I think I'm probably doing something wrong when it comes to dogfighting tbh. I don't really know what to do so I just fly towards enemy planes that are out by themselves and then pray to god that I don't die.
Get altitude, you dont want enemy planes above you (though there is always some guy that goes WAY up for some unknown reason). Depending on the clouds, I like to stick around at 3-3,5km up in the air. Look out for an enemy below you, bomber or fighter, just dont think of bombers as flying pinatas (especially not in RB, if you play that), since gunners can fuck you up royally. When you've decided on a target, get a good angle/distance, dive down on them and shoot. If you got a critical hit, but it's still flying. pump some more dakka into them. Go for the wings and the cockpit/engine. Now, unless some dick on your team comes by, they should end up crashing down, giving you the kill. In the meantime they fall to their death, you pull up. Rinse and repeat. Don't go for the same target as everyone else, since there is a high chance that one of the other guys wont pay attention and crash into you or someone else, or you'll just waste bullets on a target someone else takes down. And set gun convergence to 300. Hope this helps you out.
If you need a good one about the B-17, get Memphis Belle. There's too many more to list on that front.
Memphis Belle is literally a catalog of everything that could fucking go wrong in a B-17 -fuck mission scrubbed -fuck poetic radio operator depresses everyone -fuck mission not scrubbed, we're taking off -fuck near miss with other B-17 in cloud cover -fuck 109s -fuck 190s -fuck copilot went to rear gunner seat, shot down a 109 that crashed into and killed another B-17 -fuck ball turret shot off the plane -fuck smokescreen over target cant see shit captain -fuck it we're going around -bombsaway.jpg -fuck more fighters -fuck radioman poet's wounded -fuck engines 2 and 3 are out -fuck the landing gear wont go down, gotta manually lower it still a great movie though, the dad from Back to the Future is the pilot
I find it really fucking hard though to aim when I go at really high speed. And that's made harder with the fact the range on the weapons are so low that you only have a second or two to hit them before you zip past them. I'm trying to do all the things you say to do in the P40, but I think I'm just shit at doing it.
Depending on your initial speed, you can cut the throttle down to 50%. Meaning you'll maintain a high speed, but you wont go so fast you cant hit anything. It takes a bit of practice, and might be a bit hard when just using fiddies to do it the first few times. It's always hard in the beginning, but practice it, and you'll get a hang of it. And use ground belts with american fiddies.
Fun fact: The germans actually tried a variant of this on a proposed "Super Stuka".
All I see is the Super Tucano. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/Super_Tucano_at_URUBRA_I_exercise.jpg[/t] Just like everything else: South America takes designs from Germany.
Depending on your initial speed, you can cut the throttle down to 50%. Meaning you'll maintain a high speed, but you wont go so fast you cant hit anything.
I almost always turn the throttle off if I'm diving on someone. It's only if they're in a faster plane do I keep it on. The whole screen shaking (double over for AAA) when going too fast makes it hard for me to hit shit, so I like to take nice slow dives. It's also a left-over from playing the Ki-200, which is a game of conserving fuel. :v:
Well, it is after all a rocket with some guns strapped on to it :v:
Well here's the thing. It's got four minutes of fuel. Four. You will almost always end up using 1-2 minutes for initial climbing. So in reality, you have two minutes of fuel, but when you get altitude, it gets fun. Despite being a wooden wonder, it dives like a brick - so you keep the engine off and still maintain 700-800kph dives. You use the energy from the dive and a bit of fuel to bounce right back up to your old altitude. Rinse and repeat until you have about five seconds of fuel left - you use that as an emergency back-to-base reserve and gently glide back home. Then the bugged game will explode both your wings and possibly your engine on a good landing, netting you a 2+ minute repair time or a swift boot out. Oh, and ironically, it's really bad for hunting bombers. I can't compare it to the Me 163, but it's 30mms feel unreliable for bomber busting and all it takes is a stray fire or .50 round to put you out of the action. It's a rocket interceptor best left for fucking with fighters and making them really upset. In RB, this means clubbing people who are climbing and not paying attention, and in AB it means shitting on stupid jet players who think that they can climb 90 degrees straight up, in which you do the very same, wait for them to stall, and promptly come right back down with the glorious honor of using your very potent club against very impotent seals. It doesn't make a very good rammer, as I have learned. However, you can use it for whale tipping by slamming into bombers from underneath. That's worked a lot better for me. I harped on it a lot when I was new to it, but in the end I learned to love it. It's fun in Arcade because nothing can ever catch you except other Ki-200s/Me 163s. In Realistic, it's not fun fighting B-17s, but it is sure fun to shit on beercans and F-80Cs. I'd actually say I recommend it now. I haven't gotten to my 163 yet, but I felt like it was pretty good training for it. This turned into a "The Ki-200 is really fun and you should buy it" wank post. Sorry. :v:
I'd grind to the sushi rocket, but i'm not enough of a jaded acevet yet. :(
Anyone who wants to team up in both planes and tanks, for about an hour or two?
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/yjxYGNf.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/gxmUhc3.jpg[/img_thumb] The decal system in this is too much fun.
Oh look, it's a Ki-43-I, yawn.. [t]http://devblog.warthunder.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/shot_2014.07.07_17.43.07.jpg[/t] oh oh wait IT BEGINS [t]http://devblog.warthunder.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eehgchfa.jpg[/t] [t]http://devblog.warthunder.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/cjdcjahb.jpg[/t] [t]http://devblog.warthunder.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/djcjegjj.jpg[/t]
Also, all this talk about the P40 made me take it out for a spin again in RB. Outdived a 109, tore his wing off catched up to a P47 whom i forced (with a little help) into a stall, sat him on fire and watched him hurl into the ground. then I barely scratched a dumb 109 player who tried to outmaneuver me and doing these crazy loops to get away from me and some other guy. Got the kill for some reason. P40 stronk. No discussion.
IL-28 in the first screenshot you posted appears to have RATOs. Neat.
Why has it become so popular for pilots to fly as high as they can and to just wait there. They circle for almost the entire round until most of their team is gone or the enemy is. Then they swoop down and try to scavenge the remains. I've even seen them suicide straight into the ground when nearing a loss. WTF is the point? I understand the whole idea of scavenger tactics. Waiting at the threshold for when the enemy has begun to perish, then swooping in for the kill and meal. But in WT they just seem to miss the opportunities entirely. They go nearly the whole round with no kills or a few "hits" and only end up hurting their allies because it shorts the team on firepower. It's like they're too afraid to engage. So they'd rather wait at the edge and HOPE to get some easy kills. It's really making higher tier battles frustrating. Especially as a bomber/night fighter. You're like a fish in a barrel.
...Scratch their paint. Horrible!
oh god it's world of tanks all over again 80t+ metal behemoths cowering over one another's shoulders because there's a medium around the corner that might actually damage them.

