Qing China's army is a dragon made of folded paper. It looks big and scary, but when not modernized and pitted in a fight against the Europeans it folds over like it's made of paper.
Well in the real second Opium war China lost horribly with 200,000 against 16,700 - 50,000, so at least you managed that much. It's a good thing that they don't have a series of events for the Boxer rebellion otherwise you'd be in even bigger shit. Being China in the Victorian era is suffering, they were lucky they didn't turn into a series of European colonies. [t]http://i.imgur.com/i05aWAG.jpg[/t]
When AHD was released I played a Japan game and simply took over half of China because of how pathetic their armies were. Just got Heart of Darkness, they made Japan pink those bastards.

The China one is much better. What I like is that they aren't experts who simply have established plans for playing each country but people who know how to play and actually play.
I would also say that Prussia is a very good way to start the game. You are fairly powerful and there is a clear set of early goals to accomplish to unify Germany that makes the game vey fun and satisfying. Also, fuck Austria. China is kinda weird in that even if you modernize, your armies can't compare with any of the other European Great Powers due to your awful technology. What did AHD do to China that made it worse for beginners? PS: I really like Stalin's let's plays too even if he isn't soon any strategy games which is the only thing I watch from him. Very excited for his eventual Rome 2 let's play.

This makes it even easier to fracture China, especially when GPs start duking it out diplomatically. In my last game of AHD I managed to unify and modernize China (which took a while), and while China's a fucking beast for industry their soldiers still suck in comparison to a lot of Europe.
Thinking about getting hearts of iron III with all the DLC's, is it worthy? Are there good mods for it?
Thinking about getting hearts of iron III with all the DLC's, is it worthy? The only one that matter are Semper Fi, For the Motherland & Their Finest Hour.
I took me 500,000 troops to kill a grand total of 15,000 troops. WHAT.
Did you use the useless irregular troops that you start out with or did you upgrade to regulars? Just maintain positive relations with the UK anyway.
But when it modernizes...
Your men are still using muzzle loaded rifles while Britain is launching mustard gas and spraying Gatling guns at your troops. The biggest great power you can go up against is probably Russia.
But when it modernizes...
It becomes a High tech tin-foil dragon If you want to have a 100% successful game stating as China in Victoria 2 here's what you do: 1. Select China in the nation select screen (careful not to select the island next to it; that's Japan!) 2. Choose another primitive nation nearby 3. Annex them (Don't worry about infamy European probably can't even point to you on a map) 4. Do it again 5. Do it until there aren't any left 6. Oh shit France is attacking 7. Move all of your troops into one province for maximum fighting and scaryness capacity 8. Fight their army 9. Goddamnit 10. Fuck it press ~ 11. Type 'tag PRU" Congratulations! You have gone from a primitive nation to GP in just a few short years! Have fun!
When China modernizes it's even sadder because you went through all that effort only to get your ass handed to you by UK's machine guns instead of their muskets.
Which is why I give up any hope of becoming a military superpower as China. Instead I exploit the insane amount of natural resources China gets after Modernisation and just build my army up to scary numbers as to deter any potential attackers. An alliance with a GP can be good if you can get, if not then building up a sphere of influence and a network of alliances can be just as good, especially if you do so without pissing anyone off too much in the meantime. My industrial score alone is usually enough to get me to GP status when coupled with my prestige. [editline]23rd June 2013[/editline] A fun side effect is you remove a substantial amount of british revenue due to your suddenly massive output of tea, which devalues tea in the global market.

Just had the strangest MP game using the Game of Thrones mod. I started as Robb Stark while my friend started as Stannis. I was slain in combat by Asha Greyjoy who was henceforth known as Asha 'the Kingslayer' and Bran was forced to submit to Joffrey to keep Winterfell. Somehow I managed to get a betrothal to Myrcella but that would prove short-lived as Danaerys landed and captured King's Landing, butchering the entire royal family including Joffrey, Cersei, Myrcella, Tommen and Joffrey & Sansa's daughter before making King's Landing independent. The death of all of Cersei's children meant Stannis inherited the throne, restored the North to me and married Danaerys. All was well in the world...for about 5 seconds before the entire continent declared war on Stannis for Tyrion's claim on the Iron Throne, whom had just inherited the Westerlands from Lord Tywin 'the Tickler' (whom was betrothed to an 8 year old) and had just died from syphilis (what). Stannis died fighting and Shireen was imprisoned, making Tyrion the king of the universe and leaving us with our jaws on the floor.

