Does anyone know of a gameplay mod where everything dies relatively quickly, including you? My biggest problem with Doom is how bullet-spongy the later enemies can be.
I'm a little late to this but look for Burl_Tumd. It's a mod that pretends to be stupid when in reality it's well designed
whats so great about revenants that everyone likes them
geez
They're inside all of us and if we don't praise them, they'll get agitated and haymaker their way out.
Send help.
I want a mod where you have an agitated Revenant skeleton inside you.
If you don't kill fast stuff enough, he starts fighting his way out.
If you keep his bloodlust quelled, he's mostly passive sans occasional AAAAAAAAA taunts and the like.
If you get a great combo, he assists you with some shoulder-rockets or super haymaker punches.

There were 4 based on the original doom. I've read all four and they're amazingly awful.

I remember hearing that the first one was okay by itself, and the second one got a little weird with an explicitly Mormon sniper and a teenage hacker, and then the third just loses itself. [sp]The Demons are actually aliens are being controlled by a broccoli-like species called Freds, there's also friendly aliens trying to help humanity, the Freds get wiped out by ANOTHER alien race called Newbies, and eventually the entire plot actually relating to Doom just fades away for the sake of entirely new stuff that has nothing to do with Doom.[/sp]

Very few problems in the universe aren't solved by punching things repeatedly and loudly.

I bought all four of these off amazon about ten years ago.
I still wan a refund for the last two, cause seriously, what the fuck man.
[sp]THE GODDAMN ALIENS ARE CALLED FREDS, FUCK.[/sp] I mean, I can understand pumpkins for cacodemons, but shit dude.
Also dat ending doe. [sp] The main characters are stuck in an alien computer which they can brain hack.[/sp]
Also zombies smell like rotten [sp]lemons.[/sp]
I saved you guys $30. Go buy a burrito or something.

Oh god, the newbies. Also soul spheres are [sp] concentrated alien magic[/sp] or some such.
who the hell takes those books seriously
I think the fact that i didn't take them seriously is why i enjoyed them so much.
The first book is kind of fun to read and try to figure out which level he's running through. First book is good, second is alright, third and fourth are weird.
thankfully it was a used bookstore so I got it for like $2
I'm sorry to have kept so many folks waiting, but GMOTA V0.9.9 is here
There's a lot of new stuff, and you can now play it on Zandronum

:v: ....
:suicide:
I read the first book, it was pretty decent.
But holy shit, the second one was so bad that I couldn't even finish it.
In other Doom mod related news:
Axe Magic
[vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8380892/WEbms/axe%20jokes.webm[/vid]
BoomerAxe sprites are placeholder, and I gotta futz with their damage output and mana cost, but hey this is cool
Playing Strife: Veteran's Edition really makes me wonder why the Steam version of Doom still uses DOXBox. I know it's really easy to just download Zandronum, GZDoom, etc., but it would be really nice if we had a version of the game that had updated functionality right out the gate, as well as Steamworks and workshop support.
The Steam versions of Doom and Doom II should have used PrBoom or Chocolate Doom instead of DOSBox.
the protagonist in that novel is named Flynn "Fly" Taggart, it's so intentionally stereotypically manly that he might as well be named Beefman "Hamburger Helper" McSmokedbratwurst (He's of German descent but was of course born and raised -- where else -- in America.
whats so great about revenants that everyone likes them
geez
All right sit down for a moment and let me talk to you about why Revenants are so awesome.
What’s the coolest type of weapon out there? Explosives.
Revenants have infinite-ammo endless rocket launchers strapped to their shoulders. They don’t care about dying--they’re already dead. In fact, they flipped off death and came back as a skeleton, then strapped rocket launchers to themselves because they don’t have to care about the backblast anymore. What’s that? They’re the most dangerous FPS weapon for people to wield? If a Lost Soul so much as looks in my direction it’ll blow up in my face and gib me?
GIVE ME TWO, ASSHOLES.
They can fire Badass Rockets, which fly over and blow whatever up in the typical way that rockets work in FPSes, or they can fire Jackass Rockets, which act in no logical way and arc and spin around whatever victim they can find until they shove themselves right up the victim’s ass like the worst suppository Hell ever invented.
Just in case anyone is still standing as a final “fuck you” to the awesomeness of infinite-ammo explosives, Revenants have a nasty right hook that rivals the power of the Berserk pack, able to cleave straight through any aspiring space marine in about three good hits. And this is the same marine that can take fifty rockets, fireballs, claws, and whatever to his face and keep on trucking, so the Revenant is packing some serious muscle on that bone. He took some lessons from Mike Fucking Tyson himself.
In fact, when the battle’s going wrong for them, they still don’t give a shit. The Revenant is the monster with the highest pain chance--even just whapping your flimsy fist against the non-existent groin is going to elicit a reaction out of them. Despite that the Revenant has no more muscles, no more nerve endings, nothing that would logically elicit any sort of pain for them, it still reacts from your little ticklefist and plink-bullets. Now, I ask you, why is this? It can’t truly be pain, because they can’t possibly be in pain.
Let me answer what I just asked you (it was rhetorical) by saying the only reason anyone would ever act a certain way without truly feeling it: the fucker is mocking you. Oh, you’re hitting it, oh no! Oh, you’re shooting it, oh no! Oh no, you’re trying to splatter blood from my lifeless body! Excuse me while I lean back and laugh in that “UUWEEEHHH” voiceclip.
Even when they finally die, they don’t give any shits--they don’t have any death scream or rattle at all. They just flop back on the ground, their bones crumpling, without any cry or protest. And why SHOULD they care? They’ve died before, and came back perfectly fine. Hell, they didn’t even need an Archvile for it. Anyone else that protests are either pussies, or wimps, or both. Just put them back together and hook a backpack on it, and they’re good to go.
All of this comes together into one big, lean, mean, pimpin’, strappin’ badass of Hell, ready to kick ass until dinnertime--at which point it drinks your tears and eats your soul.
The only issue I have with expanding on this idea is that I don't think it's possible to define RGB color values through scripting,
There's an entry available in Actors called Translation, where you can take existing colors and replace them with other colors without needing to put in new .pngs.

