The T34/57 is actually the one I was looking at getting and I could get it with the Ace Advanced Pack's gold along with a year of premium which is a pretty fantastic deal. The Jagdpanther could be fun but it is hilariously overpriced.
Do talismans just turn any regular tank into a premium tank for RP farming purposes?
talismans do a ton for RP farming, some on par with premiums.
Back in the CBT, the T-34-57 was very fun. It penned a lot, but didn't do too much damage because of the small shell. Not so sure about it now.

You don't get money bonus, but the RP gain is identical to the premium of same rank. One thing to watch out for is "efficient progress". Each non-premium vehicle has limited "efficient" range for research of one era above and one era under. You can research stuff outside of that range but the amount of RP you make will sharply decrease with greater era distance than 1 (battle rank has no effect).
I would personally recommend you to get a year o prem and then try and see if you can make by as far as silver lions are concerned and if the grind doesn't feel too harsh, and if it does (mainly through cash), I would recommend the T-34-57 mod. 43, but seriously, don't expect a cakewalk. It's a tank that requires discipline and precision.
Good recommendation for the geagles alone, let alone 2 months of premium. Dunno how much I'd use the planes though, that part of the game is basically locked away from me.
They are there if you need them and (imo) great planes to get someone into RB. The Typhoon can basically do anything and the Pe-2 is a solid high speed attacker that's a flavour of the Tu-2 (literally best plane in the game).
these map makers are fucking shitlords oh my GOD
they put these innocuous looking slopes that your tank can go down right next to the "real" paths, and then put fucking rocks at the bottom of EVERY SINGLE SLOPE LIKE THAT. EVERY ONE.

maybe so you look where you're driving and don't go down steep hills
also rocks being at the bottom of hills makes sense, stuff usually follows the laws of gravity
so as it turns out I already own the Typhoon from the Advanced pack, I just never noticed it but I don't look at British stuff :v:
Do I get any kind of compensation if I already own it?

No, unfortunately. But Typhoon is still based.
The ace pack is still worth it just for the glod and premtime.

yes, notice how much more reasonable the proper path is

I've been playing this game for the past few days and I must say at least in my experience this game in it's current state is very frustrating to play.
This game is plagued with inconsistencies and place-holder features.
I was really looking forward to the open beta after the closed beta's been taking ages, but now that I'm finally in I'm really starting to wonder what took them so long looking at it.
One of the many "features" that almost make me want to cry is the repair timers when your tank seems to break down every other second. Having yourself break down 99% of the time on the front that renders you absolutely useless while getting pecked by numerous other enemies is extremely frustrating. I would understand this in realism or simulator battles but in arcade ? Sometimes even up to 20 minutes of repairing.
The shooting mechanics are very frustrating as well. Many times have I shot tanks perpendicularly to their side or their rear doing mostly fuck all or shot them in obvious weakspots, again doing nothing.
Another great issue is progression which is probably on purpose to try and make you test all of the tanks, but having to purchase six tanks before progressing to the next tier is a joke coupled with the feeling that they're trying to make you want to buy their golds at every possibility. It's a beta for crying out loud.
The AI is idiotic, they emit absurd amounts of smoke for some reason which make it difficult to see where you're going. They also have the ability to push you around or block you which is a big problem when you can get oneshot by any enemy tank.
Then there's hidden deathtraps on the map that look like your average innocent slopes that will blow your tracks off, same with trees (can't run over them).
I must admit there are some redeeming factors as well, like the graphics and sounds coupled together make you feel like you're actually firing an actual tank rather than a toy (looking at your WoT).
My 2 cents.
yes, notice how much more reasonable the proper path is
[t]http://puu.sh/8ZwHc.jpg[/t]
Looks a lot more reasonable. One is steep, rocky, and has boulders at the bottom, one is shallower, dirt, and doesnt have rocks at the bottom
How would the rocky one be more reasonable, or even remotely close to even being reasonable at all for a tank to go on.
Unless you aren't being sarcastic, in which case we are in agreement.

