After seeing about 70 minutes of gameplay footage, I had assumed it would be FAR glitchier and laggier than it is. My 5 year old computer can run it fairly decently, I only ever get drops in framerate when there are numerous lighting effects in one area. All the weapons, executions (especially the head stomps) and explosions feel satisfying and there is a decent amount of emergent gameplay. I was about to do something slightly spoilery when suddenly a stray vehicle was spooked by my machinegun, slammed through the building and then blew up, dealing with the canned meat and human shields inside. This is actually really fucking good. Far, far better than I was expecting. At the moment, I'd say it's a 7/10, but when the issues are fixed and mod support is released, I reckon it'll be a 8.5 or a solid 9.
I want to try out this game, but it's banned in Australia. Oh well.
I want to try out this game, but it's banned in Australia. Oh well.
It actually wasn't banned. The developers never submitted it for classification - probably because they knew it'd be banned. :v:
I think the destruction in this game and the use of Unreal Engine 4 in general works very well. It's incredibly satisfying to see the level around you get torn to shreds, and it's probably one of the nicest looking "top-down shooters" (in quotes because it's not really a TDS but has that feel to it) I've ever seen.
I think they mentioned modding support at some point.
They mentioned that in an off-hand comment once a while back, but I haven't seen any indication of them following up on it, so I find it hard to believe. Especially since people tout it a feature when it doesn't even exist.
Playing this makes me feel dirty

I wouldn't get my hopes up for it.
I want to try out this game, but it's banned in Australia. Oh well.
There's allways a way!
It's funny, this is actually a really good tech demo for UE4, and Epic have been looking for games to come out that are running UE4 for their advertising campaign. And then one of the first UE4 games is this, which is totally unmarketable :v:
Are you sure it is a good tech demo? The performance is really bad, while running a a playable framerate it absolutely janks your gpu usage up to ludicrous levels. When I first started it I thought that I had a bitcoin miner of my computer.
The only FPS drops I get is while executing. What bothers me the most though is the graphical issues, such as clipping trough walls, bushes, tables, etc.
The update has increased the amount of stuttering, and now I don't even reach 25 fps (20-70 fps before), it's mostly around 15
So after watching a few gameplay videos and recovering from the extreme cringe, I came to the conclusion that this game is horribly boring and had only the controversy going for it
So after watching a few gameplay videos and recovering from the extreme cringe, I came to the conclusion that this game is horribly boring and had only the controversy going for it
Nope. It's a well made isometric shooter with fun, challenging and dynamic gameplay (believe it). Problem is, it's not THAT well made and has several problems with controls and camera. Another thing is the sudden difficulty curve because when military joins the fray you get ventilated from beyond your FOV (and they like to concentrate fire so you die VERY QUICKLY). Also, Hatred is too short. Only 7 levels is too few. I hoping for a map pack or something because this got ton of potential. P.S. Honestly, I expected ULTRA VIOLENCE but this is rather tame. COD World at War was more violent tbh. Also hoping on mods that will fix it. P.P.S. I swear, I'll be in stitches when they will add killable children and animals, moralfags will go ballistic and it will be hillarious.
Hatred is really one of those games you have to experience yourself to enjoy. Lets plays really don't do it justice. The first gameplay footage I saw (t'was TotalBiscuit) made me assume it was going to be absolutely piss poor and overly repetitive, but when I actually played it myself I loved it. That being said, it's a fairly niche game. If you don't enjoy hammy B movies or twin stick shooters it's probably not the game for you.
So after watching a few gameplay videos and recovering from the extreme cringe, I came to the conclusion that this game is horribly boring and had only the controversy going for it
Saying this in the Hatred thread is obviously going to get disagrees, but you're right. I was watching this thread to see peoples' opinions after release, but I forgot this thread even existed because no one is talking about it. Game discussion threads are most active after release, but we're only 46 posts in. That says a lot about when all discussion disappears immediately after release. The only thing Hatred has going for it, is the belief that modding will save it. If the developers follow up on their off-hand comment.
Isometic shooters are a very niche genre, it's not surprising in the slightest that this thread isn't very active. Being a big isometric shooters fan myself, hatred is a very competent and enjoyable title, if a bit badly optimized and with a few questionable design choices. Some people just can't judge games by their merits rather than the hype surrounding it. They expected the second coming of the anti-christ and instead they found an average twin stick shooter, therefore it must suck. I'd probably say it isn't worth the current price because of the lenght, but decent isometric shooters are far and inbetween so I'm not complaining
It honestly felt like a mobile game minus the physics
It honestly felt like a mobile game minus the physics
It felt like a budget title you'd find on XBLA or PSN.
tldr hatred isn't worth twenty dollars. the "campaign" can be beaten in just a couple hours. the devs said it takes about eight to beat it, but even with fucking around i beat it under two hours on hard difficulty. it's a no-brains-required slaughterfest that plays way too easily in the first four-five levels. when you get to the downtown area it becomes more difficult but by then you're almost done with the game. the worlds are small and samey and there's no dynamic objectives or anything to make you want to play it a second (god forbid a third) time. every level is different, but the differences are so minute that it doesn't change the levels at all. i like this game and all but for the price you aren't getting half of what they make you think you're getting a lot of people complain about running out of ammo too easily and all of these other petty things but my main complaint is that the game only has maybe ten dollars worth of content to it at best. without an sdk you're pretty much overpaying for what was said above: an xbox live arcade title [editline]6th June 2015[/editline] i'm hoping the next dlc addition is a school
the most fun part was blowing up buildings tbh
yeah, i hope if when the sdk comes out there's more destruction mods they should have just made it a robot game or something terminator esque where you just have to do as much collateral damage as possible rather than up your bodycount
So buy it when it's on sale?
I would. Though it can be super frustrating at times.
There is an a program which unpacks, the games .pak file. With a Unreal 4 Project included. Trying to import the .uasset files to the Unreal 4 stock editor to no success, most likely the assets are cooked.
Meanwhile, first fanart started popping up. [T]http://40.media.tumblr.com/b5e7de6ff42d86727aab2b3c9816b512/tumblr_nof2omVvjT1rphc69o1_1280.jpg[/T] [T]http://40.media.tumblr.com/a092ae3dac485427a70fd3a77110b757/tumblr_nof2omVvjT1rphc69o2_1280.jpg[/T]
