, which is a perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with warfare. Japan and USA are good choices too I guess.
Is Darkest Hour worth it? and how different is it from HoI3?
Completely different. DH is simply a far-better version of HoI2, for 10$(?) I'd say it's a perfect steal.

There's some previews for the upcoming sprites coming out with HoN expansion. Rather or not they'll be free is another question, probably not though since the American sprite packs weren't either. Look like the same quality as EUIV and MOTE's models. I've been watching DeStalinator's LP of Kaiserrech for DH, he kicks the worlds ass as Canada http://www.youtube.com/user/DaStalinator
fuck it start as germany in the 1944 scenario. [editline]4th March 2013[/editline] that's how men learn the game.
My only experience in HoI was invading Dominican Republic and Haiti as Cuba.
i think im gonna experiment with eu3 some. i'm gonna go to the static modifiers and change ai modifiers and do some hands off to see how the world turns out. what's some good ideas for changes? so far i'v been thinking about: upping colonist rate. this should cause the european powers to blob really fast across the america's. upping infamy limit. less "dishonorable scum" gangbangs, i hypothesize this will let the big get bigger. austria is generally the recipient of bb wars in my experience so they should be a lot more powerful slowing tech rate. this might keep european powers on more equal footing with muslim and asian powers for longer, and possibly even give them more time to westernise.
One of the EvW devs said that he found EU3 more difficult/complicated then HOI3, there were 3-4 posts afterwords telling him he was wrong. heh.
It is true though.. EU3 is simple but has many things to it, that aren't as in depth as for say the military system in HOI3, but alot of other things are more complex of the same level. EU3 = the mix of Victoria 2, CK and HOI3 IMO, it has elements from all of them but those arent as in depth as the ones in the other games.

Just lower the requirements for westernisation, particularly removing the stability hits, and you should have plenty of increased tech. I would add extra colonists to the Animist and Shamanist religions for best results in both America and Africa along with better efficiency for tribal governments. If you think they're not westernising fast enough, make sure to remove the annex = yes from Animism and Shamanism. Otherwise you'll get the same issue of Spain coming to the new world and annexing huge territories of native land.
I let another DH game run over night. I only made one change in 1933, I made US Stalinist. I came back after waking it, it was 1972, because handsoff stops he game from pausing, it also doesn't pause it when it comes to the end date. Germany controls Europe and eastern Russia. They're still at war with the Allies, USA is not part of the allies but is also at war with Germany, it appears Japan never went to war with the US. Interesting POIs: Britain and the British Raj are National Socialist and Australia is Fascist. But they're still part of the allies so they were not conquered and released. British Raj is not part of the allies, they must have never joined the war. Turkey is the Ottoman Empire again, interesting Germany was nuked by someone at some point because their capital is Vienna. And some how, against all ods, North Korea exists, its Stalinist, only controlled a couple provinces, and isn't a puppet of anyone.
buff their tech rate a lot too, the incas were a pretty advanced civilization
they didnt have the wheel, sophisticated methods of recording information, ferrous meturllurgy and pack animals tho, the incas weren't that much ahead of dudes like the Maya or Aztecs
actually, i think they had wheel but they only used it for toys source: guns germs and steel
actually, i think they had wheel but they only used it for toys source: guns germs and steel
That's worse in a way, that they invented the wheel, but were unable to find a use for it.
That's worse in a way, that they invented the wheel, but were unable to find a use for it.
I think it's kind of the same way the Romans invented the steam engine but just didn't bother to do more with it than make toys.
I think it's kind of the same way the Romans invented the steam engine but just didn't bother to do more with it than make toys.
It wasn't even a proper steam engine. Saying that toy was a steam engine is misleading. The first steam pumps took Boyle and Papins work into account, and were little more than primitive pressure cookers. Later, they were used to drive pistons by squirting cold water into a hot cylinder, using atmospheric pressure to push down on the piston. It took about a century for somebody to figure out "hang on let's make it use the pressure of steam to drive pistons".
i wouldn't trust guns germs and steel on anything fyi jared diamond is a hack
it sort of felt like an incomplete book, but i dont think hes a hack
I started a Divine Wind game as the Golden Horde and began steamrolling the Ottomans, but they concede defeat to Qara Koyunlu, which is not my ally, and yet the war between the Ottomans and me just ends. How is it they can just sign peace with another nation (in ANOTHER war) and get out of jail free from my hordes? Whenever I'd play as Russia or Manchu and colonise Eurasia, signing peace with one nomadic nation would only sign it for that country and I'd still be at war with the others. Anyone know what might be causing this?
Are you allied with that horde?
it sort of felt like an incomplete book, but i dont think hes a hack
Better than Gavin Menzies, at the very least. If I remember right, the reason the Incas have wheels is because the Chinese gave it to them or some other drivel.
Are you allied with that horde?
No, I had a royal marriage, would reload the autosave and cancel it, same thing would happen. Also loaded the save as Ottomans and I could do the same thing, didn't see what if signing peace between GH and Ottomans would have the same effect on QK though. In the end just made the Turks a tributary, but I'm worried about this happening again as destroying armies making the most of wars is quite crucial as I'm starting to get a tech disadvantage.
