Fuck White people.
Some of the shit that happens in CK2 reads like a Greek tragedy.
So my Emperor, Nikolaos, is married to a Carpathian princess. Pleasant enough woman, she's his lover, but I haven't gotten any kids from her beyond a measly no-stat girl. He starts plotting to kill her, the percentages are high enough that it triggers almost immediately. It was going to be a bandit ambush.
Nikolaos's wife found out like two days before the assassination triggered. Even with that foreknowledge, she was still at +100 relationship. She just loved Nikolaos too damn much. She died, but everyone found out.
Nikolaos got the stressed trait.
A year later the wife of my character's brother caught the Emperor's eye. I wanted to stop it, but I had no choice but to "go to her bedchambers and give her a good tumble." Eight months later, my brother declared a Host Claim on me. In the shadows of the Theodosian Walls of Constantinople I received word that my brother's wife had a kid. It was Nikolaos's, but my brother (Belisarios) was none the wiser. I broke my brother's army that day and had him promptly imprisoned.
Under normal circumstances I would banish Host Leaders, or just release them.
Nikolaos had Belisarios blinded.
Even in his ragged condition, he had like a +25 relationship with Nikolaos, which meant he still liked the Emperor to some degree. Realizing I was becoming a monster, I built him a nice castle in Poitiers while I dealt with a Jihad for Jerusalem.
A month after finishing the war (complete with a Triumph, the first in like 120 years) Nikolaos started hearing voices. He lost his stressed trait and gained lunatic.
I'm still wondering where this will go.
For those who like the Mixed Mod for Darkest Hour, a new version came out the 24th of October

Ah, Darkest Hour. Those mods need more work. Kaiserreich has to be the most fun and enjoyable mod ever. I mean, literally, each country has a ton of events and paths to take. It's not like you won't have fun if you choose that god forsaken asiatic/latin american country.
Plus, the ACW II, awesome.
I've got the weirdest war going on right now,
Soviets Vs. Democratic Germany and Romania
Soviets Vs. Poland
Left-Wing France Vs. Germany and Romania
France Vs. Soviets
France has a bunch of rebels in Africa.
Also made the US a Monarchy and now there is a second Civil War going on :v:

America Rebels from the Panama Canal spread into Panama.
Historically the Romans were never too interested in the lands beyond their final borders. The lands were too poor, the people too fierce, etc. etc. Instead, what the Romans did was install buffer states between them and the world beyond the world (since many Romans considered everything within the borders to constitute the world, hence ecumenical.) They called it "non-aggressive Imperialism."
Considering that your save is nearly a millennium after Diocletian's rule and that the condition of land and people's in Europe as well as "Roman" thought would not just remain static there is no reason to say that any sort of Roman state would simply sit at Trajan's borders.
I really need some sound advice here:

I'm sitting with this empire in 955 and as you'll easily notice, this is my first game in Ck2 ever. I'm emperor of a 521 or so county realm, yet my demesne is only one county and that's the one NOT visible on the map; Venice. I panicked early-game when my vassals started hating on me, and just gave shit left right and center. The consequence is that some random norwegian has jarldoms in britain and vice versa. Everything is fucked to shit in that regard. Zero order and for some odd reason, no one is paying tax, even though i'm on good enough terms with them to do so and my feudal taxation is at low.
It's a death-spin upside-down that i can't get out of. Some of my vassals now have more prestige and wealth than me, as i haven't got a demesne worth speaking of. My title of Emperor and fylkir (norse reformed religious head) have more or less become of equal stature of modern constitutional monarchies. If i sign off on something, it's all good. if i don't, they'll remove me and it's all good.
Embrace the Fun. If everything was stable and alright, it'd be boring. Your empire may shatter, but that'll just mean you get a chance to reconquer it.
Also, giving people territories in fucked up places isn't that bad an idea, because then they have to deal with their own vassals who dislike them for hailing from another culture and whatnot.
I'm having a hard time having fun namely because i'm so busy being scared shitless of it all exploding under me. I want all of Denmark as my Demesne, but seizing it will piss everyone off. I only JUST discovered that you don't have to go manually scour each and ever count's children for marriage, but can just click the rings in the menu to see viable mates. I have so much to learn, but soaring this high in my first attempt has made me overly careful, which is ironic when looking at how messy it all is under the hood.
[editline]3rd November 2013[/editline]
Exactly.
Also. can someone explain to me why technological advancement is different in each county instead of each realm or at least demesne? also, why is religion conversion rate this slow?
Don't be scared of losing it all. Look at it as an alternative history: it has its ups and downs, what truly matters is that it becomes one hell of a story. And that even if your empire collapses, you avoid a game over so you can plot your revenge.
The longer you go preventing things going wrong just means the more spectacularly things will go wrong when it inevitably happens.
I had Italy and Poland join forces to fight the Soviets in Darkest Hour.
What.
meanwhile Fascist France takes on Democratic Germany.
I love breaking history.
I gotta say, if this is truly your first game of CK2, you are doing amazingly well.
Went ahead and stopped being a pussy about losing everything. This is what happened:

I'm now king of england AND denmark. That instigating bitch is in my cell now.
Also. The moment i came of age, i discovered that everything but by diplomacy stat was shit. Coincidentally, it was that Diplo stat that stopped everyone plotting constantly. Thank god for grey eminence!

Randomized New World, more Native American nations, new Native Mechanical, new Colonial Mechanics.
almost sounds like Colonies will be more like Vassel
Sounds damn cool, but I'm 10 times more excited for the CKII DLC.
Yeah, agreed. I'll hold my judgement on the randomised Americas until they show off more of it
This Eu4 DLC gave me a boner.
Aaarhg why the fuck does Chile, Argentina always declare war to Peru-Bolivia at the same fucking time as fucking Peru starts throwing shit in PoD
Chile is also retardedly overpowered

expansion , sorry .
Rather unfortunate to hear about this, but at least we know theres plans for it.
I'm curious about expelled jews though; do they go to nearby, tolerant realms, is it resolved quickly like normal banished characters? Welcoming expelled jews? I'm interested where that may go.
The new dlc sounds great to me. I always complained about how much you had to manage Colonies and how I wished that they handled like they did in real life as Vassals more than anything else. Like Canada was a colony, while the maritime provinces were controlled as a direct entity. Stuff like that with having a main staging area and an expanding vassal is much easier to control and defend than to stretch yourself out defending europe and the new world.
I did "die CAS" for about a minute nonstop, what the fuck does it take to give Castile a Regency council?

Does anyone know how Gamestop handles digital stuff? Say for example I buy some of CK II's DLC, would I get a steam key?
[del]CK2 is Steam only anyway.[/del] Oops
CK2 is Steam only anyway.
No it's not. EUIV is.
It caused issues when the EUIV preorder bonus of the save converter was announced as there were a bunch of people who were mad that they could not get the save converter to work with their non-Steam CKII and Paradox was kicking themselves for listening to that minority.
...And to think I've even got the non-Steam version of CK2 on Gamersgate.
CK2 isn't Steam-only but as far as I know the only place where you don't get it in the form of Steam keys is GamersGate.
