There are urban maps in-game for planes already, its probably just a matter of time.
i dont think ranging is in yet, p. sure vertical targeting does nothing for tanks right now.
but yeah the map with the 2 airfields you have to attack/defend in RB as planes, where you can land at them to re-arm (Not including your main airfield which would make it 3) the harbor area is a big city, just not very detailed for actually being on the ground.

Kursk is the fucking worst for this. Every time I get that map I just want to disconnect because fuck spending 30 minutes just chipping at eachother from 2km away with nobody actually wanting to move forward. You may aswell put gm_flatgrass into the game.

That's the way tanks were typically used. What goes on in WoT is bullshit.

I never played WoT. Kursk is dull and badly executed with no real objectives or such to speak of; it's still a generic capture point map useful only for AI farming. It's boring, there is no fun to be had on the ground.

HITS is the keyword here.
Pretty sure in modern firefights most of the kills are a lot closer than the average engagement distance.
HITS is the keyword here.

Keyword as in the word that actually matters.
It doesn't matter some drunken Italian crew spent ten thousand rounds shooting at a tank shaped bush and wrote it down as their average engagement distance, because it's statistically irrelevant. It never achieved anything. We don't need a simulator of "SITTING ON A FLAT SURFACE ALL DAY, NOT HITTING ANYTHING, HAVING BRATWURST AND GETTING YOUR HEMMOROIDS TREATED IN THE CAMP".
Tank VS Tank battles that are in the game never happened like that anyway. The most common engagements were ambushes, the most important factor was the movement of the infantry, and the most common outcome was not destruction but retreat.

This we are in is where fixed number of X tanks go against X other tanks from fixed positions in well known maps with no-existing infantry, intel, or higher command, while playing almost exclusively to death; has nothing to do with ~Real Combat~.
Fucking deal with it.
Stop trying to ruin a functional game because you still haven't figured out what's actually fun and what's just armchair general circlejerk over events that happened in completely different way than they are portrayed today. Nobody gives a shit, and every game studio that spends a weekend in closed testing will never consider it as a viable gameplay to attempt to sell in free to play context where captivating the player for as long as possible is the main focus.
Whoever goes "THIS ARENA BULLSHIT" is not only historically wrong, but also complete nerdsperg and waste of resources.
i dont fucking understand what you dont understand about a. corridoors and b. averages.

You haven't practically played the bigger portion of the game even when it comes to tanks, and you can't handle planes whatsoever. Just stay shut. You inherently have no idea what you are talking about.

Edit: Okay, that was bordering on (or is) spam. I should feel bad, but I'm utterly confused at what you two twats are arguing aboot. You can do nothing to change the course of whatever Gaijoob is creating.
So there was this review a while ago that got me to play Ground Forces, and it was mostly positive, but it talked about how there was a lot of camping and not a whole lot of movement in the more skilled of players. It cited instakills as the reason. Admittedly, I do best when I set myself up with a nice killzone and sit still, but I think I have a better hypothesis.
There wouldn't be as much stationary camping if you didn't spawn within 10 seconds of combat range.
This game is wasting itself hardcore on these "corridor" maps. They are likely spending too much time in-house developing maps, detailing them up similar to how Wargaming does their maps. This would explain why we haven't seen any new maps. In a tank game, you don't need details like that. Not a proper one. Not one where you stay in any given location for a few minutes tops. Not one where players can't complain about a lack of detail when the map is 80kmx80km and the battlefield itself is a 20kmx20km square. Let tanks use mobility, let slow tanks actually be punished from their slowness, give scout tanks that go 10-15kph faster than other tanks a reason to be played, remove corridors allowing for actual flanking and actual natural feeling open world combat, add actual hills, etc etc etc. It just doesn't make sense. Realistic air battles feel astoundingly like IL-2, but WT:GF just feels like instakill WoT. It's an improvement over WoT, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't add up to the quality and believability that we see in air battles.
[editline]7th June 2014[/editline]
For instance, in a corridor, if your only option is to go forward, and your only option after going forward is to hope to instakill the enemy on a diceroll, you're not really playing, you're just facilitating a diceroll on your own life with the ability to aim. There's no "positioning" element to the game, which I'd say is the other half of combat in a game like this.
Happens often. WoT thread has even more examples. I elaborate what I argue about, whether I'm "right" or "wrong"; if I don't, it's because it's either generally agreed upon or menial. I didn't have time to make explicit what I was saying and I thought it was just clear that A. WT's maps' funnel-lane shape, forced CoD capturing gamemode, and insanely short travel time due to spawns is what makes them arena-like, not the ranges involved and B. a kill distance average of 600m on an only slightly skewed left distribution means only slightly less than half occur PAST 600m, and thanks to the maps' design, shape, and unrealistically cluttered nature given the supposed range of geographic locations, isn't the case.
And it's why I'm glad Doom14 explained why he thinks the game is like that, because I didn't think of it but I agree. They're supposed to be arcade maps; we see a similar difference in gamemode, size/shape of maps, and variety of gameplay in Airbattles Arcade vs. Realistic/Sim as we do between the Arcade maps and Kursk. The game does well to have the maps it has right now for arcade. Realistic/Sim isn't finished.

But you mostly play Arcade anyway and the only tank you have played for longer while is the basically pubstomp central PzIV F2! You haven't played a SINGLE, ONE SINGLE soviet tank, either!
You haven't played a SINGLE heavy tank, you have played ONE tank destroyer (for 4 matches).
You haven't played a SINGLE tank past era 3.
Where are you gaining the authority to talk so vehemently about a game you simply do not fucking know?
You have no experience to speak of. Why are you

if you were to point out why I'm wrong and, preferably nicely, cite my apparent lack of experience as why I might believe this, I would be willing to sit down and agree with you.

It's actually extremely amusing how so many people are getting wound up over the most petty things. Especially when it's now got the point of "no but he's being stubborn" "no but he's dumb"
tsk
I feel like the only person on the internet that doesn't assume everyone that disagrees with me is buttmad.