My 2 cents.
Pretty much agree with all this but I'm holding out hope that the damage models will be tuned since that has always been an aspect of War Thunder development. I really wish they would just change the progression by lowering the amount of required tanks to 4 or even 3. Researching entire eras to get to one tank you want is bizarrely poor design and just makes players frustrated to play tanks they don't want to play.
That said though War Thunder at it's absolute worst is only as bad as WoT was in an average game. Both games have similar flaws (damage model, matchmaking, grind) but only one of them has invisible tanks, random damage/aiming, orbital strike artillery pieces and atleast WoT lets you respawn and even lets you play your tank in another battle if you want. The fact that this game doesn't have those means that the tiny chances of me ever playing WoT again basically dropped to nil.

The "rocks at bottom of slopes" thing is actually pretty stupid and there really isn't a point for them to be there other than to block the player from maneuvering up hills at best or getting them completely stuck at worst.
That said Karelia is just abysmally designed. Spawn point #1 is bad for reasons that should be obvious and the overall flow of the map encourages players to camp around objectives instead of crossing the killing fields to get into them. That said, fights in the middle point can be really exciting.

Another thing WoT doesn't have: SPAA.
Buddy in Panzer III is keeping a Panzer IV distracted so I drive up behind him, wheel my gun around, fire a 7 shot burst that kills everyone in his turret
Just flew 3 games of Japanese planes, very very underwhelming weapons. Does it get better? I like turn fighting alot.

The angle doesn't let you see how entirely ridiculous the road path really is. They're only about 10-15 degrees different.
Regardless it's yeah, a user error, but a somewhat ridiculous one due to how sneaky the mappers are, and the cost of slipping up (5 minutes of pain).
Purely hypothetically and theoretically if one were to invest money into this game, what should one invest that money into? Is premium good in this game? What are some premium tanks to get/avoid like the plague?

Wish I had $40 to drop on the game for the Aces pack. Right now it only costs 7600 GE for a year premium. You could get the Aces pack, get the 2 months of premium, then use the 10000 GE to buy an extra year of premium, and still have 2400 GE left.
I wish they discounted the 1 yr premium even more, I only have 5380 GE.
It would atleast give me some motivation to play the game again, the non-premium grind is horrible when you have experienced the grind with a premium account.
but only one of them has invisible tanks
Pretty sure that WT Arcade has invisible tanks as well. I've seen 'not lit up' tanks simply vanish.
Titles weren't retroactively given.
Fuck off Gaijin.

Gaijin doesn't give anything retroactively. Ever.
Real pain when all those new decals came out.
Why does it feel like the PzIV's armor works better at close range than short range. This doesn't make any sense. I die more often at 800m to randomass 50mms than I do to short range anything.

It's a serious fucking chore bothering to play this game during North American prime times. Players are actually good and that forces you to literally not move at all. The game falls a fucking part if 13 out of 15 players aren't braindead. That's bad.
Jesus fuck simulator battles in this are so good.
On a battle in kursk i hid behind an AI panzer IV and charged along with it.
Most brilliant idea i've ever had, it took all the shots for me :v:
eastern european war games are destroying my world view, annihilating my hope for mankind, and making me wildly racist.

I've seen it happen from time to time and chalked it up to a bug because most of the time in arcade I can see tags for enemies I don't even have LOS on.
It's certainly not as bad as invisible batchats and T69's autoloading rounds into you over and over.
I'm starting to think the invisible tanks thing is a sort of mechanic put in place for those who have grass turned off. You wouldn't see the tank if you had grass turned on, so it doesn't matter, but it would matter if someone had grass turned off, but it keeps it fair across all graphics settings.
If this is the case it still needs work, but I could understand it being there

Except it fucks up even with completely naked rocks as well.

I'm pretty sure it's just the engine culling the models too early, I've never had problems with tanks coming out from cover and being invisible, but I have seen tanks disappear when they are retreating over a hill or behind a rock. Something like the game estimates that the tank is about to be out of LOS so it culls the model, but it just culls it a little too soon.
war thunder:
play for 4 hours, quit.
new session later. play for 3 minutes, crash. play for 2 seconds, crash. play for 15 minutes, crash.
ok so i was wondering why no one talks about playing air battles so i que'd up for a sim air battle.
i realized why no one talks about air battles 20 minutes of waiting later
i just pressed tab and backspace at the same time while the comms menu was open and the game crashed on command
How am I supposed to fly the wellington? I can't fly it without it turining into a flaming crashing box brfore I even get the chance to drop my bombs
