You need some serious stability. I had most my land owned by loyal church leaders and a giant retinue/army of mercenaries to keep order.
I mean how do you do it without getting game-overed due to your capital being a bishopric (making your nation a theocracy)? Rome's capital is a bishopric.

I made my capital Rome and that didn't happen...?
I'm considering getting EU:R, I wish there was a title in Paradox's line up that went from the end of it to in CK2 867/1066 though.
I've tried multiple times to get into Rome, but the way constant barbarian invasions in ridiculously high numbers hit you all the time, combined with the apparent reliance on mercenaries for war (as real troops drain your manpower insanely fast), I couldn't really keep interest. I wanted to enjoy it, but those two things just broke the camel's back for me.

That's strange. Is the provincial capital still the bishopric or is it the barony?

It became a Barony. Restoring Rome as the capital does destroy your technology level which means weaker armies and less retinues.

I just tried it then and it worked - odd. It always game-overed me for being a Theocracy before.
So, it has passed 1750 in my Bohemia EU3 game, meaning that now the independence events will be coming. I, however, am impatient and want to see terror spread. So, I activated all of the independence events.
This is 7 years later.

What do you think of this mess of a world?
I'm digging that Czech Texas.
I'm digging that Czech Texas.
Thanks, that was a personal goal of mine.

Czexas?

I've reached the last hundred years of my Papal States game and I'm honestly spoiled for choice in regards to conquests. All of Europe is my oyster.
Czexas?
You mentioning that reminded me of slaves for some reason, which in turn resulted in me remembering something I did.
I was the leading producer of slaves and abolished slavery.
Czexas?

Take your religion to the heathens, of course.
Oh god convert to vic2 and make this a thing PLEASE
I'm going to have to figure out how to modify the files then.
Also, I seem to be the leading trader of slaves now.
Plus that French Louisiana, woo, EU3 stays slightly historical in that screencap
23th of March, 1785.
Prediction for the rest of the game: Little to no change.

As you see, the Bohemian Monarchy (formerly an Empire) has grown to own territories in nearly every continent of the blue planet. Here, you can see the Commonwealth of the Bohemian Crown: Switzerland, New Papua, Brazil, Panama and Texas (now nicknamed Czexas). You also see the oversea territory of the Bohemian Guiana and the colonial holding in Africa.
We respect Orthodoxism and the former territories of the Byzantine Empire shall stay as such. We are the hereditary emperor of the Holy Roman Empire with the only other members being Switzerland and Rome, with the former being part of the Commonwealth while the latter is an Imperial vassal. We are the leading producers of Gold and the leading traders of Grain and Ivory, so we like to send our merchants to every Center of Trade on Earth.
The "von Luxemburg" dynasty currently rules two nations: Bohemia and the Commonwealth of Brazil, both of which respectively ruled by Ludvík the First and Rénan the First. The "Palaiologos" dynasty has recently managed to get two of their men as heirs of the thrones of Syria and Tripoli, both former Byzantine territories.
Ever since 1757, many of the former colonial nations became free, most noticably Chile, La Plata, Haiti, Columbia, Venezuela and Mexico. Mexico had a bloody civil war, leading to the Netherlands losing all of their North American territories. The USA has a war of nationalism against Louisiana, leading to its annexation. Many believe it is due to the USA talking the American and Flemish provinces in Louisiana to rebel, which lead to its demise. The USA also bought Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and Samoa from the Netherlands and France respectively.
And then we have the Mongols... Why did Scandinavia force Manchu to release it? No one knows. Ever since the Khanate's independence, many Pretenders came to the throne. It wasn't until some fellow named Nergüi Khan came to the throne that the Pretenders stopped coming. Also, Jerusalem has recently chosen to Hebraize their surname, Hafsid to Banuhaf [SUB]not actually Hebraized[/SUB], to stay true to their Jewish faith.
And the poor natives of Africa who have become Italy's feast, all due to them periodically sending Italians over their borders to become Italian, so that they may use Nationalism as their casus bellis!
And Malaya, due to a democratic revolution, abandoned its monarchy to become a merchant republic. Their Center of Trade has become the most valuable in Asia.
So, nearing the end of my game, I'll have to wait before converting to HoD, due to the converter not supporting it yet. So, looking at the entire map, I think I managed to keep the borders nice and neat. Minimal usage of savefile editing (for cosmetic things such as dynasties).
Now, any questions?
The relatively modern borders in Europe besides some obvious changes are silly :v:
The relatively modern borders in Europe besides some obvious changes are silly :v:
I'm curious, were you playing some modern world mod Damian or did you really fuck around that much with the borders?

You will not believe how bad the borders were around 1540. I declared war on nations just to make nice borders. Poland blobbed into central Germany, France blobbed into north-west Italy and such.
I took me atleast around 70 years to get those borders in Europe. So yeah, you could say I fucked around that much.

Well, to be fair, both of those are things that the countries wanted to do IRL.
I think the biggest thing for me is just how the British have fucking Gibraltar :v:
Well, it's the end of 1892. Brunswick's economical situation is looking pretty glum right now.

There's only one way...
I played to 1900 and the industry managed to fix itself after I researched some commercial tech. After that, I decided to open all the closed-down factories and everything proceeded to be fine again, the industry even managed to become exceptionally better now than it was before this recession.
Unemployment is still a big problem in some regions, just not as much now. Russia still haves it rough, unfortunately, their industry score is still low a bit so I figured they'll take a while to recover.
Encouraging capitalists through national focuses and no taxation from the very beginning is the best to get a strong efficient economy running. Micromanaging an economy is almost Impossible in Vicky 2. You'll always end up with unprofitable subsidized industries that build up into something that cripples the country. If you do it right you'll have no unemployment and incredibly productive industries by the 20th century.
Or you could stop unemployment by having an Agrarian Utopia. Well I'll be testing this. Should I try Russia or the US?
I was made to understand that running subsidized factories for extended periods of time eventually puts your economy into an out of control boom and bust cycle.

With the way debt works you won't be able to flood the market with new currency or increase government spending
to bring the economy back to life... so you basically have a death spiral into bankruptcy unless you cut everything off.
