I would recommend watching someone else competent play first. The game becomes much easier to manage once you get a grasp on how to do things, and then it is just a matter of experience so you can get good.

What's with the face cam? It adds nothing at all.
You should learn how to be a duke before you play a king as it's honestly the most difficult part of the game.
Also, that guy in the video is a living stereotype.
I dunno, I took the advice of most people and started playing as Munster, and I am doing a good job so far.
I took that territory south of me (Dawson or something or another) and made the guy swear vassalage. I married my heirs to the only princess of France and the only princess of the HRE. This allowed my to force week claims on Poitou and Aquitaine. I went for Poitou because they were weaker, but first I assassinated the French king. He had no living sons and therefore no heirs (my son was somewhere in the line of succession by that point) but he opted to have some old shit from outside his dynasty. Of course, the French nobles created a faction in support of my son, and then their own sons, and then themselves. Basically, with one assassination I sent the crown into terrible Civil War where literally every major vassal went to war with each other. I capitalized and tried to invade Poitou -which had no allies- but the war ended before I could cement my conquest. It was for the better anyways, as that cunt in Dawson planned to usurp me so I had to put down his revolt and then lopped his head off.
Thankfully, his son didn't seem to care, because he was a loyal lad.
Some other interesting things include a surprisingly stable and powerful HRE and a surprisingly unstable (there is no such thing in CK2) England. Essentially, William conquered it and forced Harold into vassalage as a duke. Harold, who was my son-in-law at that point, managed to inherit roughly 5 titles in his years and had most of the populated parts of England under his thumb. As an old man, he revolted. The ensuing Civil War lasted around 7 years, and Harold was winning. He finally won when Yorkshire went independent and completely fucked what remained of England. William was forced into vassalage, and he promptly revolted and claimed the throne. Harold was forced into vassalage again and went to war, again, but died before he could complete it. His son inevitably won but was only in power for about 3 months before being ousted by some backwoods fuck from somewhere in William's distant relations.
So yeah, when I am not getting completely fucked by the AI, CK2 is an amazing game. I am glad I figured out how it works now.
I think I'm close to finishing my first Paradox game ever as Germany(Prussia) in Victora 2. I'm 2nd in the Great Power listings so it's went quite well.

You forgot Luxembourg.
Can't have a greater Germany without it.
God I'm at work and I wish I had a laptop so I could play some paradox games in my free time here.

I never like forming Super Germany. It feels at that point as if you're cheating. Also I like having Austria's weak and pathetic presence on the map.

Well I formed Normal Germany for the first 50 years or so put then Austria went and up asked me to annex them and I just went for it!
I finished 3rd, the USA got crazy powerful out of nowhere and Britain was always in the lead the whole game. France got completely demolished from 2 Great Wars and I had all the eastern countries sphered so Russia couldn't attack me. I never got to colonise anywhere :(

I was GP as Two Sicilies when Italy formed, so I didn't get the event to be annexed. Then Italy started a war on a small Italian country that wasn't annexed for some reason and Austria joined the war to protect them. The small coutnry was annexed by Italy, but the Austrians in return annexed the whole region after the war. :v:
Poland and Poland-Lithuania?
Poland and Poland-Lithuania?
I made Russia release Poland first and then Poland-Lithuania a few decades later.

Why are you doiing that France, stop that. You had your chance to go full Napoleon already and you missed it.

CK2>EUIII>Vicky 2 transfer, iirc
jesus christ
Papal States Italy... Byzantine Empire...
what the fuck did you do to poor Europe
I wanted to change the Romans to Greece to reflect their complete collapse into succesor states back in EU3, since they lost virtually everything that wasn't Thrace or Greece proper. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to, so I left them as that.
Papacy had various wars through the centuries with the other Italian powers; Milan, Tyrone, Pisa etc. Eventually they kicked out the latter out of Europe entirely. In that screenshot you see Milan and Papacy at war with eachother and Milan lost GP status as a result.
Rest of Europe is a result of Bavaria, Milan and Austria emerging as major powers following the dismantling of the HRE in the 1560s' and various decesive European wars that followed. European balance of power yo.
What's also interesting is the tyrannical dictator regime of the US falling apart now from Jacobin rebels. I like to pretend they're actually Sons of Liberty though.
CK2>EUIII>Vicky 2 transfer, iirc
This, plus potentionally hand-converting to HOI3-EvW(?).
In one of my greater Germany games I basically took Austria and Bohemia along with some of the former crownlands of the Austrian empire and divided it up into puppet states or guys in my sphere. I wanted to form a land barrier against Russia so that they would have to attack me from an extremely narrow point if war were to ever break out.
I left Hungary alone except for taking parts of Croatia. I had also built the Suez Canal first and had taken control over Egypt and had a large dominance over Africa that extended to perhaps 65-75 percent of it.
My CK2 seems to have broke

Fixed it.
Might be a dumb question, but do you have to re-establish your relationship to your vassals each time your ruler dies?
Might be a dumb question, but do you have to re-establish your relationship to your vassals each time your ruler dies?
Yeah, pretty much.
Might be a dumb question, but do you have to re-establish your relationship to your vassals each time your ruler dies?
Yes. Good way to preserve relations, if you already have largely positive ones, is to raise your heir to be you 2.0. You'll always suffer a short reign penalty, and others if you only have a daughter or ended up as a Saxon Muslim somehow, but if you're very similar to your predecessor your vassals will often be more accepting. Another method is raise the heirs of your vassals as well, and try your damnedest yo make sure they don't end up ambitious. Because the ambition trait in a Duke is an express ticket to a civil war.
[editline]29th June 2013[/editline]
Also, when you start getting old, keep some gold around so your heir can bribe their vassals
Sweden strong. I can't seem to form Scandinavia yet.

Yeah, you need two Kingdom titles to form any empire.

I haven't played Victoria 2 in a while. This Russia game turned out enjoyable since I managed to create a powerful and stable Russia which I had failed to do in a previous game. I even managed to get revenge for the battle of Tannenberg.
So, CK2, Aztecs invaded, but didn't get very far, also they converted to Islam.
Golden Horde did some damage, but were pushed back and they converted to Orthodox Christianity.

So. Are you slow? Or did i just luck out and break the game by getting Scandinavia and Britain by 944?
I noob lucked out. I haven't even given Jarldoms out to people in their proper geographical location. Esses is now in the top of Germany and Venezia (i ninja'd that to boost my economy. Also, springboard to Italy.) is now the Jarldom of Cornwall.
[editline]30th June 2013[/editline]
So i've just fixed my succession so the Youngest inherits. Does that mean i can start creating more Emperor titles without losing them to different sons? It'll help a TON with De Jure stuff.

converted it to EU3, don't mind the window border, turns out if you take a screenshot in EU3 in windowed mode, it takes a screenshot of the entire screen, not just the game.

i just had a stroke looking at that
How do you trigger the Boxer Rebellion?
I don't see why you people hate the so called blobbing and countries not being in their respective places. That's part of the fun of Paradox games, not having the same thing happen as in history (and countries expanding where they please). That's the remains of the Scandinavian Empire, I would expect what was left of it would still be called "Scandinavia".
