American gets off pretty easy. Russia has a few bad areas right before jets. Germany has a rough super early start and area around jets. Bongs are almost solid through and through, save the bad bombers. Japan is only for the most honorable, grizzled of men.
B-25 is god of war, do not mess.
The trick it you don't play it as a bomber but as an extremely obese attacker/fighter. You never try to pretend enemies aren't there; you either try to get them to head-on or otherwise get your guns on them, or if everything fails, do evasive maneuvers while peppering them with your buttguns.
I played the PBJ couple days ago and shot down THREE [B]Yak-9T[/B]s, only failing to make it back to the base because the hills of Kuban are too tall (one engine was dead).

I'm not saying it's not a god of war. What I'm saying is that I've wanted to kill myself after nabbing 3-6+ enemy fighters in it only to look at the scoreboard and see that apparently I was the only one that got the memo about this being war. IE I was the only one who had kills. Something about that specific range of BR for American teams always makes them turbo retarded, least in my experiences.

F4U-1c is actually really great and amazing and probably [I]still[/I] undertiered, it's just the D and A are massively undertiered for what is basically almost the same plane (except the flight models are bugged and the D is faster at all altitudes).
The Naval US line is EZ game EZ life all the way up until the Panther.

I found this out recently after finally deciding to try and get the tempest II. I thought the 1b wouldn't be too great from having the premium, but it is actually pretty good.

Thing is, in War Thunder, when you lose a wing, you don't lose half a wing. You lose 3/4 of it.
They really need to fix the damage system. Getting back to base with half a wing off would be so fucking awesome.

Nah, you can definitely lose just a wingtip
it happens more in some planes that others, like the Zero tends to lose wingtips a lot
On bearcat losing the aileron equals wing lost. To be fair, the aileron makes up for considerable amount of the wing surface but still, it's silly.
Yeah in regards to American planes I've grinded almost all the way through to era 5 and the only one I haven't really liked is the B-17 which feels like a noticeably less enjoyable B-25.
I'm not fond of the P-47 either just because mine feels unusable; every time I try to fly it the wing gets clipped off by a Stuka gunner or some shit. Damage models in the planes section of War Thunder are the most infuriatingly cryptic things for me to understand.

Japan is good if you avoid the Zeroes unless you accept first that you're probably going to just get out-sped all game. Ki-84s are the best props in the game and the Ko is basically worse for balance than the Hellcat.
Also B-17s are worse than B-25s because they're less interesting. B-25 you can sort of dogfight and strafe stuff with. B-17 is spacebar slapper 2014.

Just putting this out there, does anyone remember the time when corsairs could fly with no wings in arcade?
Like you were just an engine but for some reason the game still considered you to have the ability to fly completely normally, you were just a little bit slugish.
