What's the best way to learn how to play these games? I have no experience what so ever in playing any strategy game like this. I purchased this game, and have [I]no[I] idea what-so-ever on what to do. Is there a good tutorial I should watch? Should I just play, not knowing what to do?

What game in specific did you buy? You can check out the wiki, manual etc for it and watch Youtube LPs to get a grasp of how the game works.
You can easily comprehend the features of a game somewhat more easily, though. Usually it's the best to go voice chatting with a veteran if, say, the constantly changing values and icons of Victoria 2 or the billion percentages from HOI3 go over your head, since certain features aren't exactly elaborated upon in the games to their needed extent. Games like HOI3 tend to go into loads of detail, too; depending on what your tech is and whose equipment you use your armies will have different equipment, ranging from A7V's as your starting tanks to SdKfz 234 armored cars with ~125mm artillery turrets and Rolls Royce engines. Of course, the fact that you know how things work in the game doesn't necessarily mean that you know how to play it right; most countries have differing playstyles and you often have to experiment to see what works best in the long run.

I started with someone voice chatting and livestreaming to me how to play eu3 and asking questions with him about how things worked. Not everyone has a "personal grand strategy advisor" so just watch Let's Plays of it, there are a few tutorial-ish let's plays of them.
I bought Europa Universalis 4. Is there any good LPers you'd recommend?
Wow I'm like, legitimately surprised. With all the weird and backwards shit that has been happening in my game so far, the personal union between Brandenburg and Prussia started in 1620, only two years off from the date that it happened in real life. I'm just like, wow holy shit at that.
I bought Europa Universalis 4. Is there any good LPers you'd recommend?
northernlion is doing some lps atm, if you don't mind watching him learn the ropes for the first few videos.
I bought Europa Universalis 4. Is there any good LPers you'd recommend?
Shenryyr, he has 4 playthroughs each with 50-100 25-40 minute parts and he is an excellent commmentator.
I bought Europa Universalis 4. Is there any good LPers you'd recommend?
I rather enjoy watching Quill18 He LPs a lot of paradox games.

JosefVStalin/Dastalinator is good too, he lost a lot of popularity that he used to have tho due to moving to a personal website off of youtube, but he came back awhile ago.

