For being from 1940 the M3 Lee sure looks like an interwar tank (and is generally pretty terrible, by comparison the Soviets were fielding T-34s at the time)
For being from 1940 the M3 Lee sure looks like an interwar tank (and is generally pretty terrible, by comparison the Soviets were fielding T-34s at the time)
Didn't we lend-lease a whole bunch of them to the British and Russians?
(and is generally pretty terrible, by comparison the Soviets were fielding T-34s at the time)
Despite their physical prowess in Operation Barbarossa, 1941, T-34s kinda got shit on pretty hard by extremely poorly trained crews (3-5 hours for drivers was considered "good"), commanders, and reliability. Nearly half of the T-34s lost during it were accounted to mechanical failures. Which is a bit of a shame, because they were slogging it out against Panzer IIs, IIIs, and IVs with nothing bigger than say a 50mm gun (or 75mm stubby if you must.) 37mm was the standard AT cannon for Germany at the time, and they were literally forced to start throwing field guns and anti-air cannons into direct fire positions to attack T-34s and KVs. Given that Russia didn't have the human (and mechanical) faults, they woulda steamrolled the ever-loving fuck out of Germany at the time. It was the initial confrontations that made Germany shit bricks and start demanding proper 75mm cannons on their Panzer IVs. In comparison, the M3 Lee was seeing service over in the North African front where they were encountering a lot of Panzer IIIs. Having a 75mm hull gun let them outrange the contemporary 50mm cannons of the IIIs, and the 37mm secondary turret made it very hard to flank them without being exposed to dangerous fire. They actually fared really well in these scenarios and were pretty well loved. It's only faults were the tall silhouette which disallowed hull-down positions, and the riveted armor which we all know isn't that safe for the crew - they very quickly switched to all-welded because non-penetrating impacts caused said rivets to pop like corn on a hot summer's day. By the time the M3 Lee/Grants started showing up in Russia, they were outdated next to the T-34s and generally unloved, being likened to coffins more than anything else. Still, some were used on secondary fronts against lesser German forces using captured French tanks, and in those cases they still fared well. In the end, they were a stop-gap until the Sherman could arrive, and considering that the M3 Lee was rather rushed for this reason, it has a commendable service history. Oh, and it has four frontal-capable Browning .30s which might be fun too. :v: [t]http://i48.tinypic.com/2dkmwyp.jpg[/t]

Found a cool website with an absurd amount of pictures relating to the differences between A, A2, A3 and A4 Shermans. The proto-Shermans had a really ugly turret and a M3 Lee style cupola complete with Browning .30. :v: [t]http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/turret_types/t6_turret.JPG[/t]

I think the lee will actually be pretty good. You have the 37mm to punch many holes in lightly armored vehicles while you have the 75mm to handle heavier tanks. The lee came before the sherman chronologically so it will probably be in a spot where that 75mm is enough for most tanks.
the T-28 in AB is fucking hilarious [editline]28th November 2014[/editline] Having a really hard time winning though. I really don't get how to convince your team to push onto the cap points when you're on the losing side, and so its either landslide victories or losses.
i sit in there base and kill them
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised but holy shit the KV-1 makes the T-28 look like a toy it makes everything else below it look like a toy for that matter [editline]28th November 2014[/editline] am I getting miracle matchmaking or does this thing basically never meet anything that can pen it? You can just drive through an open field at a 30 degree angle and win the game

Going from aced typhoon to stock tempest is not a fun transition.
either victories or losses.
... playing in any other tank or plane usually yields the same result, believe it or not
Going from aced typhoon to stock tempest is not a fun transition.
When the Tempests get upgraded though, they get absurd. Tempest II is a Jet Killer supreme and I'd argue even better than the Cannon-Bearcat.
... playing in any other tank or plane usually yields the same result, believe it or not
they're absolute landslides though, like one team gets the cap and then never loses it for the entire game it's silly [editline]28th November 2014[/editline] It got better with the KV-1 though, since all you have to do is just drive into the cap at a 30 degree angle to spur your team into action

Ty for not bailing think tank.
Ty for not bailing think tank.
I actually forgot that I could do that. :v: [editline]28th November 2014[/editline] To be perfectly honest, I would have done the exact same thing, so I really don't blame you at all. Playing stock is just frustrating as all hell. I hope the Tempest Mk. II is worth the pain.
oi you're the dude that killed me
When? I kill a lot of people
When it comes to the KV-1 Stug Ausf F's and Pz IV F's (I think?) are your worst enemy as they will send rounds through your drivers hatch that one shot you. If you see a KV-1 Zis-5 and you're in stock KV-1 gtfo. If you see stock KV-1 and can't avoid him, shoot his gun barrel until it breaks. You can usually destroy it or the breech and leave him out of combat until someone with a bigger gun gets him. The back of your turret is a nice big spot for T-34-57's to shoot, so watch out there too. Essentially, keep everyone ahead of you and angle your armor a bit (hide your hatch) and you'll survive

It's basically a big slow version of the first T-34, at least the ZiS-5 packs a punch.
Just got my first jet kill in the tempest. I do not know why the P-80 thought he could turn fight.
When? I kill a lot of people
Think it was the day before yesterday, killed me with shrapnel from your artillery. I was in my flask panzer, you were in a T-50 or something
What do you guys do to evade BnZ attacks in a turnfighter? I usually turn into their approach and try to veer away at a point where they're not in firing range yet but where they're too fast already to keep me in their sights. However, I never succeed.
