There's a certain feeling of accomplishment that comes with completing a game to the fullest extent that some people crave. Not me, no. No way I'm sinking that much time into a ragegame like this.
So I bought myself the Hellcat MK1 and I'd like to grind the camouflage for it. The problem is that what the hell is Port Moresby?
I don't think I've ever been on that map...

Some people like a sense of progression. Sure, I could kick back in a few FOTM planes and premiums and just shit RP and silver everywhere, but what does that get me? The last few jets I'm missing? Yawn. I did it in the Tu-2S-59 and had the entire Yak-Jet line, MiG-9, and La-15 in half a week. If I really, desperately want the 9/L and 15s, I can get them in just as much time.
Or, I could go through and "spade" planes for fun. And honestly, at lower tiers, it's a lot of fun. Constantly swapping playstyles and planes is far more interesting than 'oh boy let's play the Mustang for twenty rounds today.' The nightmare comes up by late Era III (especially in tanks) where modules become more and more RP. It's also sense of finality on planes - that they're done and 100% ready for future use. Especially if Gaijin decides to add additional modules on them (Tempest series' 1000lbs racks I got in like two matches and I'm still waitin' for my F-82E gunpod.)
As much as I vent about it, I do have fun. There's only been a small handful of planes that have been so abysmal, so hilariously out of line with contributing to a team, that I've forced myself though. Lancasters are a prime example. At least my B-17s, pre-nerf, could knock out 1-4 fighters a match.
And when all's said and done, and my goal of unlocking every plane and having everything up to IV aced is done, I can rest happy and play whatever. I'm 100% set for any future planes and modules they add. I already really enjoy and reap that benefit now on the unlocking side - I already have or am researching every single plane they added in 1.43 sans the R2Y2 V2 and V3.
So that's RB only I take it?

[Operation] New Guinea?
Yes.
all I want is the Ki-200, but I keep getting put in matches where my team goes full retard or packet loss makes me dive head first into the ground, making me wait 5 minutes to use my plane.
la5fn is so fuckin fun and it doesn't face broken shit.

The La5FN is my favorite russian plane. It's just so fucking sexy too DAMN.

I kept getting good Japanese teams getting their shit kicked in because of a full 1.0 BR spread causing an entire team of Nippon props to fight an entire team of F-80Cs.
Some people like a sense of progression.
I remember old games where you played them for fun rather than to progress. Speaking of multiplayer games of course. The fun was in getting better at the game, not getting better things in the game. That was your progression, progressing in a more meaningful way than just brute-forcing your way to a plane by playing the game a lot. Anyone can "progress" in this game just by playing it.
I still reminisce of my days playing battlefield 1942. One of my all time favorite games, and the game that got me into PC gaming in the first place.
That was also back when I could play a single game all day long without getting tired of it, now there are just so many options that I always have a nagging feeling to be playing some other game while playing the one I am playing, and then I just end up browsing the internet instead
Look at il-2 as a comparible-ish kind of game, multiplayer plane fighting game, you didn't have to grind through all the bullshit to get to the plane you actually want to fly. You just pick the plane you want, and then play. Your sense of accomplishment comes from getting good at the game rather than getting the plane.

German teams in RB. My god are they good. Almost a whole day of wins. If you want to pad your win/lose stat, high tier German planes are the way to go.
For those complaining about Japanese teams, or their planes. Seriously? Every match I get against the Japanese ends in the same old story.
Team flies low, all die, or crash. Only one left alive, so I just bail. Every match is this:

Please re-direct your complaints. I'd like to see your Victory/Defeat box history, if you play Tier 4 Japanese(I know you do aydin), and see if it even remotely resembles that of mine. I have strong bets that you will have more victories.

Speaking purely of War Thunder here, I'd probably drop it if I was completed sans occasional fun fly-outs. I do get a sense of satisfaction out of the progress, which you could call fun. Like that feel-good sensation of beating a game, or getting past a tough boss. I've pretty much plateaued in "skill" for War Thunder - anything else is just learning how to fly or fight specific planes. Thus, I play it purely for that idle, time-killing progress and the fun of popping in a new plane and getting use to it over the course of a couple fun/terrible games (free repairs are my best friend.) There's really no way around the brute-force aspect with a select group of bad planes - namely attackers, because of how the game is currently designed. RB is extremely focused on fighter v. fighter, usually at 5000m altitude or less. AB is just a hilarious, aimless clusterfuck where, ironically, playing straight fighters won't net you many wins.
Sure, anyone can beat their head against a wall and do it (just look at RB jet matches), but it's still a thing I like to do - like whatever countless hours I played in TF2, both for fun, and for trying to get a full set of items passively instead of trading. If I wanted to go all fun/skill, I'd be playing something else. MOBAs ain't my thing, MMORPGs bore me, RTSes I need far too much work to break into player v. player, and I can settle into FPSes so fast that I usually get bored of whatever the new hot thing is in a month (QIII Arena kept giving me pathetically easy matches and I never bothered to figure out how to tell the game to kick it up.) So, when I got a big chunk of time, all my loose-ends tied up, and nothing much to do except kill some time - War Thunder is usually what I do, if nothing else, just for the doubles. It may seem like I bunker down and play for eight hours straight daily to do the shit I do, but 90% of my progression out of the last year or so is just getting doubles and quitting. :v:
Oh and because one day I will be done, least with planes. And I'll get to post an image and get called out on autism. That'll be when I know I've truely beaten War Thunder.
I vaguely remember a time when modules weren't a thing in War Thunder, least not ammo belts and payloads. Real shame they decided to go with it, honestly, as a means to pad the entire game out.

