So the T-34E pack is now available if you're not a Ruskie. For an uparmored T-34, 2000 Gold, and a month of premium - it's not a bad pack.
The amount of tree-shooting-through going on in even Realistic is fucking stupid. I've been seriously enjoying WT Tanks so far, and I've played for like 5 hours today alone, but the rest of the game considered while playing in Realistic mode, I can't get over how dumb this spotting system is. Not dumb in the same way WoT's is dumb. Dumb in that, unlike in WoT, gunnery is actually a player skill, but being able to shoot well is just as important in WT as being able to "game" the red rectangles when you can't actually see your target. It's a lot like how dumb Battlefield is, with all its dust, smoke, and atmospherics laid underneath the omniscient spotting system. They clash in the same way everything about WT does with WT's spotting system. [editline]17th May 2014[/editline] oh that was cool i guess i was within the "box" of a rock so the game didn't show ANY red rectangles for me.

I've got a quick question for everyone, If I want fast medium tanks which nation should I play with? The Germans mediums appear to be faster on paper, with higher top-speeds and more horsepower. Though it won't mean much if they accelerate considerably slower than their russian counterparts.
This just in: T50s are dumb

The German heavies seem faster than Russian heavies.

This isn't like world of tanks where you can get a 70 ton medium up to 65km/h without throwing a track. The terrain in WT GF doesn't really allow you to hit your top speed very often.

RB sits in an uncomfortable, and frankly awful, place in between arcade and simulator. It doesn't have the silly cursor to let you effectively shoot through cover like arcade, but it still has the nametags which allow you to just guess and shoot in the general direction while hoping for the best. It's completely stupid and unfun for both the shooter and target. Until we get a real spotting system the nametags above enemy players absolutely ruins RB on so many levels. In SB, there's no nametags at all, and the gameplay is vastly improved for it. It's difficult to apply blanket statements to this though, so I'll break it down for both sides by era. Speed is life in War Thunder. It gives you the flexibility to attack from surprise directions and to control the map in ways that a heavy tank could only dream of. Speed rarely plays into actual gunplay which is what Trunk Monkay was getting at. Instead, speed is invaluable for putting yourself into position to kill tanks with surprise attacks. Era 1: BT-7 and T-50 are silly fast with fantastic guns. Germany has nothing to match it. They're both great fun to use, but keep in mind the T-50 has a broken damage model making it take a lot more hits than it should be able to. Era 2: The PzIVs, despite being bigger, are the faster of the German Era 2 mediums. They also have a great gun in the PzIV F2. T-34s on the other hand sacrifice gun depression and muzzle velocity for better armor and slightly more agility. Era 3: The Panther is huge and heavy. It has a high top speed, but it'll take a long time to get there. It also has an amazing gun and frontal armor. The T-34-85 on the other hand is much more agile and able to drive circles around a Panther due to its lightness. However, the T-34-85 has no appreciable armor compared to the Panther so you have to be extremely careful. It's easy to put yourself into bad spots and it's very unforgiving. Era 4: Same story as Era 3, except replace the T-34-85 with the T-44. I guess in general, you could say the Russians are better at this, especially at lower tiers. However once you get to Era 3, and especially 4, it becomes very hard to work around the Panthers and King Tigers when your gun is so underpowered compared to theirs. To do well in a T-44, you really have to outplay your enemy because being more nimble, and only marginally so, is literally your only advantage.
So are the custom skins visible to other players?
I've come to a conclusion Fuck APCR. The default rounds are better. APCR has better penetration but it goes right through and does minimal damage. Default rounds have adequate penetration at most ranges you encounter, and really slam shit once inside the tank I just wrecked shit with default rounds, one tank after another after another in Sim, where APCR, I shot a KV-1 at about 800m 25 times (Still higher penetration at this range than standard rounds), with the majority of the hits going through, but doing nothing

You aren't supposed to use one round, period. If your standard shell can't go through, ONLY THEN go with APCR. It's only more so important on the T-34-57 mod43 where the 57mm APCR has so anemic behind-armor-damage that sometimes I feel like I have to specifically headshot individual crewmembers to disable the tank. Once I shot a Panther's lower glacis, it disabled his frontal transmission and then damaged his engine, in the very rear. The rounds are ridiculously overpenetrative.
This isn't anything new. Just venting my frustration in the ground forces research tree in picture form. [t]http://i.imgur.com/kwZYStL.png[/t]
Seriously, this is the dumbest thing ever and they didn't even say anything about it when tonks went open beta. (because this wasn't the case in CBT) They introduced the individual researching system with the aim of being able to obtain that one vehicle we focus on at a faster rate, but now we get a completely opposite thing that is worse than WoT grindfest.
Still a beta and things can change.
Hopefully they will. But why would they make it that bad in the first place, when everything was just fine? Not talking about the rp/lions gain rate, because that was obviously increased for testing purposes and they did mention that, but they never said anything along the lines of "Oh, the amount of tanks you need to research to unlock the next rank is also lowered, you'll have to get pretty much everything to do so after we go obt. Sucks to be you."

What about HEAT rounds? Do they suffer the same fate?
Something you guys might want to pay attention to with different shell types is the weight of the payload. APCR isn't ineffective only because it's over-penetrating; it's usually 2/3 the mass of a regular APCBC round of the same caliber. I've found that the heavier the payload, the better chance you're going to destroy whatever the round hits, be that the engine, the ammo stowage, the gun, or the tank itself. As far as HEAT rounds go, I've not used them enough to form any ideas as to their effectiveness, but since the payload has the same armor penetration capabilities at all ranges and it's essentially an explosive round, I'd imagine it wouldn't be too dissimilar to penetrating with a lower-yield HE shell. Again, payload weight is going to play a pretty significant factor in the effectiveness of the round, though.

Playing tier 3. Oh look here come the russians, lets see what they have... A kv-1, theres a kv-1, another kv-1, oh two more kv-1's. oh and up the back they have another kv-1.

Battles in GF AB are too short. Just had a battle which lasted only 2:29, and I spent 2 minutes in the battle just fixing my gun barrel. If enemy team manages to take all 3 points it usually means your team already lost as it takes too long to cap a point and your team just gets drained of all tickets.
Implying it matters what the russians have, the sherman outplays everything at the low tiers.
See everyone says that yet im yet to actually kill one even when I get the drop from behind, 90% of my shells just get eaten by the metal and damage nothing no matter where I hit
Was just killed by a tank that only appeared into visibility right before my eyes after they had killed me. Well, looks like tanks is completely shit.
Was just killed by a tank that only appeared into visibility right before my eyes after they had killed me. I saw a friendly tank drive past me but only because thanks to the track marks appearing on the ground. When I tried to drive through the invisible tank, I collided with it. But since it never shot at me, I presume it was friendly. It never went visible. [editline]18th May 2014[/editline] Not even the marker displayed at all.

And there are still the invisible rocks of completely random suspension-and-transmission-and-track failure.
Theres also tons of places where the effects from tanks firing play for no reason
Lol, just got out of a game where half the team were complaining that Germans need a buff because their stock Pz IVs weren't one-shotting T34s. I'm like Wehraboo #1 in this thread and I think Germans are OP as hell right now. What are these people on about?