Its crazy how the Iroqois, Kazakhs, Chinese, Persians, Dutch and Spanish all form a coalition with the Indian states I want to conquer. :v: That level of communication is incredible.
I bought Europa Universalis 4. Is there any good LPers you'd recommend?
arumba has an in depth explanation series and than an lp series of eu4, ck2, etc arumba is better and less cringey than quill imo
arumba has an in depth explanation series and than an lp series of eu4, ck2, etc arumba is better and less cringey than quill imo
Isn't arumba the guy who declared a land war on france as portugal and abandoned then entire playthrough because he got his ass kicked so much?
Westernization was boring so I declared war to capture Istanbul. Their allies, France, took over as war leader so I actually spent most of the Westernization process at war: waiting for the occupation score to tick high enough (60%) to make peace. Finally managed to make peace just as a French task force of 90 ships (my navy is almost entirely trade ships) appeared off the coast of Swahili, just a couple of weeks away from landing 40+ stack in my motherland. With the huge tech difference they could have absolutely shredded my massive manpower and eliminated any hope of getting a high enough warscore for Istanbul. Apart from that, Westernization was trivial. Took 16 years. With full religious ideas I have ridiculous tolerance so I simply didn't have any revolt risk.
My friends and I decided our first game should be a multiplayer world domination, sort of. We figured it'd be a good way to learn the controls and whatnot. So yeah, we ended up really powerful and everyone hated us... heh [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/882992508041928279/ACDAA824207A77CD00F55B1ECE193BADF4742C5D/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/882992508041932048/C6E820DC635BBA0B76537C0123B9BF8679850DEF/[/t]
this is screwed up. Muscovy could not form Russia because they were in a personal union with Byzantium.
Anyone want to play MP with a casual EU4 player? http://steamcommunity.com/id/Fausty/
Isn't arumba the guy who declared a land war on france as portugal and abandoned then entire playthrough because he got his ass kicked so much?
He is, but to be fair to him that was his first play through in EUIV. Dude learns by playing and making a ton of mistakes and getting harrassed by his youtube followers. He is a Min/Max player so once he figures his stuff out he is usually pretty good. [editline]9th September 2013[/editline]
Shenryyr, he has 4 playthroughs each with 50-100 25-40 minute parts and he is an excellent commmentator.
I do like Shenryyr a ton and his unique playthroughs (Ceylon/Japan). I also like his game play sessions are longer than the 15-16 minutes that Arumba has. I like Arumba's game, but dude is definitely doing everything he can to get subscribers (Which I get), so he actually made a decision to make shorter videos so he can get more 'thumb' likes and more hits overall, it's a little annoying.
Converted ck2 game from Old Gods start point, completely hands off. Two big-ass Muslim nations previously Andalusia/Hispania and Arabia conquered all of Europe, nearly completely drove Catholicism away, even beat off the Aztecs from England and (almost all of) Spain, then they broke apart with territories from a bunch of different dynasties (france didn't get a dynasty name for whatever reason) spreading out all over Europe, right before eu4. Timurids also ate the seljuks, ilkhanate and golden horde into one bigass blob. Also, reformed Slavic and Tengri. The muslims had only converted and culture converted around 65% of Europe, so I expected them to have rebellions and whatnot, but not to the massive extent that it actually came out to be. [t]http://i.minus.com/iyrMMnsado9fH.png[/t] [T]http://i.minus.com/ibtgvpQFbZf8Pq.png[/T] The game started with the muslim dynasties all declaring punitive wars against the power hungry Abdullahids (aquitaine, aragon, rome, central/southern germany, netherlands, brittany, africa) which were the actual remnants of the proper empire that used to own western europe. While the entirety of europe was in chaos, the aztecs (who actually converted to catholic because of ck2 game mechanics as a OPM in spain, resulting in the mainland america empire converting too.) and sweden were waging an intrigue war against the warring dynasties, because the abdullahids were stubborn as all hell in peacing out they just let catholic zealots roam around and convert everything. While catholic zealots in other dynasties succeeded because they had no military left after fighting eachother. This shit went on for the entire game, with new catholic countries popping up and adding more rebel funding, slowly forcefully converting muslim to christianity. In the end they managed to pull off one gigantc reconquista of western europe, excluding italy. It only took 400 years. [T]http://i.minus.com/i9y0iBCzOWckw.png[/T] [T]http://i.minus.com/i2detr0ohvOtC.png[/T] Other cool things to note, Japan is a united, catholic nation. China is actually united, too. Hindustan formed as a sunni nation, then collapsed and is now a hindu nation in northeast india. And, IncaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH is a world superpower since it was the only nation (there are a few more from seperatist catholics in europe, and other, smaller high americans.) with the western tech group, or "High American" because I used sunset invasion just to see what it would convert to. Aztecs had eastern for whatever reason. Oh, and that the byzantine empire in CK2 was once reduced to this. In my French game, Spain managed to score a PU with Austria early on. Finally in 1632 they inherited them, or integrated them I guess because I never got a 'new monarch' popup that I'd normally see. Either way I'm fucked now.

So was the Colony Name mod removed from steam workshop? I can't find it anymore.
Had a game where Liege took all of France (Observe game.) And Louisiana took all of the North America, beating out the USA. Ah, North America, one grate state under LOUISIANA!
Having powerful vassals is pretty great. I have burgundy as my vassal and they're pretty much a colonial empire that's working along side me. They cover the southern USA, Panama and Colombia, and parts of western Africa.
Is there a way to completely disable rebels in EUIV. It screws my constant and long wars edits.
I really hate the rebels in the Paradox games, they're done fucking god awfully especially in earlier years such as the Middle Ages. (peasants should be pre-occupied in not starving and being happy they're part of a fiefdom, the idea of rebellion every month is a far fetched idea) They basically serve as nothing but a waste of raising levies or some other form of millitary depending on the game and are easily killed. The only game I've had where rebels are challenging are EU but even then they're obnoxious. Rebels need some serious overhaul and re-works in the coming games. I sure as fuck hope East vs West wont have the HOI3 rebels.
I think Victoria had the best rebels.
I think Victoria had the best rebels.
I like them the most in Victoria, but they're just too numerous. If they were less proportionally retarded, they would've been near perfect.
Spain inherits Austria or France in most of my Eu4 games... Am I just unlucky or is this a problem faced by everybody?
