I don't think Russian heavy tanks get good until the IS-2, so yeah I personally think it's useless.
I don't think Russian heavy tanks get good until the IS-2, so yeah I personally think it's useless.
First KV-1 is an impenetrable doom bunker if MM treats it right. The downside is, as you drive it, the forecast becomes a 99% chance of artillery rain.
Is it just me or is the KV-1 Zis-5 completely useless? It's gun is VERY meh and the armor seems pointless when almost every German tank can penetrate it from the front. I would rather play any of the T-34s over this thing.
KV-1 is supposed to be angled almost 45 degrees against enemies because its side and frontal armor are very similar. Doing that, the front sloped 75 turns into sloped 106 and the side sloped 75 turns into 106 + tracks.
Which country is the most fun to play with Tanks?

If they don't pen, then they damage my gun and make me unable to fight back.

After a certain distance the targeting ring just disappears for me.
Am I the only one who has trouble aiming artillery? After a certain distance the targeting ring just disappears for me.
You can use the zoom command while aiming artillery, but it's not meant to be used past so many meters.
Which country is the most fun to play with Tanks?
In my experience the German tanks are awesome. Maybe it's just because I like to say "Stug," but I find they're a good balance of firepower and, such as it is for tanks, agility. I tried Russian tanks but I found them to be incredibly painful. The T-26 just can't keep up with the Panzers.

Boy, I sure love how one-sided one-point Jungle is. One team can make it to the point first, and has perfect cover. The other team has to enter slaughter points to get close and is totally exposed anywhere on it. There needs to be a fucking one hour ban if you don't touch a single cap point in arcade. I'm tired of these World of Tanks babies playing camp wars. I've seen people trying to snipe people in the enemy spawn. Five meters away from an uncapped point.

In my experience (in SB) it's better to decimate the enemy tanks before trying to cap.

Arcade, people basically infinitely respawn. But still, these complete fucking mongs don't even attempt to go for points - they don't even seem to understand that it's how you win. I like to play Arcade to relax and pop out some early parts, like "Parts" - but jesus fuck is it infuriating to lose three matches in a row because you're the one singular fuckwit in out of fifteen who is even trying. I am 100% convinced I'd be better off with an endless conga line of bots, who actually park on the fucking point, instead of a team. I've only been able to keep my blood pressure low by bailing the instant I'm certain the team are helpless fuckwits, but not before telling them that they've earned the loss. Something I would never say if I wasn't the only person on the correct quadrant of the map and on the top of our scoreboard by a mile.

I'd really like to know where to aim to kill KV-1's because most of my interaction with them has been looking at red crosshairs as they sit on the objective or just trundle towards me completely invulnerable. Gives me bad memories of WoT where shitties would do basically the same thing. Tank games need to stop making me fight KV-1's in Panzer III's. yeah sure it's ~realistic~ but so much else with the game isn't. Just implement decent matchmaking.

Any of them aside from the very first one can penetrate them frontally without much trouble. Ammo is in the lower glacis and the turret bustle. ESPECIALLY the turret bustle like seriously pretty much any shot to the turret bustle instantly explodes the whole tank
KV-1 ZiS-5 is a rape train with APCR and BR-350B (MD-8 fuse) rounds
It's not bad (I'm getting 5-10 kills per round), but I would still rather use the T-34 any day of the week. The MD-8 fuse does help a lot though.
Second panzer III shouldn't get matched against kv-1s? Are you platooning or something? [editline]22nd May 2014[/editline] Oh, it just barely does, never mind.
Thus, Arcade.
Arcade tanks is bad. You can't even claim it's for faster grinding because it uses the same maps as the other game modes. The aiming assistance hurts you more than it helps, and it has the worst players in the game.
T-44 get. Now I need to unlock 8 tanks to be allowed to unlock T-54. Thanks, Gaijin.
From what I've read the 44 is pretty bad tier for tier?
From what I've read the 44 is pretty bad tier for tier?
Complete trash. Gets oneshotted by German long 88mm at any range and any angle, while having gun identical to T-34-85 and being SLOWER than T-34-85, and having 1.3 higher rating than T-34-85. It's absolutely irredeemable.

The short bus driver simulator where you have to go and drive 14 window licking mouth breathing troglodyte shit heads to this place called victory which they have never heard of.

I refuse to go into RB knowing that someone might plink something important and then "gg no re your crew didn't bring parts lol ur fucked" syndrome.

And if you're grinding out on one vehicle and you lose it in arcade the exact same thing happens.
what is the inherent differences between the game modes in Ground Forces? I get the i differences in the air side.
what is the inherent differences between the game modes in Ground Forces? I get the i differences in the air side.

Gamemodes in War Thunder -- Ground Forces Tanks are very early in their days, as of yet, and all of them are very similar, they all use the same maps, . However, there are some major differences. Arcade There's an aiming indicator that helps you compensate for shell drop, tanks are ever so slightly more durable, field repairs are faster than the other game modes, and handling characteristics are more forgiving. A lot of the faster tanks are able to go full Tokyo Drift with a bit of momentum. Easiest mode, again. Realistic Removal of the aiming indicator, but opponents still have icons. Repairs take longer, and tanks are much heavier, and slower to accelerate. Simulator Feature incomplete as of yet, some views are unfinished, and changing gears is not mandatory as it is planned to be. Icons are removed, and the player's perspective is locked to the commander's hatch and the sniper scope. As opposed to aircraft Simulator Battles, Tank Sim is extremely popular, offering a much more intense and tactical experience than the other game modes due to the lack of icons encouraging stealth.
