The way I see it is that executions in Doom are gonna be really similar to Serious Sam 3's. You can do them, but most of the time you really shouldn't. It confuses me when people assume there's no agency at all in the presence of a feature like an execution system.
From the looks of things, the main source of HP and ammo is from the executions though, and it looks like you carry little ammo at any given time, 20 shells isn't a whole lot to work with.
Executions don't seem to have an effect on how much/ what gets dropped.
Yeah, they do all that work to try and make it look "better" and it always ends up selling their game short and making it look worse. Give me 5 minutes of actual, regular gameplay and I'll take that over 30 minutes of scripted stuff.
That would be nice for us already initiated into the world of twitch shooters and Doom itself, but that's not what everyone in the crowd this was presented to is. They had to take that into account.
Also thank fuck there doesn't seem to be any bullshit hitscan enemies.
Honestly at first I had mixed thoughts but the more I rewatch and analyze the trailers the more I like.
Except for the shotty. It looks like an evolution of the Doom 3 shotgun, and it does look a tad better to me, but not by much - I never liked the D3 shotty shape.
Thank god they went full out classic with the SSG - it even has the same firing/reload speed as Doom 2.
EDIT:
But whatever, let's just step back and take a moment to appreciate the fact that we got what seems to be a surprisingly robust ingame editor.
That's something that I had fully expected to never be given that Wolfenstein has nothing either and Carmack is gone. And from the looks of it you could probably remake earlier dooms in it if you wanted to.
I loved the sound, I was just comparing them with how fast they shoot/reload and how it looks
And maybe it's just because the stream volume was too low but the Plasma Rifle needs a better sound. Right now it's too "pew", it needs to be "boing".
Speaking of shotgun sounds, it sounds like the SSG sound is built on the same stock sound that the Halo 4/ 5 shotty sound uses. Halo 4's art direction was done by Kenneth Scott, who did AD on Doom 3. The Halo 4 and Doom 4 shotguns look really similar.
Eh.. that was it. That's all I had to say.
After watching it again I just realized that before I completely missed the fact that they showed off proper monster infighting in the doom snapmap trailer
After watching it again I just realized that before I completely missed the fact that they showed off proper monster infighting in the doom snapmap trailer
To be honest, considering that most monsters seemed to have reaction capacity of a bar drunkard at their worst time, I feel that they couldn't have showed much.

It would probably go a lot better with Slayer and the slower beginning parts cut out.
i'd be impressed if they provided mod tools. the game is a lot like the new order in the sense that you get a full campaign or whatever, yet it only gives you maybe thirty dollars worth of content. there's no way the game can justify a sixty dollar price tag unless it really stands out with an expanse of content or at least the ability to create content
rage was went from being a sixty dollar game to a bargain bin game in about three months. i was working retail when it happened. TNO was pretty much the same way. three strikes and you're out
TNO sold way way more than RAGE did, so saying it was a "strike" is incredibly inaccurate.
Precisely.
Erik even said as much.
I just wish the supershotgun had a bit more recoil.
I want to have my arm torn apart after firing it
I just wish the supershotgun had a bit more recoil.

Do it like BF4, one in ten thousand chance for the SSG to recoil back and smack Doomguy in the face.
I'm really hyped for the game, but I can't help but notice how game in current state... lacks a punch, if I can put it like that.
Plasma rifle does feel like a toy weapon that shoots plastic balls instead of superheated ionized balls of gas! It just doesn't have the percieved impact of the projectile. I think it should burn, scorch and fizzle enemies. Not to a crisp, but it should leave a mark for sure.
There aren't nearly enough blood particles for gory dismemberments in the trailer, sometimes barely any, not even enough to mask the exact moment when additional gib models pop in!
Moreover, blood splatters from enemies/gibs are really small and bland and are nowhere near that gory gorgeous goodness put in by level designer. They're too clean to believe that yes, you did indeed splatter that demon all over that wall with supershotgun of yours!
I really hope there will be abundance of finisher animations so they don't get repetitive, as I clearly could see repetition in trailer.
Chainsaw being worst offender, with those vertical/hand slices, there's little to no variation! Why not have impaling animation, horizontal bisection, or if you're absolutely desperate, a vertical-groin-to-head bisection with mandatory priceless face of mook being executed?
But other than that, game looks damn awesome, will definetely map for that!
If they add more enemies, give the weapons a bit more kick and downplay the executions it could be interesting. It's obvious the gameplay was slowed down a bit due to playing with a gamepad and for the sake of the presentation but if the enemy count is that low in the final game then it may become quite boring rather fast.
We'll have to wait and see but so far this looks quite mild especially compared to the blast that was fallout 4.
Please bring back arachnotrons.

This was a doom3 concept art, looked cool
TNO was amazing. Old Blood was amazing.
This game will probably follow in its path.

TNO was made by a Swedish studio working under Bethesda, not by ID
I was watching the snapmap video again and I noticed that the HUD and crosshairs looked more polished than the other videos, so I guessing that's the lasted build.

Not the same devs, and TNO/TOB weren't made by a team that had to deal with horrible management and constant reboots for several years.
After having watched Bethesda's presentation, since thy uploaded it to Youtube, I think the colors are less of an issue than I previously did going just on those screenshots. I do think it could still do with being a bit more colorful but it's not as bland as it seemed. I actually think so many of the demons looking similar and acting similar is a bigger issue. There were several demons in the video I had trouble telling apart. There were normal imps, what appeared to be bigger imps that didn't jump around like the normal imps and were slower, then there were what looked to be imps wearing some sort of technology that had orange lights in a sort of chevron pattern on their back. All of these acted and looked fairly similar so I couldn't tell what the difference between them all was.
I do like the ones that are clearly more unique than those though. The revenants seem good, the caodemons look great in comparison to the Doom 3 ones, and what I'm assuming was a mancubus was quite decent too. (Also what I'm assuming to be a cyberdemon at the end.)
Though I'm not really a fan of the hud personally. It's too much of a generic minimalist hud. Then I'm really not a fan of minimalist huds in the first place. Also the plasma rifle was way too quiet. Though that's better than how loud and obnoxious it was in the originals, lol.

I was thinking about using Slayer, but the guitar riff from the chorus of "No Remorse" was used for the original E1M1 music. I figured it be a little more fitting.
So whens the alpha
I have a pass

They all look sexy but from preview they look way too noisy.

The only thing that doesn't look over-designed is the SSG. Everything else screams "How much can we throw onto this?"
Literally the only thing that resembles the original cyber-demon is it has an attached weapon.
"the only thing that resembles" wait wait wait hold the fucking phone
Did you not see those cacodemons?
Did you not see that fucking mancubus?
"literally" Jesus fucking christ
I was actually surprised as to how un-noisy they look :s
Fuckin hell there's no pleasing you guys huh?