I was the only person capping, despite the fact there were 6 other guys there. They all hid behind the walls because of one, one Stug. It's like the stupid people playing world of tanks finally heard about the tanks in War Thunder.

totally not a blatant rip off right
totally not a blatant rip off right
I approve. also I had a feeling that plane would be entertaining, and if you can hit people with THAT think how easy it's going to be to crack people with the turret on the IL-28.
So I broke Mach 1 (plus 300kph) in the 262 because I was dicking with the mission editor. Uploadin' a video now. :v: Also that Narwal video makes me want to get that 262 even more, now. [editline]8th July 2014[/editline]
totally not a blatant rip off right
Its ok guys he was "Inspired" by goons video so that means he can make a complete copy and it not be a bad thing [editline]9th July 2014[/editline]
Its ok guys he was "Inspired" by goons video so that means he can make a complete copy and it not be a bad thing
Who cares? Goon himself approves. It's not like it's for profit or fame. Oh god I used the Redline OST in a video about going fast, I totally ripped off this: [sp]I know it's different, but still. Why are you guys making a deal about it?[/sp]
Its ok guys he was "Inspired" by goons video so that means he can make a complete copy and it not be a bad thing [editline]9th July 2014[/editline]
holy shit who cares if it was funny, what the fuck is the problem?
3 kills in a Yak-15P because I wanted to frustrate myself to sleep. We lost anyways.
holy shit who cares if it was funny, what the fuck is the problem?
Because this is basically the new meta of youtube, everytime I see someone make a video thats pretty much an exact copy with the slightest of difference people just palm it off as "oh I was inspired by it" which makes it ok but if you didnt say that everyone loses it over it being a copy of another video. Make your own damn content

You might want to calm down and think of how important this really is to you. [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] Every goddamn time I advance a tier.
I'm working on a skin for the La-3 based off the real-life 9th BSF Squadron 1944. Obviously still a work in progress. I didn't bother actually changing the camo pattern because it's hard as fuck to keep all the detail intact. I'm probably going to replace the roundel with the ingame VVS decal once I unlock it.
Just discovered that the LaGG 3-66 is basically exactly what I'm going for. Nice. Well, at least now I'm intricately familiar with the texture for the LaGG 3-8 [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] I DIDN'T SPEND HOURS IN THE FLIGHT TESTER PRACTICING LANDING FOR NOTHING
