donut get the D-13, almost every german has it, yet they remain horrible at it and lose most games.
I fly a D-13 and I see so goddamn many other D-13s, the pilots fly like shit but I usually die to D-9s.
D-9 is geared for the actual altitudes people fight at in War Thunder. D-12/13 are meant for way higher up. Ta 152 is meant for low Earth orbit.
Ta-152 is kinda bad now, it used to have unreal energy retention but they've completely over-gimped it. D-12/13 are better in every way. Ta-152 should be way more agile than it is, especially for a plane with a lower wing loading than the Mustang.
So for grinding out the high tier Germans is the D-9 the best choice than? I was considering Talismaning the 152 since it shares the D-13's BR, but you guys are saying its kind of junk atm. Alternatively, would the 162 be worth a Talisman since it appears to be the best German jet (with matchmaking taken into account)?

Bf-109 vs Fw-190 is purely a personal preference thing though. [editline]29th August 2014[/editline] Do-217s are decent bombers too but being a spacebar slapper is about the least fun thing imaginable.
Alternatively, would the 162 be worth a Talisman since it appears to be the best German jet (with matchmaking taken into account)?
If you're really good at it, go for it. Focus not on what's "the best", focus on what gives you the most RP. Though doing it in an Era V will marginally (10%~?) make grinding other jets easier than an IV plane.
I wouldn't put talisman onto any jet for multiple reasons: - You lose efficient progress to era 3 planes. Even if you got everything, they might add more planes later. Era 4 with talisman will be great for grinding it. Era 5 with talisman will be shit at grinding era 3 planes. - Jet balance is fickle and unsure and there's higher chance your Jet will become trash in the meta of the very next patch. Props tend to be more balanced and reliable - Particularly the 162 has quite low ammo count but in general, jets usually have fewer opportunities to get kills and almost never can get away with grinding ground targets, and even if you can do well with them and win matches, you just won't have the grinding potential you would have with a prop.
Good advice everybody, thanks. For tier 3's I already have the D-13 which I'm routinely shooting down jets in now, so I'm not at all worried about that, but the longer amounts of time between matches at 5 as well as the terribly confusing jet balance makes for a strong argument against the 162. I seem to be shitty with 109's so is the D-9 really that much better than the D-13? It seems like it'll fight nearly identical opponents but that it handles a lot worse. Does its low altitude specialty just mean it climbs and accelerates better at War Thunder heights?
I decided to take my Ki102 into RB because that plane is funny as hell got New Guinea, proceeded to fly to 3500, saw enemy fighters clustered around 3000, dove through their formation while critically damaging a P63, then dove into friendly ships at 700kph I managed to kite their entire team, then proceeded to out turn all their single engine fighters except spitfires while my team did mop up work. Easy win.

D-12 and 13 only really come into their own once you hit about 8km height (though they are still good planes below it, D-9 is simply a flat upgrade).

It doesn't have the D-13s powered ailerons which is a quite massive disadvantage while B&Zing which you should always do in a Dora. The lack of the centerline 20mm is also, while not fatal, still tangible (the 13mm MGs do jack shit. The D-9 is perfectly fine with just 2 20s, but 3 is just 3). I concede to D-9 being a better plane than D-13, but I genuinely don't think that it's worth throwing talisman on if you already have D-13 as it's a plane that has actual disadvantages traded for sheer engine performance while low.
I just unlocked the first Ki-84 after flying Zeroes. Is there anything I should know? I get the feeling it's going to trade the silly maneuverability for some more speed.

You will win pretty much every time.
well theres your problem. arcade [editline]29th August 2014[/editline] terrible rewards [editline]29th August 2014[/editline] Also terrible FM and combat in general
Just remembered why i don't play RB: (first win of the day too) Spend 10-15 mins climbing, then get damaged as soon as you get to the clouds, try to get back to the airfield, get shot down along the way or on the airfield. YEAH, RB IS SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING AND FUN. At least in arcade, I could have earned 2k+ rp in that time frame.
Get shot down once in RB or get shot down 5 times in AB. At least in historical you can maneuver to get enemies off your tail, in arcade once somebody's on you it's over.

I dont get how you guys subject yourselves to spend that much time just climbing and fight in engagements that last for a minute.
I dont get how you guys subject yourselves to spend that much time just climbing and fight in engagements that last for a minute.
Because the fights consist of positioning, maneuvering, vehicle performance, and the stakes are higher. It's not a competition of who can drag the mouse harder and then respawn for a revenge kill from higher altitude. :v:
I dont get how you guys subject yourselves to spend that much time just climbing and fight in engagements that last for a minute.
I sometimes ask myself the same thing, especially considering I always spend the first 5 minutes of the game alt-tabbed with my attention elsewhere. I guess it's just the lesser of two evils. I love taking screenshots of War Thunder. It's so photogenic. I was messing around with the PostFX settings and found some settings that fixed a lot of my annoyances with how dark the game looks because of the aggressive HDR. I think it looks a lot better.
I dont get how you guys subject yourselves to spend that much time just climbing and fight in engagements that last for a minute.
It's way more intense and much more gratifying. Also I have a 2nd monitor and play in a window
Bloody hell, just managed to kill 6 Japanese planes and towards the end killed all 3 that were chasing me up to 22000 feet. single handily won the match alone using the P47D thunderbolt with everyone dead. Probably will be the best Realistic Battle game ever and I thought I would lose. P47 thunderbolt is really solid, half of those kills were head ons, those 50 cals are not to be underestimated.

Some people are quite intense. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/9152-ultimate-fw190-photo-evidence-thread/
I dont get how you guys subject yourselves to spend that much time just climbing and fight in engagements that last for a minute.
For those sweet lions and hella RP.
And an actually feeling of success when you kill something after a long bit of combat. Actually needing effort to play a game.
In arcade, how well you do only influences the quantity of kills you make and they don't really differ one from the other that much. In RB every kill takes effort, and every kill feels like an actual victory. It's even more intense in SB. I can't wait to get a joystick and get into that proper.
I started playing RB yesterday. The easy-prey biplanes back in arcade have become these hyper-maneuverable super machines that compensate for their guns with those crazy turns.

I still see them as things that are easy to hit and easier to rip wings off of.
