You give the county to the guy who owns the local castle.

Ah, of course, that explains how I accidentally made Prussia a merchant Republic.

Can't beat turning the HRE into a Merchant Republic.

CK2 is on a -75% daily deal, including all the latest DLC.

Aaand done! The year is now 1399 and that means it's time to save and convert for EU3. The only real power besides the Empire is Pomerania, and their queen is currently married to the Emperor.
Managed to get into a pretty intense war when the Timurids tried to invade Cumania, which culminated in a battle between one of my 300k stacks and their 176.5k stack while I was at -86% warscore.
which Paradox game has the smallest learning curve?
CK2 or EU3

Thanks for the heads up, picked up TOG and the Celtic stuff.
Try copy+pasting your save into the converter's directory. If you drag and drop from your Crusader Kings 2/savegames, it'll give you that error.
Can you explain why every time I attempt to convert a CK2 save literally every country in the world ends up starting with no government, leader or religion? The save is in the same folder as the converter so it should work.

Poland is messed up.
Are you using the converter mod for EU3?
Yeah. The borders come out fine but as far as I can tell the game isn't reading the nation's histories.
So castille is pretty interesting
I made a martial king, took leon, then galicia, then revoked every title (to get rid of the Jimena dynasty), then re-distributed (after destroying the non-leon kingdoms)
next character: (female queen) then I took the 3 duchies of aragon (that are next to each other) and usurped the kingdom of aragon (from the guy who took my crusade win from under me) to make it my primary title, along with moving my capital to barcelona and destroying the old leon kingdom while I had all of the counties/duchies in leon to minimize the opinion penalty.
Now I just need to raise the crown law and change my succession to something better than ultimogeniture.
Castille is a load of fun, they're like a more militaristicly inclined England (if that makes any sense.) Plenty of warring and plenty of back-stabbing, with a healthy dollop of paranoia at the ever present threat of France or the HRE trying to come in and ruin your day. Oh, and their map color is gold, which is just all sorts of awesome.

Why? Thats a good succession law. It ensures you have young heirs. Young heirs generally mean long reigns which bring stability. Stability means expansion and expansion means less stability in the future.
Good fun.
Anybody who doesn't go Elective law is a scrub.

Ultimogeniture master race

Elective isn't as fun. If you want some real fun go full enatic primogeniture. Real scrubs play with succession laws that give relations bonuses and don't inspire major succession wars. Not to mention also allowing you to avoid unlikeable heirs.

Because I kind want to be able to groom an heir, and have it not all be for nothing when someone is born after my genius child, but I do see your point with the young heir/stability thing, so I might try it out.
Elective law is good because once you have a bunch of kids, you can select the best one out of them.
Plus it means you have to keep juggling your vassals around. Keeps you on your toes.

Gavelkind is for real players bro.

Enatic Gavelkind would be utter suicide, oh jeez.
Gavelkind is for real players bro.
Gavelkind is for people who have an insatiable lust for infanticide.
Or divorce.