By changing the translation of the actor, you can get a variety of different colors.
And you're not even limited to the Doom palette. With a little fancy voodoo, you can use any RGB color string available.
You're screwed with the actual weapons themselves, though. Sorry.
I have been thinking about making a variant on Smooth Doom which allows you to change the colors of the 3 forms of plasma ball independently of each other with a number of presets, done all through the options menu. For example, you could make your plasma rifle shoot out purple plasma balls, arachnotrons red plasma balls, and the BFG blue plasma balls. Or you could make the plasma gun shoot out orange plasma balls, the arachnotron black plasma balls, and the BFG cyan plasma balls.
Does this seem like a cool idea?
The only issue I have with expanding on this idea is that I don't think it's possible to define RGB color values through scripting, which means I will have to manually go in, recolor each frame of the plasma gun and each frame of the plasma balls 10-11 times depending on how many color presets I want, and then defining each as its own independent weapon and using a system similar to the Doom 64 alternate weapons to add each to the game. I really don't want to do that, but I just may. It would take soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long though. If anyone has any suggestions to speed that up, please for the love of god tell me. I am begging you all to stop me from doing more work than I have to.
I remember a wad from yeeeeaaarrrss ago that had differently coloured sprites for the plasamarifle and balls (even the 64 variant). Although it was only replacement graphics, not a menu option. Still it was pretty cool.
-massive boner post-
On top of all this. Let's not forget that revenant rockets are made of pure hatred. So they're actually just projecting how much they dislike you.
They also have the best walk cycle in the game
I don't mind Revenants at all.
Arch-Viles, though, they suck.
How about an enemy the combines the powers of both.
Revenants that fire Resurrection missiles.
on it, just you wait
Oh god. What have I done. I'm so sorry.
Unless you were already doing that, then I'm not sorry.
So I am making a map for HACX, the doom addon.
... Does anyone know how to make doors in Gzdoombuilder UDMF format?
Anybody who hates revenants needs to play Quake
I'll take homing rockets that loose tracking when you break LOS over exploding purple balls that manage to follow you around corners
what does zandronum have over skulltag?

Red Faction has a railgun that shoots through walls with an X-ray scope. It instakills virtually everything. Enemies would use the scope just as well as the player. You could survive 1 shot if you had full health and armor with like maybe 20 HP and no armor left.
Is there a reupload of Naraka? I wanna try that out now.