I haven't actually been "playing" to be fair. I've been grinding the japanese tech tree with the premium zero (for the past 11 days). After ~250 games my winrate is 53% (1.7 kd ratio). Looking at my stats, i see how gaijin is balancing the BR system. They're forcing 50% wr.
I do play a couple of games after i unlock a new plane but not enough to conclude anything.
Whoever thought that parts and fire extinguishers needed to be upgrades deserves to be fired. I shouldn't have to go into battle with a new tank and die just because I couldn't repair my tank or put out a fire. It's even more bullshit that fire extinguishers are in the second tier of upgrades, and even when some of the tank models have them directly on the tank you can't use them until you have it unlocked.

I usually say far worse than fired.
It's pretty much the reason I don't tank it up anymore. Getting anything new is fucking suffering because of that.

More Firepower
v.
Combat Ineffective if any Module gets tickled OR dead if fire breaks out no take backsies
IE You can never ever get shot anything that doesn't bounce automatically makes you useless no matter what.
Yeah, sorry, tanks is worse. Can't count how many times I just quit playing for the day because some brand new tank caught fire shortly into the match and proceeded to burn for 4 minutes towards death because no extinguisher.

Well, you can argue they're not competitive till the gun modules are unlocked. Name other tier 4/5 fighters that only have 1 primary weapon.
Even with only one cannon BF109s are still serviceable, and I actually prefer them and get better results with one cannon.
So apparently with that model viewer it turns out that the front of the duck has an armor value of 0mm and the entire front of the aircraft is considered a single piece of armor.
what the fuck gaijin

I'd argue that the K-4 is as bad as the E-1.
It's got a high BR, extremely poor armament choices (forced nosecone Mk 108, ONLY MG 151 gunpods - no bombs, Wr. 21, 108, etc) and just doesn't have much going for it sans an absurd climb rate.
The K-4 was really their worst pick, as a slightly better G-10 with 5 more 108 rounds, which I assumed they went with entirely because it was the only serial production version. They didn't even bother to give it its R1 bomb rack, allowing a 250 or 500kg bomb (which would be useful when the last American cunt initiates hide-and-seek mode.) If they moved up to the K-6, we'd see an extra two Mk 108s in the wings (or 151s, but not pods), and if we went up to the K-10, there'd be a 103 in the nose cone which would just make me all kinds of wet.
I honestly recommend quitting the 109 series at the G-10. The K-4 isn't going to offer anything else worth the BR increase, considering your allies will be vastly superior 190D and 152s, and your opponents will likely be entirely Beercans and Shooting Shits.

It's obviously not ready for user use yet.
That 0.1mm armor is considered stronger than the 0.88mm armor on the Po-2, and the Ilyushins have no "armor" on the nose, instead having a big module there called "armor"
Take everything you look at with that, with a big grain of salt.
Speaking of the 152, is it any good right now? I've got in unlocked but I don't think I've ever flown it outside of test flights.
Somebody hasn't seen bf109s or kitsukas upgrade modules.
If you attach gunpods to 109s outside of arcade you are playing the wrong plane though
Point of a 109 is you're supposed to use the fact that it's light as fuck and engine is stronk as fuck in order to drain people of energy and when you make the plane heavier and gimp the already shitty aerodynamics you're pretty much only left with BnZ (which is harder to do now because you're slower and climb worse anyway) and if you want to do BnZ you know the Focke-Wulf planes are literally better in every way than the 109s at that, right? Just fly the Anton/Dora

K-4 is the same BR as the G-10 with better aerodynamics and a more powerful engine? It outclimbs it pretty hard when fully upgraded and is significantly faster. The overarmed Kurfursts (we're getting a K-14 iirc) are really really fucking heavy because they have tons of armour, and their engines are tuned for ultra high alt like the Ta-152 so they're gonna be shiiiiiiiiit
I feel like flying Germany again, is the G2 still performing really nicely? And I'm guessing that the G6 still performs like shit and isn't worth trying to use
Totally forgot the K-4 got downtiered. Wouldn't know it considering I never see G-10s and a majority of my matches are 6.7 in it.

TA152? It's ok still. German 30mm is still completely useless but the two almost center mounted 20's do a great job of fuckin shit up.