Is the mod out yet for the current version? (1.011 I think)

Halp Crusader Kings crashes when I win the Crusade because of the amount of De Jure territory it's taking away from Kebab. Well it managed to go through this time, problem is it wont let me get the actual Kingdom title so now I have to some how distribute all of this shit.
I really feel like there should be a way for China to become comparable to the other great powers after you put all that hard work into modernizing. If Japan can do it, why not China. Has anyone ever gotten the Communists to take over China because that might be the only way.
Work the economy, not the borders
I wish there were easier ways of spreading culture in EU3 and CK2. I managed to run a settlement policy in EU3 for over 300 years and still the bastards wouldn't turn to my culture.

If it wasn't of your primary culture then you're SOL since the MTTH is 250 years.
After setting up the foundation for Bretonia I decided to let the AI take control of it. However, it seems that wont really matter soon enough as the Mongol Overlords have come to Europe. Darkest Hour. I am playing Sweden. Germany crushed the Soviet Union in '41, forcing them to a Bitter peace in 1943. In 1946, they came back for more. The situation is dire. The Nazis have no intention of allowing a liberal, social democracy into their club of oppression and military dominance. For years now, Sweden has been hedging bets and making vague promises, focusing all resources internally while wishing Germany on with a guarantee of material support. It was hoped Germany would be ground into dust between the British and the Soviets. We were wrong. Sweden's last, greatest hope lies in the form of a single weapon. A weapon so terrible it may vaporize a million without warning, without means of defense. Sixty miles outside stockholm, shielded by barbed wire fences and miles of gnawing wilderness there is a nuclear reactor. Ostensibly a coal plant of the Färnebofjärden National Park, it was the world's first facility able to enrich uranium. Inside of it, in an underground bunker complex stretching for miles in all directions, the finest minds of Sweden toil to create a weapon to destroy the world in order to save the world. In five years they have produced a single workable weapon, a uranium core wrapped in a primitive reflector material that would later be defined as a "layer cake" weapon. It has finally been miniaturized to the point where it could be reliably attached to an available airplane and flown to its target - one way. Sweden possesses a single weapon capable of instantly annihilating a city, and the means to deliver it to the capital of their largest threat. The only thing stopping the rickety air force from immediately launching a do-or-die attack is the simple technicality that Sweden is not currently at war. Gustav V, king of Sweden, is a pig-headed isolationist of the highest order. Were the Nazis demons themselves, he would still parlay for peace even as they sacked the neighboring Finns, burned their cities for the betrayal, and installed a puppet government for the remaining, 'cleansed' population. There exists a practical concern as well. A single bomb may not do it. Even if Sweden was lucky enough to swoop away the entire German leadership in a single blast, there still exists serious army elements that would quickly overrun Sweden, regardless of her stubborn defense. It seems that a single nuclear weapon, or even a handful, would do nothing more than delay the German occupation. Even if Sweden were to irradiate the entire Danish peninsula, establish the Skane Line, and successfully hold off Finish puppet troops in the Northern Arctic she still would be subject to Germany's growing naval might. The general staff predicted a forced landing near Stockholm, supported by artillery on the disputed Aland islands. This not only meant a quick collapse of the government, but almost certain capture of the nuclear reactor before it could be dismantled. The militarists want a war at all costs, Gustav a peace at all costs, and the military a winnable battle plan. The debate raged for hours. Just. Enough. Time. At first daylight on May the Twenty-Fifth, 1949, an American turbojet bomber flew over Essen. It dropped a single bomb. Primitive in comparison to the Swedish bomb, it would be ironically more effective. Unable to complete a real fission bomb in reasonable time, the United States had simply chosen to flex its industrial might before it was eclipsed by Germany's seizure of the remaining Soviet industry on the Urals. The bomb was massive, as instead of a nuclear chain reaction which was technically complex, it simply threw together as much fissile material as possible. This has the additional effect of throwing out literal tons of irradiated material along the entire blast radius and dust cloud. While this was a hugely inefficient use of resources, the US could easily produce more Uranium. Germany could not produce more cities. Sweden will not stand alone.
