GG Bethesda with your quick cash-in.
It's exactly how they advertised it to be. It's litterally Doom 3 with improved lighted, rendering, better controls and flash light mechanics.
And the removal of any modding support whatsoever...
Wait, is there an option to change the resolution?
Wait, is there an option to change the resolution?
yes
Couldn't mods do everything ID changed quite easily? I remember dling a mod that gave a couple weapons their own attached flashlight.
Couldn't mods do everything ID changed quite easily? You basically have very little graphical options, and the game is locked at a fucking ugly low-graphic level for today's PCs. You have to change the graphics in the .ini files of the game. Then, the whole mod option at the main menu was completely removed (Because XB360 and PS3 can't really have mods) So basically, you should avoid and buy the complete ID pack instead, you're missing out on the Lost levels, but you get Final Doom and some DLC for the two first games. Plus, you get Doom 3's mods that are simply amazing. Also, the Doom 1 and Doom 2 games are stuck within Doom 3's engine, so you can't just mod those either.
I knew it was too good to be true.

I really only got this for ROE, but I notice the shadows look cleaner, and I wanted something Doom on my desk, as I own Doom 1/2/Final digitally, so there's nothing cool to stick on my desk,
The Previously X-Box only Chapter included in the XBLA Doom 2, "No Rest for the Living" is in the BFG edition. If you want to run it in your favourite source port, just go into the BFG folder, find the 'nerve.wad' in 'Base/Wads' folder and just move it over and run it as a mod for Doom 2. It doesn't include the right music tracks though. Its a great chapter, I recommend it.
Just to clarify a sort of incorrect point that's being spread around: a lot of people are saying the only visual difference in the BFG Edition is the brighter lighting with nothing done to the textures. However, that's not true. Many textures have been modified in this re-release, apparently in higher-resolution to boot. Unfortunately, I wouldn't say these new textures are improvements over the originals. In fact, I'd say they have quite the opposite effect. I took some comparison shots between the classic textures and BFG's new versions: [thumb]http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/8623/betrugercd.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/8224/betrugerbfg.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6579/swanncd.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/6955/swannbfg.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/9038/2012101600010.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8051/kellybfg.jpg[/thumb] I don't understand what they did to Sergeant Kelly. I really don't. Also, you can see how dramatic an effect the lower FOV has.
The new Betruger looks cool, the new Kelly looks like he is younger.
He looks less Matrix. Hilarious how in this day and age ID software is making console ports.
The Previously X-Box only Chapter included in the XBLA Doom 2, "No Rest for the Living" is in the BFG edition.
There's actually been an unofficial port of that floating around the internet since a month or so after it came out. Someone on the Gamefaqs forums ported it over.
Any Xbox/PS3 users have any feedback on BFG edition? Are the new levels any good?
For the BFG edition of Doom 2, Instead of making specials versions for countries that outlaw Nazi Symbolism they censored every version. They even changed the music and replaced the SS troopers with Zombiemen. Also since the Doom 1 and 2 on the PC version are just the console versions, the Crosses on the Medkits have been replaced with Pills because of that demand the Red Cross Association made. Wow, what a load of shit. That makes those tribute levels pointless almost. What's next, Wolfenstein 3D Console re-release where the game isn't even about WW2 anymore?
Wow, what a load of shit. That makes those tribute levels pointless almost. All they did was change the Medkit crosses to Pills. IIRC the original German release of Doom 2 on PC didn't have the secret levels at all. I might be wrong.
That's pretty lame. I might pick up the BFG edition later in the year when it goes on sale so I have a copy on Steam, but other than that I think I'll stick with a modded Doom 3. Doom 3 with the Sikkmod or Perfected Doom 3 looks better anyway.
I don't know how late this is but has anyone tried OBLIGE yet? It generates random rooms and you can set how big the map is and what's in it. Here's the link: http://oblige.sourceforge.net/

Here's the link: http://oblige.sourceforge.net/
Oblige is fun but at the higher monster amount settings it's pretty much required that you edit the wad to start you with a spreadrune (if using Skulltag/Zandronum), massive ammo capacities, and faster firing rates. At least for ultraviolence. Also on wads with that many monster I highly recommend avoiding brutal doom. I had a wad with 7600 monsters in the first level and while it ran just fine without brutal doom, with brutal doom it ran less than 2fps.
Also, you can see how dramatic an effect the lower FOV has.
you can change it in the cfg's
you can change it in the cfg's
You're not supposed to reach around in CFGs files when you want to change options in a game. Especially when it's coming from ID software, and the original Doom 3 had a lot of graphical options to begin with.
Gotta hand it to ID. Just when you think they can't get any worse, they go and fuck up a re-release. Preview of Doom 4's graphics options:
Graphics - On/Off 3D mode - On/Off
Oblige maps are cool at first, but after a couple maps you usually start to see the patterns from the randomization. Enemy/item placement can look kind of weird too, like big piles of medkits. I might use it for a playthrough with Hideous Destructor though, a nice low monster count with a lot of cover is perfect for it.

No one needs low settings for this game, the system requirements are higher than the original Doom 3, and none of Doom 3's minimum specs would be able to run this game
Reminds me of this video.
Graphics - On/Off
Graphics off is the best way to play. Especially with an improved health limit and the spreadrune and edited weapons I mentioned earlier. Or god mode, unlimited ammo, and sv_fastweapons 2 in Skulltag.
IIRC the original German release of Doom 2 on PC didn't have the secret levels at all. I might be wrong.
That is right. My german version doesn't have the two secret levels. Later releases (on the nintendo gba as example) contain a censored version of both levels. And I just tried Oblige. Pretty fun, but the rooms it generates can be scary. First room were about 200 zombieman. The next big room had around 200-300 revenants :suicide:
