Also people should stop going "But this isn't like DOOM 1/2, my nostalgia, this sucks" kind of reaction. If you just want a DOOM 1/2 then go play the original ones, this is a reboot, things are going to look different because a)with today's technology we can have a bunch of new or remake ideas, they can explore even more further and b) is meant to keep essence of the original with some originality. Just like Shadow Warrior did
So I wonder if they're going to have a silly excuse for the Chainsaw like the 'Shipping error' in Doom 3
Considering Doom was constrained by an 8-bit color palette, it's not surprising you can find areas that lack color. Literally every pixel that can possibly be displayed by the game in normal circumstances is summed up by this image (and there are a few unused colors too!).
You'll note that I did not say Doom 4 lacked saturation, however. I said it lacked color variety. Two decades later, I do not believe Doom 4 would be limited by palette constraints, but nonetheless, here's a fun game to try: Find any image from any of the available Doom 4 footage that isn't totally bathed in orange/yellow or green. I'll give you a freebie: the lighting from the Plasma Rifle kind of makes the area look blue for a brief moment. But only a moment, sadly.
So you're tellin us that it's a negative that Doom has a deliberate unified pallet?
Well, it's their fucking job to make sure that their footage shows the best side of the game and builds up hype. If they fail to do that then in what way is it wrong for us to grill them?
Technically, it's their job to make a game and then show what they've done. They can do that by blasting through it like a real playthrough, or push the movement stick at 25% so people can soak the details in. It's a tough choice, but demo-ers always, ALWAYS choose the latter. Why the fuck are you surprised they did it here? When the fuck have you seen an E3 demo where the player doesn't move at a low speed and slowly sweep the camera around the environment? What is hype afterall if not shit that's generated BY the hyped? People are excited. You're expressing that you're offended because you're not? lmfao.
As you can see by the fact that people don't agree on the subject, it didn't universally fail.
The one weapon in the weapon wheel that they didn't show did not look at all like the BFG though, and when they switched to the BFG, the weapon icon didn't change.
I might be wrong, but I think i'm probably right in saying that it's a powerup.
I think the appearance of the BFG in that trailer wasn't "real"
It was just a triggered animation specifically for the demo. It probably wasn't in the inventory.
So I wonder if they're going to have a silly excuse for the Chainsaw like the 'Shipping error' in Doom 3
What do you mean by that? Also the chainsaw looks pretty ok, i understand the issue of being taking long executions but well chainsaw though bodies, at least from what i know, is not simple and quick just like in L4D2 and idk if you guys noticed but the "power-up" for the chainsaw was Super Chainsaw, which i believe it might make things go just like how people want: cutting a butter body
Crossing my fingers for the double headed chainsaw
I really hoped for some information about the Beta though.
What do you mean by that?
In doom 3 IIRC, there was a room full of boxes of Chainsaws, a PDA says there was a shipping error.

Oh, i need to replay DOOM 3. But first i need to fix it
I feel like I hold an unpopular opinion here: This Doom looks really fun, and I think they hit the nail on the head as far as sticking to the original, but giving it a touch of modern gaming. The atmosphere and artistic choices(while admittedly, nothing too special) does remind me of the original game and that's all I wanted. I couldn't really imagine a better modern Doom game.
Rewatched the Hell Gameplay. I completely missed that Spectre the first time through. I though he was just shooting at the wall for some dumb reason.

I don't think there are unpopular opinions about this game. It looks split down the middle, which was to be expected.
I mean it's been anticipated so long and the franchise itself means so many different things to different people that it's kinda destined to be polarizing as fuck.
I'm surprised at how many people honestly believe that their own interpretation of a vague world in an old game full of shit that's open to interpretation should be exclusively catered to. Actually, I'm not surprised. I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed that self awareness is in such short supply. No one allows themselves to be humbled by anything. The little details they imagined up over the course of 21 years HAVE to be the center of focus in this game!
...and why isn't Hell red btw? Green!? Come on!

If anything it's a love letter to the original game, just like doom 3 was. Doom 3 tried a more realistic approach to the franchise and it was a huge success despite being more of a horror game and less of a bloodbath shootemup
The unfortunate thing is that you can't modernize classic FPS games without completely altering everything about them. Everyone has nostalgia bombs about all of these old games that were hindered by such extreme limitations of their time that any kind of remake is just an insult. I think it's good that they're just rebooting the whole thing instead of calling it a sequel, although myself I'd much rather see the player chewing through hundreds of enemies and not just a couple at a time
...and why isn't Hell red btw? Green!? Come on!
it's yellow, caused by sulfur, a volcanic substance. because hell
...or it's a scripted animation to end the E3 demo, and the HUD didn't change because the player was still "holding" their previous weapon.
It's not impossible for the BFG to be restricted to a single fight ala the mecha in The New Order, but let's not start screaming and punching our own genitals until the weapon's completely absent from the multiplayer beta, hmm?
But you can see that there's a set 8 slots in the inventory. If you get the BFG as an actual weapon, it'll be a replacement to another weapon for one or two maps, which I really don't think would be great.
^unless the selections branch, like how HL2's weapons are categorized horizontally by "type" and then the actual weapons drop down.
...and why isn't Hell red btw? Green!? Come on!
Because red hell is fucking boring and old hat. There's so much more you can do with a location like Hell.
If I have a hard time telling the difference between the hell in Doom and the hell in Bill and Tedd's Bogus Journey, there's a problem.
Honestly, there's so much negative rep, but while it does look a bit bland? It also looks far more fun than most shooters nowadays, like a sister game to Wolfenstein: The New Order.
It'll be easier to judge when we see real gameplay and not an awful run-of-the-mill E3 presentation.
Having someone sprintfuck demons by forcing them to provide oral services to twelve gauge at cheeath speeds might have not made a good E3 trailer to show off the engine or game.
Weren't they trying to move away from the 'classic' demonic imagery in 3? Something about separating it from both the originals due to the storyline change and to avoid outcry from the Christian community like the first one got? I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading something about that many years ago.
I liked the Doom 3 monsters. A lot of them felt more like Doom 64's monsters. Doom's monster design looks pretty goofy today.
I'm surprised people are letting themselves get hyped though. If the last 5 years of video game releases have taught us anything it's that it's better to remain cautious and keep your expectations low so you can be pleasantly surprised. It's like all the poor bastards that are putting Fallout 4 on a pedestal when we all know Bethesda is going to screw it up somehow.
I'm kinda interested in seeing what kind of new demons we could get.

Not particularly impressed by the game play trailer to be honest. This really doesn't look anywhere near as good as what MachineGames did with Wolfenstein The New Order. I thought this game had a mountain to climb and it looks like its struggling already.
The New Order wasn't generating much hype before it came out. In fact, people were talking shit.

Doom 3 had way more demonic imagery than the classic games.

I remember on FP somebody was playing a leak or something and doing a stealth segment where the AI just stabs you and everybody was like "wow lol this shit is DNF 2"
Yeah, everyone was looking at TNO as a laughing stock. Most people I know still go "wait wasn't that shit?" if I ever bring it up.
People are always extremely quick to judge
and its a bad thing because?
The only thing I hated about TNO is the dumbass AI in some of the stealth segments.

They don't really look like that, though. If they had that extra detail they'd definitely look better, I agree.
