with the republic dlc is it only possible to play as merchant republics and not grand cities? [editline]20th September 2013[/editline] oh I get it, the republic has to be duke level to play
No posts for a day? Shameful. Anyways, I simulated a game up to the default start date, and a few interesting things happened: Byzzies are catholics, both Francia and the HRE are ruled by Queens, Catholic-Norse Scotland/Ireland/Cornwall/Wales, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark remain Norse-Norse, Carpathia and Hungary are seperate, Seljuks went north and a bit south, Perm and Ruthenia hold the majority share of their respective pagan religions. An interesting area I am considering playing is in the Volga-Bulgaria area where a bunch of counts have become independent. But the area is split between 3 religions, and also threatened by 3 major nations; mainly the turks. http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?722644-Patch-1.2-Wot-Johan-said Awesome! [editline]22nd September 2013[/editline] Have not played Darkest Hour in a while, so I loaded it up with Mixed mod, made Germany Communist in 1933 elections. First, the annexed Austria like normal, then Italy declared war on them in 34, Germany won, took all their African Colonies + Albania, converted Italy and made them an ally. Germany then became Left-Wing Radical, elected a Millionaire ex-communist as president. Released Albania, Austria and Libya as Puppets. [editline]22nd September 2013[/editline] Germany declared war on the allies later in '34, and is not doing so well, also I missed it but Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia joined the allies at some point. I should have been more aggressive in Asia and Germany. At least I got Poland into space without having to westernize.
I find EU3 to be ridiculously easy on the standard settings, I played my first game as Byzantium and I conquered everything that can be considered the Eastern Empire and Rome itself and I was always ~3 techs ahead of everyone else in Europe even with the Eastern Tech and DotF malus. Also, the fact that you have to convert everyone that you conquer or else face awful stability costs and revolt risks is the worst idea ever.

The Old Gods CK2 has a bunch of auto spawned event troops for civil wars and random host armies that appear out of nowhere that are auto balanced to have as much troops as you. That, with the idea of difficulty in eu4 being "press a button to spend the same stuff you spend on tech on fighting rebels and economy" is stupid. I dislike that system because it's annoying and boring, and because it doesn't really make sense that just because your nation is instable or you're expanding that you're behind technologically and economically.
I find the military points are a real problem in EU4 because you almost never spend them and this leads to the AI even in China being around your level.
I just hope that someone like Gigau, Nasleus or Wiz will come along and do a complete overhaul of the entire system and make it better [editline]23rd September 2013[/editline]
I find the military points are a real problem in EU4 because you almost never spend them and this leads to the AI even in China being around your level.
Yeah, military tech is the easiest thing to end up being multiple techs ahead of everyone else. Although I support the idea of China itself keeping up with Europe technologically, it shouldn't be able to do so on a consistent basis through the 18th and 19th centuries
Buildings having points is kind of bad for me. It would be much nicer if level 6 buildings gave a tiny boost to monarch points in the respective area, plus it would be an incentive to develop existing land. Countries with a lot of coastline (since they could build docks) would also get more diplo points, which I find interesting.
Buildings costing points is another problem I have. It means as a large empire I'll be unable to improve the majority of my land, even if I'm swimming in endless cash.
I find the military points are a real problem in EU4 because you almost never spend them and this leads to the AI even in China being around your level.
Spend them on the latest military tech and idea's? Asia is incredibly backwards so I don't see your problem. I'm glad they can at least stand up to Europe but its an easy place to expand.
Buildings costing points is another problem I have. It means as a large empire I'll be unable to improve the majority of my land, even if I'm swimming in endless cash.
Just build factories and stuff. Your ducats will evaporate.
Spend them on the latest military tech and idea's? Asia is incredibly backwards so I don't see your problem. I'm glad they can at least stand up to Europe but its an easy place to expand. Just build factories and stuff. Your ducats will evaporate.
believe me this is not the case, when you have a big enough empire and enough ideas to get you money, you are basically in endless cash wonderland, the only thing limiting you is power points. I've developed all factories I could, but it doesn't seem worth the points to build up the basic building everywhere when you could just be focusing on tech, because larger empire = more building = more points. When really the buildings only amount to more cash, it seems we need more things to spend money on, and less things to spend points on. [editline]23rd September 2013[/editline] see:
[T]http://i.minus.com/izCLp3aPfFc9m.png[/T] I honestly have no idea what to do with this money anymore. There is too much of it. I have enough money to fund a modern million man army in 1732 if I had the forcelimits. [T]http://i.minus.com/i9wn1qqar7F6U.png[/T] I could just keep building stuff but I don't need to build anything more, most buildings just produce more money. I've built all manufacturer buildings possible, and the only stuff I could build is basic buildings and forts, both of which I have no need for as basic buildings just make more money (and waste monarch points) and I have an army 3x the size of any other in the world. Any ideas?
[editline]23rd September 2013[/editline] This is also probably the reason the natives have so much money, lots of gold sources, no tech so no buildings/less manpower/ less forcelimits, less techpoints, and considering that everything that costs money besides military for a colonial nation costs monarch/techpoints, they can't afford to spend the money.
Remember that shitty game Pride of Nations?
Remember that shitty game Pride of Nations?
What was wrong with PoN? I thought it was was a interesting and enjoyable game.
So, update on previous handsoff game. The ilkhanate invaded. Hard. They squished the byzantines, carpathians, russians, and muslims all either off the map, or to the west. The results are pretty... strange. First: Political mapmode. This is around 100 years after the peak of the mongol invasion, they are in a state of rebellion, but they used to own all of russia, anatolia, greece, persia, egypt, cumania, and even hungary at one point. The Timurids took persia/mesopotamia away. Carpathia, a very strange empire whose territories were pushed further and further west after each invasion, ended up in norway, scotland, prussia, hungary, and most recently, germany. Francia is now owned by englishmen, and Aquitaine was taken by Castillian muslims, and then taken back by the HRE, and is now being attacked by the muslims again. HRE used to own germany, but is again being pushed further west by invading hungarian tengri's. And the muslims are all just " get the fuck out please stop pushing them over here please I just want to unite hispania " Which is now including de jure Aquitaine. Next up: Religious Mapmode. Christendom, completely broken due to invasions, united under Waldensianism. This is probably how France/England merged, with england invading a Waldensian Francia and then converting. Or vice-versa. Funnily enough, the pope now lives with the only catholic nation left: The Byzzies. Which are also rapidly falling to Cathar heresy. The rest of the world and all the other empires are; well, blue. Reformed Tengri rues the day yet again, dominating everything. Next up: Culture Mapmode "We are the Mongol. Resistance as you know it is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own." Yeah, as expected, Mongols ate the muslims and the russians. And the greek. Hungarian is spread everywhere like jizzstains, English people decided to populate eastern france. Castillians actually rule Iberia rather than bedouins or berbers, but are still islamic. So yeah, pretty fucked up map. Oh, and a bonus: Culturally confused scotland! Conquered by norsemen, russians, hungarians, castillians, welsh, greek, the scots just couldn't catch a break after they united 400 years back. Hell, even some norwegian.
guys eu4 got patch papal state and ragusa ideas are op goddamn pageking
I like how they added a Qing tag. It's a minor change really but it was so ridiculous to see China being called Manchu on later start dates, and Ming having a decision to become Manchu.

