Anyone have any good tips for playing CKII? I've managed to play two campaigns now where I ended up with an inept heir being despised and attacked from all flanks within a decade of the start.

I think a general rule of thumb is to only marry people with good traits (this will ensure that good traits pass on to the child), kill off unwanted heirs, avoid vassals and pretenders with the "ambitious" trait (this is often guaranteed to cause trouble), and so on. Also make sure your ruler isn't a dirty heretic or foreigner, of course.
And if you're giving titles, give them to distant family rather than immediate, with exception to the heir.
If you give your titles to immediate family, they'll all fucking have turf wars over the titles, whereas with distant family, they don't have claims on the primary titles.
It's also really good to have it so that the realm is held together by a web of family, since they'll expand on their own if they can, and when they do, they'll have each other as alliances and won't really turn on you unless it's an extreme case or you mismanage kingdom distribution in an empire.
My game is ready for EU4:

Central/Western Europe is Zoroastrian, Rus is Finnic pagan with some Zoroastrian minorities, Bulgaria, the former Eastern Roman Empire and the steppe states are Orthodox (Timurids are Shia of course). There's no Catholicism left beside the Pope (in some Hungarian barony) and a handful of Fraticelli.
I am actaully doing a game of CKII for EU4 conversion now.
Was planning on being an OPM when there was a crusade.
Had the money to buy 5500 mercenaries and 2500 levies+ships and only get minus 7 gold income.
when suddenly

Didn't capture ANY castles/cities but still got it due to just paying alot of money.
Any hints/tips for keeping this together considering my Doge is about to die(very old).

Grant duchies to your family, it will stay in the family and you will then have allies to help you take more land for yourself, enough so that you will get to keep at least ONE of the Republic titles in your hands.
I've created a bunch of baronies, gave the counties themself to my family even though I don't have that many male direct heirs.
As for the republic title, I am making like 30 gold each month with 1 mercenary army raised, going to use that gold to basically buy my way into the title of Republic.
Thanks for the tips though, I have not played CKII that much.

What the hell is going on with Georgia? They have random territories everywhere.
Oh boy, imagine having a mercenary band like The Victual Brothers taking over territory and then playing as them in EUIV. Yarr!

I don't know, they probably got claims everywhere through marriages. Also the king is from a Norse dynasty, the same as Alania (which still has Norse culture).
So I was playing Elder Kings, and I think I made the most free coat of arms ever.

I laughed so hard when I first saw the portraits for the Khajiit and Argonian children in that mod.
I have mended the Great Schism!
Next, the Roman Empire

So the last place I need to form the empire is the Duchy of Ferrara, but I control everything claimed by them, but it says I don't control it in the event requirements.

Long live the The Senate and People of Rome!
how :v:
Pretty much all of these Zoroastrian areas got conquered either by me or by Italy (it was inherited by a Zoroastrian) at some point. Poland/Bohemia was one of the very few places that were converted peacefully.
China strong!!!
In less than three months I managed to kick the Japanese out of Manchuko and Korea. I had only two armored divisions that consisted of M5 stuarts and some armored cars and a TD Brigade and I always used them as a spearhead to get to VPs. I managed to capture Harbin an forced Manchuko to capitulate and destroy the rest of the Japanese divisions that were in Manchuko.

Also, I managed to buy production licenses for P-51D Mustangs and B-24 Liberators from the US and right now I have 10 Chinese P-51 fighters and 6 B-24 Strategic bombers. Made in China :v:
So FP War Committee, what do I now. My neutrality with Communist China and the other cliques in China prevent me from invading them outright and Japan is effectively kicked out of the Asian mainland, the British made a comeback in Southeast Asia and liberated Vietnam. My Navy is far far behind, I invested all of my leadership into the Land Army in order to survive the initial Japanese invasion but now I need a way to get to either the Mainland Japan or take out my surrounding neighbors. Just recently I've been investing a lot into an airforce so that I can strategically bomb Japan, at this moment my P-51D squadron are wrecking the mainland's southern ports and they're encountering no resistance at all.
I'm trying to raise the threat of the Communist Chinese and the other factions with the spies since there's no other way to lower my neutrality since I've suddenly become the most powerful neutral nation out there. 1943 is going by fast and I'm just FFWDin with my troops at the Chinese Communists' borders doing nothing and I'm researching more air and industry tech so that I can manage to self-sustain, my raw materials and rare materials are depleted.
I'm thinking about investing more into the air doctrine and pull off a massive Market Garden Campaign to endlessly drop off paratroopers onto the mainland.
Use air/expendable sea to cover transports and land divisions on the Japanese mainland, should be easy after that. If you go the naval route, build CAs and CLs as they share practicals.
That screenshot is 1941 and you said it's currently '43. What's your current dissent at?

It's at 5% at the start of 1943. The fighting got really quiet after the Japanese got kicked off of the mainland so now I'm just working on manufacturing B-24s and improving my industry.
During '42 I'm just using my fighters to strike ports in Southern Japan
So in my current Old Gods game the only claimants on the throne of Germany are the Karlings, which doesn't sound like much of an issue.
That is until you see that HALF THE FRANKISH NOBILITY ARE KARLINGS

Pretty much why I never really made any expeditions into Germany as Rome.

I could fight it, but it's such an effort to raise a massive levy that it's not worth the time.
