Are there any maps out there made specifically for the Nazis mod?
Nazi Auferstehung is a fantastic megawad. The levels are long, and the design is breathtaking.

[sp]I'm joking.[/sp]
So after playing through it, I think I can safely say that Wolfenstein: The New Order is the best shooter that I've played in years.
Speaking of non-doom games, are there any things I should install and/or know about for the original Quake? I just got it in the sale, so pardon me not knowing anything.

Use the Darkplaces source port, if your PC is pretty good you can turn on some awesome shadow effects that make the game really atmospheric.

I hope you like shotguns, because that's your starting weapon.

I think iD realized that nobody used the pistol in doom after they got the shotgun and just decided to not bother adding one to Quake for the same reason. :v:
I used the pistol, I think it's a a little more accurate than the chaingun, but I don't know for certain.

Dissolution of Eternity is a pretty good expansion.
Dissolution of Eternity is a pretty good expansion.
I felt that expansion was a little short, but it was fun killing everything with rockets and multi-rockets non-stop. I prefer Scourge Of Armagon expansion.
Doom's starting weapons suck. Which is why I'm so bound and determined to change them out with more effective options in any mod I make.
I used the pistol, I think it's a a little more accurate than the chaingun, but I don't know for certain.
When using sv_fastweapons 1 or 2 in ZDoom or any of the ZDoom derivatives, the pistol is not only more accurate than the chaingun but also fires faster. (Especially on sv_fastweapons 2.)

Opinion time.
Hexen 2 doesn't have as heavily expanded compilers as quake, so even with modified tools map limits are quite a bit lower, meaning I'd have to tone things like the above down drastically in terms of detail.
However, Hexen 2 saves the states of any levels you switch between. So I can either cut down the detail and make larger maps, or make them a little smaller but segment them with loading zones you can travel between, a la Half-Life. Only downside to this is Hexen 2's music system, like quake and any of its ports, doesn't resume song playback, so music will restart whenever you change levels.
Which do you guys think is a better way to handle it, Half-Life style loading with the music restart annoyance, or larger, but less detailed maps?
Rate agree for HL load zones, disagree for full maps
So I'm working on an Xdeath gibbing animation for the living armors in GMOTA.
I fucked up and didn't give the "gibs" the correct values.

MORPHBALL ACQUIRED
Hm. I am trying to replace some sprites (particularly Doomguy), so I opened up Slade, copied PLAY(A-D)1, replaced them with correctly offset .pngs, converted them to Doom graphical format, and saved. Now, when I try to play the PWAD through ZDoom it seems that no changes have been made. Any idea what I may have missed?

Might be neat to have enemies that morphball when they die and then try to do a final kamikaze run at the player

I guess make sure that you are running it without any other mods so nothing is overwriting it?

Are those using the spites for the lord of the land from dungeon keeper?
Holy God.
Anyone and I mean anyone who hasn't played Going Down yet is missing out. It's made by Cyriak (yes, that Cyriak) and is probably one of the most insane megawads I've played in a while. It's just... fucking incredible. Custom music, custom menu screen graphics, horrifying levels made with all of those linedef transforms you never used. It's brilliant.

pageking. That means I'm right.

I don't have any mods - just Doom and Doom2 IWADs.
Are those using the spites for the lord of the land from dungeon keeper?
I'm not sure. I snatched these sprites from a custom monster on realm667. Pinky demons were SUPPOSED to be replaced by lizard men but I couldn't find good sprites. So I settled for living armor enemies :v:

Also, console confirms that the PWAD is loaded, but the sprites are not replaced anyway.
EDIT: Fixed it. Finally noticed the S_START and S_END tags.

The thing that really gets me about Going Down is how most of the textures are completely stock, and yet he manages to create convincing and breathtaking environments that surpass so many other modern maps with their custom textures and ZDoom features.
The moment I stood in front of that giant Hell-tree, my jaw hit the floor.

you could nab something from hexen or heretic
afrits for lost souls?
(scaled down) iron lich for pain elemental?
ettin for pinky demon? melee-only cannon fodder replaced by melee-only cannon fodder
name some wads with craploads of enemies but still decent optimization

been playing Hell Reavealed 1 & 2 back and forth and getting tired of them
Are those using the spites for the lord of the land from dungeon keeper?
Yes. Yes they are. And that makes GMOTA even more awesome.
Did anyone else have a problem in Strife where you couldn't [sp]destroy the power crystal[/sp] despite how dead on their shot was until they turned on autoaim
Also, anyone who mods doom sure if there is anything special has to be done to make ASC scripts map-independent?
I love Quake. I just finished the first episode on Nightmare in an hour and it was a great thrill. I don't know what it is but the higher difficulties in Quake don't feel like fake difficulty to me.
Higher difficulties literally effect things like # of monsters and speed of their attacks, and damage changes are small so that's probably why
Playing around with something else as a side project of sorts.
