Wow this downloader for warthunder is utter garbage. Spent 5 or so hours yesterday and another 5 today downloading the update because I haven't played in several months.
Finally get into the game and it tells me there's another update to download. That's all well and fine IF I had my 1.8mb/s or so download speed but i'm mostly getting 100kb/s or less from this downloader. How shiet
I'm convinced that all the other maps were just hallucinations and there's nothing but Ash River, there was only Ash River all along
This AB rewards in RB thing is really starting to get old
Can someone explain how the SU-122 tends to fuck other tanks up considering it has very little penetration on its cannon?
Because it's 122 millimeters of "Fuck you, Fascist Scum"? Also, 122mm HEAT shells could penetrate up to 160mm of armor at 90 degrees.
guys if you've mastered every single tank and become death itself, I challenge you to master one more skill
driving a tank with manual transmission
hard mode: german tanks only.
(enjoy those 10 gears)
also known as "why the fuck can't i move on this slope oh fuck oh fuck artillery"
I want to try this.
How do I turn this on and then subsequently rage and turn it off

Just use E and Q to switch gears manually, pretty sure it disables the auto.

E and Q are cruise control.

why am i eve nfucking allowed to leave the garage without a repair kit
in a stunning display of the "organic", "non math-y" nature of War Thunder's combat system, my horizontal turret-traverseless PzIV self and a T-28 duked it out, me shuffling my tracks to aim awkwardly to aim, him bouncing every shot, for a good 8 minutes. Then I drove off, bored of shooting and missing repeatedly at this range, and doing no damage when I hit, drove off to immediately find myself faced with a T-50. I hit him 5 times, still without horizontal traverse. 0 damage. He shoots me repeatedly from point blank in the sides and front. 0 damage. We dance for literally 2 minutes before he finally instakills me with a shot to the rear turret, after spending 90 seconds sitting in front of me bouncing.
War Thunder needs work. They need to start with spall.

I'm really fucking sick of shells doing absolutely nothing when they should be doing something.
I shot a T-34-85 in the rear of the turret and the rear of the hull from about ~200 meters with a Panther in FUCKING RB.
Nothing happened to the T-34-85 other than light damage to a few crew members.
I would be mad but still understanding in AB, but RB? Come on.
I wouldn't mind a change in the maps, the current maps don't quite feel right for the style of play War Thunder's tanks seem to be aiming towards, they seem geared towards point blank WoT style fighting but the damage and movement system seems a lot more appropriate for much longer and more realistic ranges
I don't mind point blank fighting. Getting one-shot from 600 meters is more annoying.

You're right. The KV-1 was 1939. Let's make it BR 1.7.
[sp]I hate T-34s and T-50s with a passion. Mainly because they're insanely boring if they're in a match they shouldn't be in. Nothing is less fun than an enemy that can slaughter you and shrug off any ammo you throw at it. I was seeing them in FUCKING BR 1.3 TANKS TODAY. WHAT A TREAT.[/sp]
Can someone explain the BR system?
Can someone explain the BR system?
I forget the range, but all it means is that you are placed in matches with +/- 2.0 (or whatever it was) BR of the plane/tank you have selected. You cannot be put into matches of something two eras above or below you. If you do exceptionally poor, the BR for your vehicle will be adjusted lower to give you a break. It doesn't go the other way anymore, but it used to. That's really all there is to it.
It's an okay system, but the real problem with it is that Gaijin is really stupid with how they assign these values.
Watching a pz2 casually drive off the cliff at korelia because hes so fixated with firing at me while moving.
God speed you magnificent bastard
Can someone explain the BR system?
Battle Rating is the MM weight of the vehicle. At base, the MM usually has a spread of about 0.6. As in a 1.0 vehicle might see a 1.7. A 1.3 won't normally see a 2.3. However, your recent wins/losses and player efficiency can affect it too, for roughly another 0.3 (or maybe even 0.6.) It works in thirds, so 1.3 is actually 1.3333333 and so on. 1.6666 is just called 1.7.
Arcade Additional Note:
Top Three Vehicles are taken into account. If A is the highest, C is the lowest.
(A + ((B+C)/2) )/2 = BR
In laymans terms, the rough average of your top three vehicles is your BR. You can only drag down a BR by about 0.3, by having two vehicles 0.6 under it.
tl;dr;fuck algebra:
Battle Rating is MM weight. The spread is normally (my own estimations of) 0.6 with an additional 0.3 based on player skill/recent matches - for a maximum spread of 1.0. Arcade can let you bring down that spread if your second and third highest vehicle are 0.6BR or lower than your top.
Era does not mean anything to MM. It's all about BR.

What were you using, bombs or rockets?
I just had a german tank fire round after round into my SU-122 to no effect. It was pretty funny watching him circle around me trying to kill me. He shot 6 rounds into my rear and did nothing at all pretty much. I think he wasted nearly all his ammo on me.
I seem to have a horrible habit of finding myself fighting against wingmen pairs.
For some reason the "aces.exe" disappeared after a patch.
What do. Validating files on steam doesn't work.

Validate files in the launcher?
Oops.
So I've recently discovered a maneuver for myself: when dogfighting, I drop the throttle to zero and then use that to turn better and when the enemy is in front of me, resume throttling.
So far it has been working quite well, how stupid is it in eyes of actually skilled players?

A counter move is the high/low yo yo where you spend your energy in the vertical before coming back down for a snap shot.

Depends on the situation, if the person is very close behind you and you can drop speed quickly it could be handy, but there's a strong risk of losing too much speed and not being able to catch up again, but if someone's at a distance or you can't lose your speed fast enough you might be making yourself an easier target. Also worth mentioning is that controls become less effective at low speeds and no engine power, so if you play it too hard you'll do the opposite of what you intend.
I watched one of these play out in a vertical dogfight, and it ended up with a Bearcat shooting his ordnance straight up while stalling since his target had enough speed to escape, and it was the easiest target I've ever had.
I'd keep doing it if it works for you, but just practice exactly when to do it.
What were you using, bombs or rockets?
Both.
bombed some tanks, reloaded with rockets to shoot up the bridges, reloaded with airburst rockets to kill the last two player aircraft

Dropping too much speed just leaves you flopping about, near stalling. If you're going so fast you need to slow down to turn, go up, climb a bit, and loop back down on your foe.
