Whoever added the "cannot convert" modifier to Shinto in EU4 can go fuck themselves. 80% of Japan is Catholic, I get 20 man stacks of rebels appearing every month and I won't convert even if rebels break my country. I've spent literally the last hundred years doing nothing but fighting a losing war against rebels who will never succeed but will run my country into the ground anyway.
AI is doing this in my game too, haven't played japan, but yeah, that's dumb. They keep collapsing, over, and over, and over. They've been doing this ever since I discovered them and yeah their japan in 80% catholic.

Its insane how fast Christianity spreads and how much rebellions it causes for Japans. Isolating Japan seems like the only choice. I don't know much about Japanese history but it seems unrealistic.
The Ming don't have it great either. You must have the Eunuch faction in power to advance your tech level and losing the mandate of heaven requires the death of your ruler.

Well, until the middle of the 19th century they were trying to be as isolationist as they could. And there was a Christian rebellion I think, too?

Didn't they kind of forbid all Europeans to enter the country when Sengoku period ended because some people started becoming too powerful thanks to trade money?

Yes, on pain of death.
Literally the legal punishment for europeans setting foot on japanese soil was death.
playing as ottomans and I just realized having too many diplomatic relations drain diplo points
i'm at 12/4, 0 diplo income, and -120 diplo points
:suicide:
Yeah they really need a banner alert for that.

Best thing you can do is the national event to restrict foreigners and it will allow you to gain missionary strength. I've seen AI japan reform to be catholic so I don't understand why players can't. It's all historical however, see what happens if the rebels overthrow your government. I did this in HOI3 to change government types, maybe it works in EU to? I'm not 100% certain.

A monarchy could change into a republic if it's overrun by peasants or revolutionaries, for example.
I don't think religious rebels can change governments, only the state religion, but I might be wrong.
Watching a EU4 game and Austria is such a snake oh god.
They inherited all of burgundy due to an event, so they slither all the way up into the netherlands, the other side goes and stops at the original austria, one province switzerland stopping them.

Every European expect the Dutch(and only because they traded only).
But only on a small 2km square island.
Uhhh...
Don't think about your morals. Just look at it as a business opportunity. You're just providing a product that people want.

I already did. If the rebels win then they all vanish, all my occupied provinces stop being occupied and my state religion doesn't change. Then they start rebelling because I'm not christian and it all happens again in a colossal waste of money and manpower.

Fairly sure that's a bug, exact same thing is happening to AI in my games.
Another CK Converted game, this time as the Croatian Czar of Byzantium.

Oh wow, Mali has the western tech group and is one of the more advanced nations.

I forgot what a fucking pain it was to have a world empire, every two minutes I have to send some men off to put down another shitty uprising in the pacific.

Plus, chances are he's already eradicated several native settlements
What are some years of enslavement to that? :v:
Anyone want to play some coop/vs in Leviathan Warships? Or is everyone too busy playing Europa?

That's why I usually have to slow myself down or stop by the year 1600.
I have this worldwide empire built up but then i realize that having a big, but not that great empire doesn't do much for me.
What I'd like to know is who thought Historical Lucky Nations was a good idea. It seems really contradictory that Europa Universalis has the potential to completely change history as we know it and then they add in a whole bunch of bonuses that means the same old countries get huge bonuses and wind up dominating regardless.
I know you can always turn it off but the fact that it's turned on by default in Ironman really grinds my gears. I just felt they could have made Ironman challenging in other ways other than ensuring that you'll inevitably get double teamed by Spain and France in every single game you play.

I know it's just for the history buffs but I'm venting. One too many French doomstacks where the sun doesn't shine.

Seems like people are progressing on the Ryuku challenge.

French Lucky nation bonus + French Ideas = Dear god WHYYY.
Is HOI3 worth buying? I already own Darkest Hour, but the thing I don't like about Darkest Hour is the lack of detail when it comes to the Order of Battle and the inability to actually organize your armies into army groups, theatres etc.
[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
downloading the demo anyway, just wanted some info
It is worth buying but the expansions are very good for some things(Finest hour has plans).
Just played the demo, I'm so overwhelmed......
I wish Darkest Hour had actual placeable Brigade-sized forces and a Max. Strength Slider so you don't have to waste manpower on a Division on Partisan Duty somewhere.
Darkest Hour far outclasses Hearts of Iron 3 in terms of diplomacy and politics.
