Lads, I've just downloaded this game. What is a good faction to start with?
I'd say you should go with America. The first planes like the F2A and the first P-36's aren't that great but once you unlock the F2A-3 and the P-36G You're pretty unstobbable at that br. Then for the love of god, get the Hellcat don't care if you have other planes you wan't GET THE HELLCAT it's like gods gift once you get like few upgrades to it

Russian early planes are monsters and out turn every fucking thing. Japanese does the same thing post Tier 1 and 2. The brits don't have the greatest fighters, but they make up for it by having 6 to 8 .50 cal cannons before you even get into Tier 3 so everything you shoot at just melts. German early tree is god damn the fucking worst. But if you like Boom and Zoom they're the way to go. The American tree is a bit of German + Brit combined IMO, with fast slow turning fighters, loaded up with a ridiculous number of guns. There's also some fragile quick turners mixed in

are you sure you don't mean .303 machineguns while saying .50 cannons
Er, Yeah I do. They're both lovely browning slugs. Especially when you have 8 of the fuckers in a Tier 2 aircraft

12 in case of the Hurricane IIB.. and 6 A2G-rockets that can be used as A2A-rockets with a bit of skill..

Isn't the Hurricane Mk I, with eight 7.62 MGs, a Tier 1 fighter though?
The Gladiator also holds its own against superior fighters. Lives up to his name, the little thing

It was super fun back when it was the starter plane.

I like the Romanian duck more than I expected, it's still a coffin but it's a coffin lined with gold.
Am i just too fucking stupid to look through what planes are in the research thing, or is there a reason why i can't find it 129 you're using?
So I am going to play this game for the first time. From what I gathered, you can play either plane or tank but I doubt I'm going to play plane at all since I suck at flying. Having played WoT for quite some time, I wanted to know if there are there any similar or different features/mechanics in tank combat between the two games, and also if this game had p2w elements, being free-to-play and all.
Well.. Let's start with the basic differences between Wot and WT Ground Forces:
-No hitpoints: you can potentially one-shot almost anything.
-No distance-based spotting system: if it's in your line of sight, you can see it, and kill it. There are some instances where tanks go invisible behind rubble or hills though, as they are not rendered 100% of the time. This applies to arcade tank battles, differences to other game modes coming up later.
-There is no magical "gold" ammo, every ammo type is available to use, you just have to unlock it first in the tank module research tree a la WoT. The progress and research system are very similar, although XP doesn't equal to research points usually. HE ammo also isn't some magical "guaranteed damage, even though in small amounts." Unless you're in a KV-2, an SU-122, an SU- or an ISU-152.
-No player-controlled artillery vehicles, just off-map support that can be unlocked (see above).
-In an arcade battle your whole line-up is at your disposal, however, you can spawn in only three times, however, it's possible to spawn in 5 times total if using reserve vehicles among other rank 1s.
-Angling and sidescraping tactics work up to a certain point, but if your side armor is too thin, well.. you're screwed.
When it comes to atmosphere: this game can certainly deliver. When I first encountered T-34s in my puny Pz III, I could easily relate to real German crews encountering that thing the first time. Flanking and using terrain to your advantage plays a huge role.
Differences between Arcade Battles, Realistic Battles and Simulator Battles, referrd as AB, RB and SB from now on:
-Spawns: 3 times in AB, as long as you have enough spawn points in RB (each vehicle has a different spawn point cost), once or twice in SB depending on the type of tank you're driving (heavies get 1 spawn, the others usually 2). In RB you can also spawn in a plane, however.
-Aim assistance: There is a hit marker on AB, that shows you the correct elevation and chance of penetration as red, yellow and green crosses, worst to best. Also when the marker is on target you can see the outline of the target even through vegetation. On RB and SB this marker is gone. Also, if your vehicle is on a sideways slope, you have to compensate to the opposite direction.

When it comes to P2W, there really isn't any of that, although Pay2Progress is prominent with premium accounts and premium vehicles that earn you more money and research points.
Crew training is also different: crew gets points depending on xp ( I think ) and you have to manually assign them to crew members skills individually. There are no perks. Same crew can use multiple vehicles and once you buy one it's yours forever. Yes, forever, unless you get your account banned or something. Once your crew gets enough skill levels you can buy a qualification for a specific vehicle for silver lions. That serves as a buff to crew skills but doesn't deteriorate performance in other vehicles.
Read around in the forums for moar useful info, this is just my 2 cents.

That's the premium Hs-129 B-2. That's why it's not in the standard tree. The standard Hs-129 are right below the Kanonenvogel Stukas, the G-series.
I notice not many people fly the Mosquito... have I made a terrible mistake?
Overranked, and the data sheet they based the FM on is of a damaged and underpowered Mosquito
It used to be incredible though

It fits well with the goofiness that was the PBY back in the days when it was indestructible. :v:

Oh well without even aiming for it, it seems I've earned enough stars to unlock the US tree, yay.

I've had 2 games today where i've been penalised for a teamkill involving shooting down a friendly plane.
However, I've been in a tank, nowhere near any planes, solely engaging ground targets. What gives?
Artillery RNGsus
Being shot through the ground is the worst shit ever
Jap tanks of WW2 were terrible
[editline]7th January 2015[/editline]
under gunned, under armoured, poor cross country capability
virtually inferior to all other factions
They were made solely for an infantry supporting role though, with the exception of a few, like the Chi-Nu, which might be pretty good, unless it gets overtiered.
As it turns out, the T-60 still rapes face at close range.
Romania had its first involvement in the war in providing transit rights for members of the Polish government, its treasury, and many Polish troops in 1939. During 1940, threatened with Soviet invasion, Romania ceded territory to the Soviet Union, Hungary, and Bulgaria, and following an internal political upheaval, Romania joined the Axis. Subsequently, the Romanian army participated with over 600,000 men in the German-led invasion of the Soviet Union, with its forces taking part in the capture of Odessa and Sevastopol and ultimately suffering irrecoverable losses at Stalingrad. Romania was also a major source of oil for Nazi Germany via the Ploiești oil fields.
With the entry of Soviet troops into Romania and a royal coup in August 1944, a pro-Allied government was installed, and after Germany and Hungary declared war on Romania, the country joined the Allies as a co-belligerent for the remainder of the war. The total number of troops deployed against the Axis was 567,000 men in 38 army divisions. The Romanian Army was involved in the siege of Budapest and reached as far as Czechoslovakia and Austria.

With/against everyone.
kinda like Finland
Several European countries started as fascists and their governments have been overthrown and the new governments joined Allies promptly.
Good to know one of the US servers today is 100% fucked. 270-330 ping. For record, I get 2-12 to my own state, and 40-110 to Canada.
I think my connection is literally going around the world and back to the US, if it's not a fucked tube/not actually a US server.
it was 10000 points vs 800 points when pretty much half the team quit... in the end it was 11 v 3.
quitters...