I'm starting to believe there's a gay gene in Crusader Kings as all of my offspring are homosex.
Just tried out EUIV MP for the first time. Damn that game is cool when you're playing with other human players. It really comes into a awesome but different feeling game. Shame I just land up desyncing though. :<
I'm starting to believe there's a gay gene in Crusader Kings as all of my offspring are homosex.
The most hardcore campaign; a Zoroastrian all-female homosexual dynasty starting as a OTM.
The 1000 offspring challenge as an Islamic dynasty.
I had about 800 members at the end of my Croatia game thanks to handing out Mediterranean counties and duchies left and right to members of House Trpimirovic until they composed ~80% of the high nobility. The byproduct was that half the nobility had a claim on at least one kingdom in the empire. :v:

You have to divide it up but to where there's alliances among the family to where it's distant gets it and such. I guess as Islam it's a bit different but if you're patient, you can do it easily as Christians. I managed to put a habsburg on the Byzantine throne, Aragon-Portugal-Bordeux-Britanny, and Leon-Castille throne, which merged as a result of marriages, The duchies of HRE Austria, though again, main branch was in Spain, Egypt Throne after a crusade, Had about half of Poland before that branch kind of died out, various duchies in Germany, Hungarian throne, Croatian Throne, and some others. This was all through Marriage aside from a few things like the crusades and restoring the Byzantine crown to the habsburgs. I started the game in 1066 as the one county habsburgs in Switzerland btw.
So... I did a hands off, no changes at all, starting at 1933 Oh god... So for my first game of Darkest Hour, I tried to play Poland. It ended about as well as you would think. What I was disappointed about in my soldiers was there was no 40 to 1 epic last stand or anything of the sort. It was just a massacre that usually had the Germans losing a quarter of my losses each battle. I think I now have a lot more respect for the Poles who fought the Germans back then.

Germany not only has more troops at the start of the game, but the casualty ratio between it and me was 1:1000. I'm sure that in some battles no German soldiers died. Also in BICE Germany doesn't have to go to any kind of war until Poland, and even then I'm sure the game forces them to get all 1939 tech and upgrades before that, along with special unkillable units.
